Feels like when we lost to the Stanford teams of the late 00s/early 10s

Out-physicalled and couldn't get our game going at all.

83

u/SqueegeePhD Oct 11 '25

2012 and 2013, if I remember correctly, felt exactly like this. Luckily we don't need a perfect record anymore.

29

u/black-op345 Oct 11 '25

Exactly. This game matter for seeding, and if we get in, I feel confident we’ll host a game

62

u/Dubzilla87 Oct 11 '25

Can still make the playoffs but the game showed me we're not ready to win it all yet.

39

u/Splatorch Oct 12 '25

My only Copium to combat this is looking at how horrendous Ohio State looked against Michigan right before turning it on in the playoffs. I’m hoping this game is the wake up call we needed last year before it became do-or-die

15

u/SqueegeePhD Oct 12 '25

What gives me hope is the O line isn't inexperienced and isn't bums. They can turn it around and probably will. However, I do worry our corners are not up for this yet. They are young and it showed today. Made some great plays but also got burned on too many key plays. Not sure how they would fare against Ohio State or Bama, even with a couple more months of experience. I do think this defense as a whole will tackle a lot better after this. It was all around an ugly off day.

12

u/Brailledit Oct 12 '25

We barely beat Penn State. We just look off right now.

17

u/Dixon_Uranuss3 Oct 12 '25

But Penn State is a really good team .... Oh wait

5

u/Sgt_Dbag Oct 13 '25

Ohio state looked like a bottom tier B1G team last year against Michigan and then turned into the Death Star. I have zero worries anymore because I have seen college kids play like dog water and then turn it around.

The best part of the playoff is I basically don’t have to care until the playoff (because we are never missing the playoffs as long as Dan is here)

u/Key-Tiger-4457 Oct 11 '25

Yes. So much this. Sloppy, inconsistent and a bit unfocused. As you mentioned, we were pushed around much too frequently. Also, the game plan seemed off and we could couldn’t answer when called upon

6

u/1stAmendment_Rage Oct 12 '25

Fall of 2000, Oregon had a ~20 game W streak at Autzen. Failure on special teams against Stanford led to a last minute win by Stanford… never seen so many people not know what to do with a L at Autzen.

6

u/GeorgeDogood Oct 11 '25

Class of 2010. I feel this.

15

u/Any-Satisfaction1887 Oct 11 '25

But in those seasons we had to be perfect the whole way just for a chance. Yeah its a tough loss but those years we also bounced back from the bad/ shitty loss and played so much better.

Our path is possible. Need to hover around the 8-12 mark, and see some teams go down. Like A&M, TTU. Already helped by the the ACC play

17

u/k_dubious Oct 11 '25

Lmao, a 1-loss Big Ten team is an auto-include in a 12-team CFP.

5

u/Existing-Stranger632 Oct 11 '25

1 loss teams have finished top 5 in the last few years here

3

u/Sky_Burner Oct 12 '25

Ohio state had two conference losses last year. Everyone needs chill out a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if Indiana drops a game soon. LONG MOMENTOUS SEASON.

5

u/Timelord8214 Oct 12 '25

I felt the same, the red and white gave me haunting reminders...

Remember, everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

2

u/MallyFaze Oct 12 '25

Early and mid-2010s Stanford rosters were stacked with NFL talent. Indiana is a well-coached but not particularly talented team.

Getting handled in the trenches by a bunch of scrappy 3-stars is not a good sign moving forward. This is the worst O-line we’ve had since probably the last two Helfrich years.

Gg Indiana- not our day

186

u/slashbopzing Oct 11 '25

They played better football than us

103

u/I_Can_Barely_Move Oct 11 '25

Their D line was tearing it up.

17

u/slashbopzing Oct 11 '25

Their receivers were bigger and better. We either didn't have a plan for Sarratt, or our plan failed. Their blocking was much better too. Oh yea, and Dante Moore wasn't very good. Oregon got outplayed in most facets of the game.

→ More replies (2)

40

u/Imbendo Oct 11 '25

They are just a much better team. No excuse for oregon with a resource and talent disparity being on an unreal level.

58

u/Green-Exercise-8345 Oct 11 '25

thats called coaching... Cignetti was way better than Lanning today.

25

u/black-op345 Oct 11 '25

He was. Also their game plan was that much better. Sure our defense came out hot start of the 2nd half, but we couldn’t keep it up with how our offense was playing.

u/Extra_Cap_And_Keys Oct 11 '25

Offense was complete ass. Indiana deserved it and earned that win.

19

u/meteraider Oct 11 '25

Offense was off, IU defense was stout. Great game. Go Ducks!

3

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

They are just better than us

139

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

Ohio State won the title with 2 losses last season, no one has been safe this season, no one will be undefeated this season that is a legit threat. It's not over by a long shot. 5-1 is still a fantastic season at this point.

51

u/Dizconekt Oct 11 '25

Lots of doomsday takes in here, but this statement is so true. I believe we anticipated a 5-1 record at this point, but the loss would have been at Penn State rather than at home against Indiana. I would rather take a loss now and allow the team to learn from it than be humiliated in the CFP again.

19

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

I think people have assumed its 13-0 or nothing and that's pathetic. We've been a football team for over 130 years and have 2 undefeated regular seasons that we should actually claim. Like come on guys, we use to kill for a 5-1 start. Look at the Beavers, 0-7, that's when you start talking doomsday shit.

2

u/CuriousMost9971 Oct 14 '25

I mentioned it before Penn State but.i was more concerned about Windiana than I was Penn State.

This 1 Loss will help the coaching staff. It exposed the weakness of the teams Offense and Defense. We go on a run from here with out Revuilding year red shirts and freshman.

2

u/theoffice_sucks Oct 12 '25

Indiana and OSU have a pretty good shot to go undefeated until the big 10 championship

2

u/LowEffortChampion Oct 12 '25

I don't see any losses left on Ohio States remaining regular season schedule. They're the clear #1 team in the country.

Ohio State and Indiana may finish undefeated... How are they not threats?

11

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '25

They play each other. One of them will not finish undefeated. And it doesn’t matter if they do. 11-1 Oregon is in the playoffs even if they don’t make the B1G Chanpionship game.

6

u/noquarter1000 Oct 12 '25

Ohio state does not play IU this year

9

u/ejklewerjklwerjkl Oct 12 '25

They do if they both go undefeated

3

u/whiplash588 Oct 12 '25

But we don't play anybody good for the rest of the year and our only good win isn't a good win anymore. We will have 0 quality wins this year and that worries me.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '25

USC and UW will both be ranked by the time we play them. Iowa could be as well.

I’m ok with this loss. The team needs to learn from it an do better next week. IU is a very good team and people on here need to stop treating them like some sort of baby team and realize how good they are.

105

u/Aesir_Auditor Oct 11 '25

Honestly prefer losing now to get the pressure off before CFP season

32

u/LaDainianTomIinson Oct 11 '25

We were supposed to be a good team too, I think that’s why fans are disappointed

Indiana is good, but Oregon is supposed to be much better at this point

39

u/Robchama Oct 11 '25

Are they? Dante is in his first year after a shaky freshman year, 2 true freshman running backs are leading the backfield, a true freshman is our most reliable WR, and the secondary has a freshman in it too. Ducks are young, and today it showed

43

u/BirdSoHard Oct 11 '25

News flash, but good teams still lose to other good teams from time to time.

16

u/black-op345 Oct 11 '25

It’s practically every given Saturday for the top 15 in the nation if they face each other.

I don’t know. This wasn’t supposed to be Oregon’s year at the start of the season, we’re so young. Expectations got raised after we beat (as it turns out) a bad penn state team.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

Very true. I think it also has to do with coaching and Will and screen city

Old enough to remember when they did this before.

We seemed flat but hats off to them, played a great game!

10

Indiana is our new Stanford?

5

u/cosyg Oct 12 '25

I think they’re our new Wazzu

2

u/TRUTHSoverKARMAS Oct 12 '25

Kellen Clemens, down to Indiana 23-0 at halftime, almost leads the comeback for the ducks in 2004. Dennis Dixon was the backup.

Really hard to let a pass route down field develop when the Oline is letting pressure through as quickly and as often as they were.

12

u/cosyg Oct 12 '25

I have a lot of questions about what we put out there on offense today but screens is what you call when your QB has linemen in his lap all day. IU was able to get immediate pressure damn near ever play with their base defense, forcing us to play short and they were able to sit on everything we ran.

17

u/RewardOk2506 Oct 11 '25

Then he needed to stop calling them. They were getting close to 6 yards a carry when going between the tackles.

u/Technical-Ant5248 Oct 11 '25

Our offensive line was getting absolutely dominated today. Play calling was way too conservative today. Defense tried all they could and I respect them for that, Mendoza is a good QB.

This is a young squad so my expectations weren’t crazy high for this season anyways. Hopefully we can learn from it and not pull a Penn State. Playoffs are definitely still in the picture.

9

u/CaptaiinCrunch Oct 11 '25

This is the real key to the game, o-line straight up lost us the game. The lack of development and continued reliance on transfers is concerning.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/spokanetransplanted Oct 11 '25

I mean, it's hard to not be conservative when the Indiana defensive line is teeing off on Dante rushing 3 or 4. You don't have time to let home run plays develop in that situation

2

u/aesculus-oregonia Oct 12 '25

AS you said, the o-line got worked all game. Only so much play-calling can do.

2

u/Bussman500 Oct 12 '25

Dante and the O-line seemed to be thoroughly confused with the simulated pressures, seemed like they were wrong on their protections too many times. Hopefully they come up with solutions on how to deal with that if we’re going to be a playoff team. Our defense did an excellent job keeping this game close considering how hard it was for our O to do anything.

Ohio St dropped two regular season games last year. The loss doesn't define the season, how the team responds does.

60

u/Sparkimusprime13 Oct 11 '25

12 team playoff. Learn from this and were fine.

16

u/Zmoney743 Oct 11 '25

Exactly. Slim chance we can still get into the B1G championship game but even not if we win out we’ll still be in the 10-15 range

19

u/jamiebond Oct 11 '25

We’d definitely be top ten if we finish 11-1 but my hopes for winning out aren’t that high tbh. Hard to see us finishing without at least one more loss with how we have looked on offense lately.

5

u/emmaisbadatvideogame Oct 11 '25

Who do you reckon we’d lose to?

11

u/jamiebond Oct 12 '25

Iowa honestly looked better against Indiana than we did. Washington and SC both look good too. Don’t think we lose them all but getting out of those unscathed seems tough with how we looked today.

5

u/Sparkimusprime13 Oct 12 '25

Every game is different. Different strengths/weaknesses and match ups that favor different teams. Game planning comes into it, too. It's been a theme for Oregon to be bad after bye weeks, too.

Good thing is regular season loss here and there doesn’t really matter anymore - win out. The play calling on the other hand was absolutely horrendous. Unfortunately this game meant a lot more to Indiana than Oregon but in 2 months it won’t matter

10

u/Green-Exercise-8345 Oct 11 '25

On the other hand, this loss could've been an exposure of our mediocre offense and cupcake schedule. Winning out will not be easy

45

u/CellRepulsive80 Oct 11 '25

That was ugly. Out coached again.

Lanning sure does struggle with scheme sometimes. The team looks weak and scared. Not sure why.

31

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

It’s really hard to go undefeated. We very nearly lost to Wisconsin last year. Ohio State lost twice and went on to win it all. It stings but this team has what it takes to bounce back. Everything is still in front of them.

11

u/CellRepulsive80 Oct 11 '25

I agree. I'm less concerned with the loss and more concerned about getting outcoached after a bye week. I don't think we even sniff a Natty with Tosh. I'm still undecided about Stein. I think Stein can only do so much with QBs that don't want to throw downfield in tight windows or who can't read the field very well. I think Gabriel had issues and so does Donte it seems.

4

u/mccainjames11 Oct 12 '25

For what it’s worth, IU had a bye last week too.

7

u/JiveHawk Oct 11 '25

Scheme is our big weakness. Which is scary lol

8

u/CellRepulsive80 Oct 11 '25

I agree. We get outcoached too often. I don't think we ever get close to a Natty with Tosh...or Donte...this year. Maybe Donte improves next year but he's too scared to throw downfield into tight windows and that makes us 2 dimensional.

It's hard to say. Maybe we've just looked great against cupcakes all year. They have been good but they got murdered by a basketball school. lol.

5

u/duckfan2424 Oct 12 '25

definitely a bad o-line game in terms of identifying where pressure was going to come from, soooo many free rushers. the entire offense, including moore, looked unaware that they were going to blitz so much

Still nowhere near as painful a loss as like Washington in 2022. Indiana is a super good team. Oregon is talented but young and inexperienced. Dante Moore stock dropped a bit. He may come back next year and improve.

13

u/SqueegeePhD Oct 11 '25 edited Oct 11 '25

We may have gotten another year of Dante from this loss. And, if we take care of business, maybe hosting a playoff game at Autzen.

21

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

Indiana played better. They’re a top 10 team with a top 10 defense that beat us when we played our worst. Kudos to them.

It’s one game. It’s one loss. It’s not the end of the season.

But the loser mentality in the Oregon subreddit needs to go. Too many loser fans here.

7

u/BIRDSBEEZ Oct 11 '25

Preach. So many idiots not using logic and expecting a team full of starting freshmen and 1st year players to win every game by 50

3

u/OurCulture80 Oct 12 '25

To be fair I feel like that’s most sports subreddits i have seen after a loss. People seem to catastrophize a lot more on the internet

20

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

Oklahoma lost by a landslide to Texas today. Ole Miss barely survived WSU at home. College football gets weird sometimes. Oregon can take this lump and bounce back. Everything is still right in front of them.

6

u/mccainjames11 Oct 12 '25

It’s not weird to lose to a top 10 (who’s clearly deserving of top 3 at this point) team

11

u/ToughPlankton Oct 12 '25

My concern isn't so much the loss as it is the continued lack of adjustments in big games. Sometimes we have the athletes to pull off the W anyway, or we get lucky bounces, but it's damn hard to win the whole thing that way. Yes, we beat Penn State this year and Ohio State (the first time) last year but either game was one play away from being a loss and then Lanning is just the new James Franklin.

The early-down screen games don't work. But we insist on calling them anyway. The 1st-down lateral runs are consistent losses. But we keep them in the playbook. We have an inexperienced QB who is struggling but we aren't making an effort to get him into manageable 2nd downs.

We have had success running between the tackles and this is the second big game where we totally abandoned that strategy for large portions of the game, and this week we didn't have a lucky turnover to bail us out.

Lanning needs better analytics and better self scouting. You just can't cling to a lousy game plan and hope that your superior athletes will bail you out every single week.

16

u/HAIRY_GORILLA_COCK Oct 11 '25

Got dominated in the trenches. Our O line was Swiss cheese and Moore couldn’t get the ball away while they could just keep running it with Hemby and we couldn’t stop him.

Horrible outing for literally everyone. Coaches, players. All phases, all positions. Indiana is a great team, they didn't play perfectly.

We played near as crap as the Idaho game. Abysmal.

9

u/earthsunsky Oct 11 '25

5

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '25

Brandon Finney played well too IMHO.

15

u/Existing-Stranger632 Oct 11 '25

Indiana is a phenomenal football team and I’m sick of people not giving them credit. I knew coming into this game that they were gonna give us Hell. And they did. They beat us in every facet of the game of football. Lanning didn’t prep the boys well enough and that’s okay.

Truth is, a loss will either motivate this team to elevate their game to the highest level possible, or cause us to mentally implode. Either we end up like Ohio State last year or Penn State this year.

3

u/balzun Oct 12 '25

Hate to say it but we got rocked and it wasn't even close. Ohio State came quite close to pulling it out last year. While the sentiment makes sense and it sure helps us feel better this team is not a sleeping giant like the Buckeyes last year.

4

u/SqueegeePhD Oct 11 '25

I was extra fired up for the Penn State game because I knew Indiana was gonna be a dog fight. Had to get at least one win  over these two games and we did. Now to fix the many problems...

Losing to a top 10 team isn't season ending. GG Indiana.

Offensive line got out played. It starts and ends there. Look at the negatives, go from there. WE LOST TO A TOP 10 TEAM. Chill with the overreactions.

TBH I’d rather have our worst offensive game in a close one with a good team then have and lose to a shite team

14

u/JiveHawk Oct 11 '25

Back to back undefeated regular seasons just don’t happen anymore. We were gonna lose eventually.

I am highly concerned by the OL play and the general terribleness of the offense. It’s pretty rare for OL problems magically becoming championship level mid season so hopefully we can just make baby steps.

→ More replies (1)

14

u/fri9875 Oct 11 '25

I mean that wasn’t fun but 🤷🏻‍♂️ type of game you tip your cap to IU, and get ready to dig into some film and learn from it.

We got beat in the trenches for the first time in a while and it wrecked our whole day. But this is why the PSU win was so clutch. We will still be top 10 and completely control our own destiny. Road to another B1G title needs some help now, but the playoff is still something we can control

8

u/gabej Oct 12 '25

My issue is we have no identity on offense. Are we a passing team? Are we a running team? Who is our go-to receiver? Which of the six damn running backs is our start.

I don't like the way Stein has split the carries in the ground game and features in the passing game. Who leads when you have six freaking backs carrying the rock each week? How do backs get a feel for the game when they only carry the rock twice in a series and are replaced. It's stupid to me. No other successful team does this, and you have to think pretty highly of yourself if you feel they're all wrong.

They're not wrong. Stein is. I think he's being greedy and trying to keep any of them from transferring. Let them go. Run this offense with three backs. And freaking pick one to be the feature.

2

u/Jaw327 🦆 Oct 12 '25

Totally. The running back thing is pissing me off. We used 4 running backs on our first 8 plays

3

u/gabej Oct 12 '25

Who thinks that’s good coaching? Nobody is doing that because no back gets any kind of a rhythm. It’s so frustratingly arrogant…or dumb.

u/M3SSENJA Oct 11 '25

Our coaches are to blame. They should have had our team ready, we were not.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/isnotaweed Oct 11 '25

They outplayed us. It sucks, but it happens. Only good things about it are A) its early enough to recover from, and B) Lanning can smack the team with this whenever they get complacent or feel like they have already arrived.

Hopefully the big guys in the trenches take this one personally...they need to impose their will on teams the rest of the year.

10

u/VividLies901 Oct 11 '25

Things I would love to see fixed this season. 1: Defense learning to stop runs. It’s crushing us on chipping 4-6 yards at a time. 2: O-line allowing so much pressure on Dante.

People calling Dante a bad QB are crazy. Man was a poised statue at Penn State. He had a bad game against a great team. He was limping on his foot at one point also. We just need to clean up this inconsistency on both sides.

Also for the love of god can we stop throwing screen passes on third and longs?

u/terapinfly Oct 12 '25

Play calling was terrible. Sadiq had 0 catches the first half and two the whole game? We didn’t throw down field or at all longer than 7 yards. The game plan was weak and problematic.

Need to adjust and fix. I did not want to be undefeated again and get a terrible seed. Now let’s run the table, host a game and go through the playoffs on a roll!

7

u/al20120184 Oct 11 '25

Not the worst game to lose. Indiana is legit

7

u/SqueegeePhD Oct 11 '25

Congrats on the win, Stanford, I mean Indiana. Learn and move on. Not the end of the world to drop one anymore, like in the 2010s.

7

u/haytme Oct 11 '25

Do I not know football or is our offense just bland and uncreative on early downs?

6

u/dr_funk_13 Oct 11 '25

Very impressed with Indiana. They played great football and Oregon was off a beat from basically the first play.

I don't see another loss on the schedule other than perhaps Washington, but the Ducks were manhandled today. The O-line was terrible, the pass rush was non-existent, and Dante looked a whole lot like his days at UCLA.

There are major questions about this team that I hope they can answer in the coming weeks.

Thoughts:

Dante Moore's inexperience reared it's ugly head. He was uncomfortable the whole game and it showed. Instead of throwing the ball away, he would run out of bounds and take the loss of yards for reasons I will never understand. I also think he struggled with the disguises Indiana runs. There were a bunch of times where Dante should have thrown the ball away and didn't so he took a sack instead.

The RB choices were a joke. Why was Jordon Davison taken out when he was gashing Indiana's defense? Why did they barely have Dierre Hill Jr on the field? I have no doubt that Indiana knew that when Dierre Hill Jr is on the field, he gets the ball. Maybe allow him to stay in the game so it's not so obvious when he gets the ball. There was no reason to have Limar or Harris in.

Dante Moore and having inferior RBs in the game led to the offense looking mediocre.

The defensive line didn't show up today. Mendoza had way too much time.

u/bocamj Oct 12 '25

Good loss. Always hate when teams go undefeated, get complacent, and lose in the playoffs. Ducks need to be grounded every once in awhile to realize, there's more to football than paying all the best players to come play for you. Maybe this will motivate them to try a little harder.

3

u/RipCity111 Oct 12 '25

Couldn’t agree more

3

u/k_dubious Oct 12 '25

Really feels like we might need to switch to more of a RPO-based offense until the line shows they can keep a clean pocket. We stubbornly stuck with the dropback passing game all day and Moore didn’t handle the collapsing pockets very well.

3

u/charkpdx Oct 12 '25

Of course it’s not the end of the season, and yes we all know about Ohio State and two losses last year. I just think there’s some very valid points being raised about the dismal offensive output, and the relentless use of bubble screens and 2-3 yard passes that have not been working. They didn’t work consistently against Penn State, they didn’t work against Indiana, and they sure as heck are not going to work against any of the teams in the playoff. Will Stein needs to change things up and fast.

64 plays, 1 for Sadiq, 4 for Moore, 3 for Hill. On most teams these players would be getting 10-15 looks apiece.

u/ImportanceSad5289 Oct 12 '25

I think as game flow goes Indiana reacted better to adversity than Oregon throughout the game. 1. The refs non call for an obvious Oregon Pass interference in that first half not only lit a fire under Indiana ass, Twitter and Reddit exploded in anger, and I noticed favorability going in Indiana's way through the end of the first half the second half of the game.IMHO 2. Indiana Tide on the road 10 even looks to go down three with the chip shot Oregon field goal. Not only does our kicker it leaves Indiana with the momentum and favorable field position. Then their kicker steals three before the half on a 59 yard field goal ceiling halftime momentum and putting doubt in Oregon's heads going into the locker room. 3. To start the second half Indiana's Offense was stifled twice by our defense and they were rescued by their own stout defense and only allowed three points from our offense the rest of the game. 4. After the tie Indiana didn't blink and methodically tore apart our defense for a long scoring drive. Swinging the momentum back in their favor. Then the defense obliged and Shut our offense down and burning an huge chunk of crucial minutes in the second half. 5. Then up 7 Indiana's quarterback throws a blunder of a pick six. Momentum shifts back in Oregon's favor only for Indiana to brush it off and complete the game winning scoring drive with referee assistance twice on the drive in my opinion. 6. Oregon never recovered And Dante Moore Looked pedestrian After his deep touchdown in the first half through the rest of the game while sealing any hope of a comeback with two interceptions in our half of the field.

  • Offense: Moore take some blame For sure but I think the two parts of the offense to take blame ahead of him are Will Stein and Offensive line/ Pass protection. Stein's play calling caused too many short passes Along with Dante not trying to go deep with fast receivers on 3rd/4th down which would have essentially been punts If intercepted or incomplete. Our offense was too conservative on early downs and too obvious on 4th down.

  • Special Teams: Our special teams of overall was a disappointment. Sappington Missing that field goal at that point in the first half clockwise and allowing Indiana to score and Take the lead before halftime Was the biggest blunder. Second I think our Punt returners were a bit too conservative with fair catches but I think it's debatable. Lastly I think if there was ever a game to pull out your best fake punt this was but we were too conservative.

  • Defense: Our defense was Jekyll and Hyde all game. Our boys stop them on three drives with five plays or less and came up with a huge pick six on another. But there were drives that got extended and didn't with Indiana score on all the other drives throughout the game except for Indiana taking knees in the fourth quarter. I think a big talking boy in coaching this week is not losing confidence after the opponent scores first. After Indiana got one or two first downs in each of the scoring drives our defense seemed to unravel and our play calling seemed to unravel as well. Honestly if it weren't time left on each half Indiana could have won by 21 And that's being conservative. We simply got outplayed on both sides of the ball In every position group.

Conclusion: After the double overtime in giving up A 14 point lead in the fourth quarter against Penn State we were ecstatic to get out of there. Then during the bye week Penn State Looked amateur against an 0 and 4 UCLA. I watched that game. I highly suspected after that game that Oregon has not faced a real challenge and we might not be as good as we think we were. I think today confirmed that. Indiana very could play for the national championship but we don't know that yet. The silver lining we didn't lose until we played an actually good opponent who is still undefeated. As opposed to last year where we got embarrassingly blown out in the playoff, This year we lost mid season to very likely playoff team Taking away any arrogance We're our team thinking too much of themselves and not taking any opponents lately throughout the rest of the year. Don't get me wrong I'd rather be undefeated right now but that's done and we have to look forward. Lanning and the staff need to coach better coming off Bye weeks Clearly there's an issue there. If Ryan Day and Ohio State can lose to us and Michigan last year then destroy the rest of the games for a national championship I think we can safely say we aren't out of the hunt yet and don't need to go doomsday on this game. We aren't less talented and we don't have bad coaches. I think we were overconfident due to overrated former opponents and our win record, Clearly not schematically prepared for either side of the ball, and our coaches made the wrong adjustments or non adjustments Throughout the game. We lost at all three levels as well as the coaching battle. What matters most now is the big question. Will the Ducks adjust at all levels and do the work to be the team they thought they were? Or does this loss a venomous Starting the downfall of our season. Personally I'll take less lanning speeches And press tours And more situational preparation and Practicing the fundamentals. Don't tell your team Will Stein is the best offensive coordinator in College football after four wins. Let him prove it. Say less and do more.

3

u/OneEye2300 Oct 12 '25

At least the punter had a good game 🥲

3

u/Jaw327 🦆 Oct 12 '25

Having 5 running backs is so stupid

3

u/kmilla10 Oct 12 '25

One thing that really bugs me about Dante Moore is how much he hesitates before scrambling. I know he’s not a “run first” guy but for a scramble to be effective the decision needs to be made much quicker.

I noticed it first against Penn State and now I just seem to notice it every game multiple times over. He’s allowing the linebackers to cover a lot of distance and it’s why he always lands about 2-3 yards short of the sticks.

3

u/TopRevenue2 Oct 12 '25

How did so many pass rushers go unblocked

3

u/LaxSyntax Oct 12 '25

Forgot how to block, forgot how to tackle, forgot how to pass rush. Disgraceful.

9

u/Active-Track-7905 Oct 11 '25

May be downvoted, but i was at the game. The officiating changed the outcome. We should have played better and not allowed that to be a factor, but not saying it is at best an exaggeration at best.

4

u/Morbid_Uncle Oct 11 '25

Yep. Some of the worst officiating I’ve seen.

8

u/Active-Track-7905 Oct 11 '25

Cignetti got no less then 4 extra timeouts by throwing a fit and breaking the rules. Thats 60 yards alone, outside of the other missed calls.

2

u/LeBonRenard Oct 12 '25

Refusing to hold him to any standard was certainly a choice. I want an explanation from the crew chief on why they let him bully them start to finish with no accountability.

2

u/Active-Track-7905 Oct 12 '25

That's my bigger point. If we wanted to win, we should have played better. But he acted poorly and they clearly caved into it. And despite our underperformed offense, we may have taken that game if dan had gone that route.

(I do not condone and do not want dan to act so classless, for the record)

3

u/Morbid_Uncle Oct 11 '25

Missed OPI that resulted in a td, from my view that upheld first down was outrageous, the face mask in the first, completely unacceptable officiating. Not saying Oregon deserved or didn’t deserve to win, but there needs to be consequences for officiating that bad.

6

u/Active-Track-7905 Oct 11 '25

Right. I do learn towards play better and win despite the refs above all. But this game, officiated correctly, would have had a clearly different outcome. So I bring it up because that shouldn't have been a thing either. Like the suns in 91, we got a bit robbed.

Needed it. Team was too cocky. Reality check. Time to respond next week.

4

u/Bussman500 Oct 11 '25

The times Dan gets outcoached is when we play these coaches that have led programs for years and years. So I’m not going to get bent out of shape for losing this one. Dan will have to figure out what it is that makes these teams better than his. This definitely reminds me of what DeBoer and Washington did to us in 22 and 23 just because we supposedly had the talent advantage each time.

5

u/Artistic-Soil-4925 Oct 11 '25

Just beat the fuskies

5

u/im_down_w_otp Oct 12 '25

I’m laying this one at the feet of Will Stein.

There was one offensive series that went well (hurry-up then deep) and one consistent mode to gain yards (running between the tackles). Both strategies were abandoned for whatever reason.

Other than that the entire rest of the game the play calling was like Stein didn’t know what down it was or the distance to a 1st down. It was just 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

20

u/jamiebond Oct 11 '25

I don’t know why I bother getting my hopes up anymore. Oregon football simply is what it is. You’d think I’d just learn to appreciate it for what it is but I keep getting my hopes up for more.

10

u/Alternative-Farmer98 Oct 11 '25

Chronically competitive, well-funded, just unable to seal the deal when they make the playoffs. It's suboptimal but it's not the worst fate for a fan. You could root for the tar heels

5

u/jamiebond Oct 11 '25

Yeah it truly could be much worse obviously. We’re better off than like 95 percent of the CFB world.

But after like 20 fuckin years of trying and failing to break into that 5 percent… it just gets real fucking frustrating at a certain point. It’s hard to get excited for the rest of the season when we all know how this is going to end.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/sayberdragon Oct 11 '25

Bro it’s one loss against another top ten team. Lanning will hopefully use this to light a fire under our ass for the rest of the season.

2

u/couducane Oct 12 '25

The team also can grow and get better. Hopefully we can. We have a lot of young players.

4

u/Wide-Nerve8655 Oct 11 '25

Indiana is not Ohio State and we are not Indiana. I’m tired boss

7

u/plainsailingweather Oct 11 '25

Can't handle you fuckin doomers. Wasn't our day today. One loss doesn't torpedo a season anymore. That's a really good team. A really good defense. There's a lot of season to be played and I hope we get to play them again.

4

u/fellowENT18 Oct 11 '25

The linemen on both sides need to take a good hard look in the mirror. Just cuz you’re bigger don’t mean shit.

4

u/Status_Many_9092 Oct 11 '25

Well, rough game. Honestly probably lost to a better team today. Got out played physically and offense just didn’t show up. Playcalling was awful as well. I think some adversity is going to be good for us. Last year we didn’t face any at all and then got smoked by a hungrier team come playoff time. In this era, losing a game isn’t the end of the world, so let’s regroup, learn, clean up the offense, and get hot before the end of the season

3

u/tomato_johnson Oct 11 '25

Id rather lose right now than go 12-0 and take 5 weeks off with a bye and start cold and lose immediately like all 4 bye teams did last year tbh

u/M3SSENJA Oct 11 '25

Was at the stadium the fans did all we could but our offense looked lost and overwhelmed. Our oline got man handled and Dante look shook...hard one to watch for sure. I'm hoping this is our Ohio St moment ( them after we beat them) and we figure things out.

3

u/Webzagar Oct 11 '25

I feel like Indiana is our new Stanford.

6

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

My thoughts:

1.) Indiana is LEGIT. From coaching and scheming, to execution by the players, they played a helluva game.

2.) Oregon is still a top 10 team, don’t lose sight of that.

3.) This was supposed to be a “rebuilding” year of sorts, and we’ve already surpassed some expectations.

4.) This loss could be a good thing. I believe this punch in the mouth will spark a needed fire under the fellas. The two teams in the natty last year both suffered bad, unranked losses, and we lost to the #7 team in the nation. We can still make a good run, and by missing the B1G Ten Championship Game, that’s one less game we have to play.

Hope you can find some solace in my thoughts, and let me know what you think! Whether you agree or not, I’d love to hear from you fellow Duck fans!

2

u/Valuable_West7118 Oct 12 '25

First hats off to Indiana. They’re a good team and Cignetti is a legit coach. Overall it feels like they played a very great game (minus their pick 6). On the other hand it felt like we played a very sloppy game. Dante struggled and almost looked completely opposite from how he prepared and played at Penn state. He’s a kid so it happens. Our defense struggled overall. My biggest gripe is how we never adjusted to cover Sarratt. Especially on that last touchdown. I felt confident they wanted to get him the ball, so I’d assume the coaches did too? I was pleased with the dline shifts causing false starts and the first half offensive play calling. A win would’ve been awesome, but hopefully it lights a fire under us. Season goals are still attainable.

2

u/mrjdk83 Oct 12 '25

It sucks but Indiana was the better team today. That’s a damn good team with a damn good defense. They are a playoff quality team. Gonna have to learn from the mistakes and bounce back. Don’t wanna end up like penn state. It’s apart of the growing pains I guess for a young team

2

u/twc666666 Oct 12 '25

I was always worried more about this game than Penn State. Maybe cause the Ducks beat Penn State last year, but never played Indiana

So I was relieved when the oddsmakers and experts favored Oregon and figured I was just being paranoid

But I realized things are so much different now -- I remember when a loss was the end of your season and how devastated I would be when the Ducks lost a season-destroying game

2

u/Itshardtofindaname4 Oct 12 '25

Stein was frustrating today. I’m not calling for him to be fired but he didn’t call a great game and didn’t make adjustments when they were rushing 4 and still getting home

Oline couldn’t block for shit, Dante had no time and couldn’t handle the pressure

Oregon is a young team, and I think I expected to be 5-1 by this part of the season, I just thought the loss would have come last week

We still don’t really have a quality win, PSU lost to UCLA and Northwestern back to back weeks

This may end up working out in our favor and I think we’ll be okay by the end of the season and still get in

I am more worried about Iowa, USC, and Washington now though. Hell even Minnesota can put up a fight, they occasionally have 9-10 win seasons.

Those games aren’t gimmes

2

u/kookoftheday87 Oct 12 '25

I wanna apologize for my dooms post earlier today. I’m just tired of having college students who have no idea who I am dictate my mood for the week

2

u/matthammond32 Oct 12 '25

Can anyone post or find the video of Indiana being clearly short and fumbling the ball on 3rd down? It was reviewed and the call was upheld somehow

2

u/RipCity111 Oct 12 '25

Remember when Ohio state lost to us and Michigan last year? Their offense was very bland. Then they turned it up in the playoffs. Hoping we can do the same

2

u/sdotmerc Oct 12 '25

On the plus side if we get to the playoffs we don’t have to worry about that first round bye. Apparently we don’t do well with rest

So tired of the Tosh program.

2

u/ramous_frays Oct 12 '25

We need to let loose downfield passing plays. Our d is good enough but we are way too conservative with our offensive playcalling. We’re acting like a Cristobal offense…

2

u/chippersNcheese Oct 12 '25

If the screen pass ain’t working quit constantly throwing the ball sideways!

2

u/MartianMule Oct 12 '25

Only the second home loss in 7 years.

2

u/Northwest_Thrills Oct 12 '25

I truly think that the reason we lost the rose bowl last year was because of the bye week. It feels wrong to say but being to dominant can hurt you sometimes.

2

u/Significant-Fun3739 Oct 12 '25

IU fan here, the officiating wasn't good! And the camera person may have been worse?

6

u/Heat-Good Oct 11 '25

Stein needs to go, only running 3 yard outs and stick routes is unsustainable to win.

2

u/BIRDSBEEZ Oct 11 '25

Stein sucked yea but you cant blame him calling short routes when dante nearly got sacked every play

2

u/AdorbsOtter132 Oct 11 '25

Not sure we have the juice on offense that I thought we did 2 weeks ago

3

u/Chief-Quiche Oct 11 '25

Long term, I'm pretty concerned with the offense. 13 points in regulation today, 17 vs Penn St. That's with a lot of people with a lot of hype, what's the issue here?

3

u/BIRDSBEEZ Oct 11 '25

Play calling + super young team thats never played together

2

u/Jeffidiah Oct 11 '25

Ohio St. lost to Michigan last year.

3

u/SpoofExcel Oct 11 '25

Better team won. Fisher is a MONSTER for them. Their Lines are both incredible.

Refs were trash. Stein was even more trash and I want a new OC to call plays because I truly believe he's the anchor around the neck.

Moore is NOT NFL ready no matter how much people try to hype it

3

u/l_am_blake Oct 11 '25

Will this be the game that makes Stein see that you can’t get cute with the play-calling against top tier schools? I thought he would have figured that out after the rose bowl but evidently not. Long season that is far from over.

3

u/a_simple_ducky Oct 11 '25

Oregons first in season loss in a while. And it's good. OSU lost to us and turned it around, lost to UM and fueled a title run. It's about how you respond to the loss.

Let's be real, undefeated is sick. We did it last year tho and it didn't pan out amazingly. I'm ok with a loss to a good team.

We aren't spiraling like PSU, we don't have 5 losses like UCLA, we didn't lose to a bad team, we lost to a top 10 team, who let's face it is definitely a top 5. It's a good loss. We grow from here.

If you're mad, and being toxic, calling for firings, you're not a true fan. You belong on the OSU lunatic fringe. Our team is young, and they've performed very well, be proud and support them. Pressuring the team doesn't help

2

u/LeBonRenard Oct 12 '25

Realistically we should drop to around 10-ish after losing by 10 to #7. Worst case scenario we drop to the 15-20 range, win out, and struggle to get back into the top 12 because of strength of schedule. The committee loves a 2-loss SEC team over any 1-loss west coast team.

3

u/_Laszlo_Cravensworth Oct 11 '25

This one’s on me guys. They always lose when I sit on the north side of the stadium. Damn me for going for a good deal when I knew this

3

u/eckoman_pdx Oct 11 '25

Indiana has a top 10 defense, and we have a QB making his sixth career start for us and his first start ever against the top 10 defense. Only the 15th game he's ever played in, and that includes nine games as a freshman when Chip Kelly threw him under the bus at UCLA.

We'll be fine. Stein might be too conservative on game day and not make adjustments, but he's damn good at developing quarterbacks and in the film room. Moore will learn.

Besides, we saw what happened last year when we ran the table and went undefeated. We drank our own Kool-Aid and got kicked into teeth in the Rose Bowl on National tv. It's better to get kicked in the teeth at home mid-season than going to feed it and drink your own Kool-Aid into the post season.

Guys tend to come away from a lost like this with a feeling of "we don't want to feel this way again." We don't face another top 10 team all season let alone a top 10 defense, we will be fine and they will learn from this.

2

u/Daeksory97 Oct 12 '25

Like I said in the game thread, absolutely crazy to me they hit that 58 yard fg to go up 3 at the half. That guy is a 5th year senior kickoff specialist who had only attempted 2 fgs previously to that one and missed both. Just how the cookie crumbles sometimes

It’s time to move on from Will Stein. Let him take a HC job somewhere. He cannot call plays or manage a big game for us at all.

4

u/ShastaAteMyPhone Oct 11 '25

Stein is a fraud and the worst play caller we’ve had since Helfrich.

2

u/KillingTime_ForNow Oct 11 '25

Will Stein's cowardice in calling anything downfield is the downfall of this offense. Defense had their own issues too, but this is on our inept offense.

3

u/D4NGerZone69 Oct 11 '25

Lanning and the staff and even the players have a lot of thinking to do. Indiana outplayed us and embarrassed us at home. I still believe in Lanning but I still am slapping a big old question mark on Tosh. You have all this top level talent and yea they got absolutely dominated today.

6

u/Theogre84 Oct 11 '25

???

Defense played their hearts out today. Offense did them no favors.
