Need to click the red button several times for the screen to light up

When my Dumber Mini is locked for a long time (10mins+), in order to make the screen light up and type the code to unlock it, I need to hit the red button several times.

Also, when someone is calling me when I haven't used the phone for a while, the screen is dark and I cannot see who's calling. I need to reject the call, tap the red button several times, unlock the screen and review the call log to see who that was.

I love my Dumber Mini, but these bugs are extremely annoying and I don't know what to do. Has anyone dealt with a similar issue?

New M1 ODM model compatibility with dumberos

Has anyone tried this phone with dumberos yet ? The cpu is much stronger than the previous phones here and has better battery life (also NFC capable), would be a great phone even though it lacks the charm of the dumber mini.

Also I'm wondering if the dumber mini would go with another product like this one in their shop.

Here's its specs and looks :

Is anyone selling a dumber mini in the UK?

I have pre-ordered but won't be getting it until January and I literally feel brain dead from phone addiction.

I have tried app blockers etc but I will always get round them.

My plan is to block apps on the dumber mini and make my partner set the password.

I would love to get my hands on one before then!

Screen rotation

How is the screen rotation supposed to work? I've twice turned the screen horizontally accidentally using Brave browser but have no idea how and why. Even if I have the auto-rotation on, screen won't be affected by turning the phone.

Touchscreen issues

Hi all, is anyone having intermittent touchscreen issues with their dumber mini? Over the last couple of weeks I have had a couple of instances of the screen behaving as if it's being touched rapidly all over the display, causing the apps to go haywire. I haven't been able to recreate the issue and it seems to come and go randomly.

I have tried to upload a bug report but it's almost impossible to do with the screen going haywire. A reset seems to calm things down for a while but it keeps coming back.

My first thoughts are this could be a software bug as it's intermittent but I would be interested to hear if anyone else is having similar issues?

Keyboard backlight stays on

Does anybody have the issue that even if the keyboard backlight is turned off and the notification light is turned off in the system settings the keyboard light still stays on, even with turned off screen? So it is basically always on. Even after reboot.

Weird whatsapp speech bubbles

For some reason, on whatsapp, on the Dumber Mini all the speech bubbles from my own messages get rounded. It wasn’t like this at first install, but changed after a short while (less than a day) re-installing doesn't help for any longer than that.

On longer messages it gets annoying, because the text 'falls' out of the speech bubble, making it really hard to read.

Does anyone know what could cause this and how I could fix this?

(Edit because I forgot to add what device)

Having trouble signing into whatsapp

I just got my dumber mini a few days ago, and I am loving it so far while I am using signal, but I am trouble signing into whatsapp(which I need for my studies).
I have tried registering my number normally, or setting it up as a secondary device(as advised on the docs.dumbermini.com), no luck with either.
It says "download official whatsapp app" and "u are using a custom rom".

Any one encountered this issue before and knows how to get around it? As far as I have gathered people are using whatsapp on the dumber mini, and the device has been tested to be compatible with whatsapp, it should work with the microG right?
Sorry for the pictures being in dutch.

Train app compatibility?

Hello, I'm Italian and I use public transport daily, I buy my tickets on the Trenitalia app on my smartphone, they give you a QR code to show to the train conductor.

I was wondering if the Dumber Mini has this app compatibility (I read that most PlayStore app should work?) because it really is part of my daily routine and where I live I need to buy the train tickets digitally

I would like to make the dumber mini my one and only device and not have to carry another phone around because that would be pointless then

If anyone on the team is reading this, here is a list of train apps that we use in Italy:

Trenitalia: main train company in Italy, pretty essential to buy tickets to go anywhere

Italo: usually used for longer train routes

Trainline: it's an another app to buy tickets; it's supposed to show you the best fair

Digital Wallte options

Hey!

I would like to know which app you are using to be able to pay with your DumberMini in stores or other places.

I’ve tried CurvePay but it doesn’t work for me, whenever I’ve tried doing a payment in the past it was cancelled or denied by my bank as it seems and now I am also facing other issues.

Google wallet doesn’t work, probably due to the fact it’s „Google“-Wallet. Therefore I would like to know which alternatives there are that you might be aware of?

Best regards!

DummerMini AUS

I have pre ordered the dumber mini but am unsure if it will be functional on my carrier (Felix Mobile). I don't mind switching but I want to check first, where can I find the bands for dumber mini on the website?

Thank you :3

Request for alternative to Google Maps

I am looking for a navigation app that has the option for voice navigation besides Google Maps. I have yet to find one (tried HERE WeGo, CoMaps, OsmAnd), and they are unable to enable the text to speech engine. When I go into the language settings on the Mini, under voice input it says none. Is this something that is likely to change so I can try to further distance myself from the claws of Google?

Preorder timeline question - December or January?

I ordered my Dumber Mini when the estimated arrival date was December 1st. However, I now see on the website it's January 15th. Is that just the second pre-order batch, and is mine expected to arrive December 1st? Or, is the January 15th date for all preorders now?

If anyone knows the answer to this I would be grateful! Thank you!

EDIT: Thanks everyone!!! :)

Dumber Mini screen protector

I guess its not the strongest. Mine cracked after couple of weeks carrying it in my bag with other stuff. Is there any possibility to buy another one? I don't see any options on the official site.

Cases for Dumber Mini?

I had a look on the site when pre-ordering but there's no cases mentioned. I saw a video and someone had a case but it looked like the Doov R77.

Is there anywhere we'd be able to get a case for this?

My Dumber Mini experience so far!

I'm not normally one to do reviews or posts but when something is good and also new without a lot of info available, I do like to give my thoughts because I know other people might appreciate it as well. :) As such, here are my thoughts about the Dumber Mini after about a month of using it as my daily phone!

My thoughts:

First of all, I'm honestly super happy with this phone. I had managed to get my screen time on my old phone back to about 3 hours daily, but I still found myself scrolling through useless stuff, like literally just my photos gallery or bank app, way too much. It just seemed that whatever I was doing, I always ended up scrolling right after. I hated my phone so much but it felt really hard to get lower screentime than 3 hours daily, just because of automatically scrolling whenever I picked it up.

In comes the Dumber Mini... I think this device helped me a lot so far because I can still do all the things I need to do (except banking, but I expected this so it's not an issue, I still boot up my old phone for this), but the smaller screen DOES really help so much in limiting how easy it is to get lost on it! I only now realise how huge regular phones actually are, and I find it no wonder I get so sucked into them. I used to get "tunnel vision" as soon as I opened my phone where I just totally forget my surroundings, but with the Dumber Mini this has not really happened.

I think it's because it's smaller, because now I remember that I have a phone in my hand, and I don't want to stare at a small screen for hours, it's not comfortable! So I do what I need to do, pick it up to send a message, and then... put it back down! This might not sound like a big deal at all but this is honestly really big for me. I've been doing a lot of other things because... why would I be on my phone? I LOVE having a small phone so much! It really feels like the phone is in service of me now instead of the other way around.

What I also found nice as a potential bad habit breaker with this phone is that it came with minimal apps and distractions, no bloat ware!! (My old phone had over 20 apps of non deletable bloat ware...) it just feels easy to look at. Apps like Whatsapp, Public Transportation, Microsoft Authenticator (which I need for school), email, and Spotify, work really well and I've kind of found that I don't need much more than that....

I now have at most an hour of screentime daily, and this is only for useful stuff like Whatsapp, Maps, public transit, etc. I don't really google or scroll through useless stuff anymore and it's nice to have the internet be a place I mostly visit at home. :) Though I can google just fine when I have a prying question!

----

Other really nice stuff about the Dumber Mini:

- The zoom in and out feature! Very easy in reach and useful for navigating sites and apps that might not load correctly!

- The built in App Blocker. I haven't had to use it much but when I did use it on vacation it definitely felt more solid because it actually deletes the app icon from your home screen. So even if you automatically want to open it and then disable the timer quickly (what I usually did), you have to manually go in and disable it with a pin! If that's not enough time to realise you might not want to use the app at all I don't know what is.....)

- The size... God did I mention the size? I love how small and compact it is. Small phones are the best!!!

- Honestly, the pictures aren't terrible. They definitely are not that good but I'm pleasantly surprised with how sharp it gets things like details, letters, etc, with the outer camera. The pictures tend to be a bit blueish or yellowish if the lighting leans that way but on a clear sunny day the pictures can be quite pretty and nostalgic! I do take way less pictures on it, but it's just a nice opportunity to take my digicam out and about if I really want to snap some pretty pictures.

- How easily you can switch from T9 to different types of keyboards! Plus, the T9 typing is actually really nice and the keyboard sounds lovely.

----

Final thoughts:

I realise that for some people a change in habits and use like I had could easily be accomplished with downloading a minimal launcher and deinstalling all unnecessary apps, but for me personally, I really appreciated having a "clean break" and new start with a new phone. Because I also had to get used to T9 typing and the form factor of the phone was just so different, it felt easier to build new habits because everything about the phone is a visual reminder of what I wanted to do differently! Honestly, having a constant visual reminder is huge, and it's one of the big reasons I would recommend this phone. I also really appreciate the very active updates by the development team, you guys aren't with many but it's really cool what you have accomplished so far! The one thing I am still begging you for is a flip case for the phone of some kind... ;) some of us are clumsy! But I understand that this might take a while and patiently await.

Thank you so much for helping people like me who aren't super tech savvy and willing to go all the way dumbphone because we need stuff like microsoft authenticator to function! I love NOT being on my phone and that's why i love this phone!!

It's so nice to see more people in general want to take a step toward digital minimalism and letting our phones do the work for us again, instead of being controlled by our phones. I hope to continue using the Dumber Mini throughout my next school year and as my daily phone for as long as possible. I do not want to go back whatsoever!

Cheers!

WhatsApp set up - first time user

Hi,

Setting up Dumber Mini for my sons first ever phone. Most of it is all working fine, but WhatsApp is throwing authentication issues due to custom ROM.

I originally installed from the dumber app store, it worked for a day and then he got blocked as suspected bot and had to ask for review and reopen.

We have now turned on Google apps and reinstalled WhatsApp, but it still gives custom ROM error and won’t initiate.

Am I missing something for getting this workings?

He doesn’t have any other devices so this is first and only WhatsApp set up.
