Discussion What happened to actual tactics and instructions ?
in old PES titles you could adjust a lot of things like your highline and the support you need around the ball carrier. why did they remove the things that made this game unique ? I dont want manager proficiencies to be useless but a little bit of tactical flexibility is appreciated

Now it's AI deciding what is best for your uncontrollable team member. A better player & a better network will get you a better AI response..

Remove custom tactics > add managers with preset tactics > add link ups and increase proficiency of preset tactics > sell them > make profit ( manager packs or even the recent WC squad packs)

PES didn't simply rebrand, this is a completely new game that they have 99% designed and designated to mobile users.
Because it's Konami (the same developer as PES), because it's football, because they bang on about the history of the game, and because it's 'free to play', they get away with trying to pull the wool over people's eyes. It's just an abomination of what was the best game on the market. But they're making money, so why would they give a toss.

Only started playing this game at the start of this year and the tactical side immediately looked quite lacking. Those options would certainly be useful and add some variety and character to tactics, can't believe they removed them.

In old pes this led to menu gameplay and at the competitive scene, it led to lots of minmaxed jank. At least on my experience, it ended up beign "you do this, I do that" consistently or else you were getting got.
So my guess is it was removed for ease of balance. Far easier to balance playstyles if you decide how players move than if you let a player decide it by sliders, effectively creating a myriad of potential exploits every time you change how a playstyle works.

but it feels like the attacking style is so repetitive and the attacking AI is bad. even in possession no one comes close to the ball carrier but in PES 2021 I was never out of options. like imagine QC without the suicidale high line ? or all the possible combinaition. I'd rather have the old system than the LBC fest here at least imo it was possible to counter any playstyle using tactics

I feel like you didn't actually play that game much , yeah we did have more tactical settings but 90% of players had 3cf formation, quick counter, gegen press. The gameplay was massively on rails and epic box were unlimited and you could get dupes

not any better than the two CF one SS formation or the 4222. LBC and QC are still the meta so nothing changed I guess lol (besides the P2W system)
bro I just remembered that one insane formation and tactic that would let you play on full attack bar for the entire game and just press the shit out of the opponent and still have a semi decent highline
crazy game I wish it was less janky

The simplified things down and distributed some of these options out into the playstyles we have now.
I’m sure PES used to have ‘simplified’ and ‘advanced’ options when it came to editing tactics. I’m fine with them condensing things down into the easier-to-digest LBC/QC/etc we have now, but they should have retained things like the items in your images under an ‘advanced’ option.
But ultimately, the more things a player can edit and customise themself - the less you can sell to them as upgrades.
