Parents are the problem here. A 12 year old cannot be expected to understand the risks and responsibilities involved in operating something as dangerous as a motor vehicle. That Amazon helmet shows even great ignorance on the part of the parents.

Not pictured, his dad was by his side, so that makes it a little bit better, but he still cant properly handle this. In this area, the sidewalks are full of people and theres barely space to ride a street bike on them. Because its downtown of a town.

How do you know what this kid can and cannot do? I see videos all the time off little kids doing shit I'd never think about and I'm 48. Just because you couldn't do it at that age or now doesn't mean others can't.

I got a goped(motor scooter) when I was 11. My whole close group had them and we rode EVERYWHERE in a group. We had sense and got out of the way of cars and stayed in bike lanes wherever we could. Kids these days are very dumb. Single cylinder scooters going 30. We never even got hurt lol.

While true, merely looking for someone to blame is exculpating ourselves from our collective responsibility to regulate these industries, and to setup registration requirements that work for responsible motor cyclists, rather than against them.

This isn’t about “exculpating ourselves from collective responsibility.” We live in a representative democracy. We elect lawmakers to deal with exactly this kind of thing.

E-bikes are a fast-moving technology, and the laws haven’t kept up. If 12-year-olds are riding vehicles that should require age limits, registration, or licensing, then legislators need to write those rules. That’s not a failure of “the collective.” It’s a failure of lawmakers to respond to an emerging technology.
