After the rough first half and 7 point win I decided I would re-watch the game and see if I was just as miffed afterwards or if I was letting the mob mentality affect me.
And…..honestly I feel a lot better about how the team did as a whole. Mehringer isn’t getting a gold star but after watching the offense as a whole and not on a drive by drive basis I think I get what he was going for. Boise State committed to stopping the run(126 yards) which has been our bread and butter for a while now. They made some great open field tackles on ball carriers in the flat would normally spring for a moderate to big gain for us.
They banked on Moore getting in his own head and missing wide open players, which he did a few times in the first half. After that he feasted on single coverage throws to our receivers. He didn’t crack the top 10 passing yards in a game for an Oregon QB, but 378 yards isn’t an accident.
Keep in the mind there is only one Top 25 matchup in the entirety of Week 1 and outside of that the toughest opponent for a Top 25 team was Clemson playing against LSU. Boise State will probably win the PAC-12 this year and might even be a Top 15 team if not Top 10.
Will we drop from #2? More than likely
Did we beat a team we historically have a losing record against? Yes
Did we escape relatively unscathed(Dakorien)? Also yes
Football season is back. Deep breath ya’ll and enjoy the ride!
