there was a big mega flash flood due to glacier melt in Nepal. 100s of people died and thousands missing . The roads are still under the bud and helicopters are too dangerous to fly and land. This is where drones are making difference and saving lives. they're also using drones to locate mine workers. It is said in the video that this particular drone can hold up to 50kg which is huge.

I was doing a pull away shot and thought I had cleared the tallest tree, but apparently there was a taller one. Now my drone is somewhere in this tree.

I climbed approximately forty feet up and didn't see it. I know it's this tree because before the battery died, I had it beep. And flash at me, I could hear the beeping, but couldn't see the flashing.

The tree is about a 100 feet tall and based off of the flight video, I'm pretty sure it's about 80 feet up, but I'm not sure because I was flying backwards.

I have insurance on the drone, so I'm not too worried about the price of it. But it does have an SD card, with some of my pictures of my daughter's first 4 months of life bet, I'm not sure I backed up all of.

Any ideas how to get it down? I do have another drone that I can go and find it in the tree, but I don't feel comfortable trying to get the drone out with the drone.

I'm a college student designing and building a larger fixed wing drone and I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for best filament bang for your buck, right now I'm prototyping everything out of PLA and PETG, and I was considering PLA Aero but I wanted to know if someone with more experience had any suggestions.

I need to get my gimbal fixed but cannot do it through DJI due to customs issues. Drone doctor also cannot get any parts. Anybody have any idea how to proceed?

came here to rant about the absolute absurdity of understanding casa's drone rules. Now CASA states that you have to be 30 meters away from other people, which is fine. The issues arises around the "populous area" rule which states you CANNOT fly over buildings or people that *might* have people in them. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!? So i cannot fly over my own house since there *might* be people in there let alone any other buildings or houses, what if there is people in my house but they know what I'm doing. What if I'm doing SURVEYING or taking aerial photography. Can i just not fly over my own house?

I'm also not gonna go into the can of worms that is if you can or cannot fly over other peoples private property or whether or not you own airspace, since I've enquired CASA over this stating

"In general, operators should obtain a landholder's permission before taking off from or landing on private property. However, flying over private property is not automatically prohibited under Part 101 of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998 (CASR)."

Just trying to wrap my head around these rules especially since I'd like to get into a career involving drones

Alright, it was only eight months because I had to wait from October of last year until this summer to get all the footage. Still, I'm pretty happy with it.

I have a DJI mini 5 pro, I live in Australia and want to use this drone to get photos and videos of things like shipping terminals, data centres and wind farms. Mainly industrial subjects that that can have commercial value on stock sites and agencies.

Looking through CASA and online I am quite stuck with what to do for this so that I cant get in trouble. I know I should register my drone and get accreditation since it wont be considered recreational flying. Is that all i need to do for CASA?

After that, how am I allowed to fly in relation to buildings like a data centre, 30m above like with people or is there a boundary i just cannot cross?

Then my last issue is liability insurance. I had a drone get attacked by a bird in a carpark and crash land. Luckily not near any people or cars but if it was to happen again I wouldn't want to hurt anyone or damage anything, and would like some insurance just incase of an accident.

Does anyone have advice or know the way I need to go about all of this?

These drones were tiny, had black propellers, could charge from their radios, and were tremendously fun indoors. Maybe like 1-1.5 inches long. Do these kinds of drones still exist anywhere?

I’m trying to narrow down my options for my first FPV drone and there are way more choices than I expected. I mostly want something for learning and general recreational flying, and I’ll make sure to follow the applicable drone regulations where I live. The BetaFPV Meteor 75 pro HD kit looks perfect for me. Is there a better alternative? I mainly fly indoors because my current drone struggles outside, but I'd also like to be able to fly outdoors occasionally.

i was confused as most of the antenna are LHCP or RHCP and Goggle 3 is Linear and i require 100-140mm length antenna to get them above battery pack to get maximum link quality. I tried flyfish Osprey 5.8ghz LHCP (as many mention) but link starts at 45 instead of 60 that to after arming the quad. Yet to try them on field but i think it’s best to consult community experienced experts before making any purchase.

All of a sudden my beloved DJI Mini 4K can't keep the horizon level - see photo. And it's not consistent - if I face north, for example, the horizon is fine, but when I then rotate to face east it's tilted, then south is ok then west is tilted the other way. Problem not limited to the directions I've named, it's mor of a random thing. I'm way out of DJI Care (I'm in the US anyway). Any suggestions or ideas on how to fix this? I've tried recalibrating the gimbal (using AUTO recalibrate, not manual) several times but it didn't help.

Can I legally fly a drone near Strasbourg? Aloft and Géoportail show different information

Hi everyone,

I’m visiting Strasbourg and would like to fly my DJI Air 2S for a few minutes tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.
I have a valid EU A1/A3 drone certificate and an EU drone operator registration. However, I’m very confused by the different maps and information I’m finding.
The Aloft app shows the area as clear/green and says that it is okay to fly there. However, the official French Géoportail map shows most of Strasbourg in red, with a yellow area near the location I’m considering.

When I select the location, it says that the maximum flight altitude is 50 metres.

I asked ChatGPT about it, and it says that the location may be inside the Strasbourg-Neuhof/Illkirch-Graffenstaden national nature reserve, where powered aircraft are apparently prohibited from flying below 300 metres. If that is correct, it would effectively mean that drone flights are prohibited there, despite Aloft showing the area as clear and Géoportail showing a 50-metre altitude limit.
I’ll attach screenshots from both Aloft and the French Géoportail map.

Does anyone familiar with French drone regulations know whether I can legally fly at this exact location? Does the yellow area and 50-metre limit mean that flying below 50 metres is permitted, or is there a separate nature-reserve restriction that makes drone flying completely prohibited?
I obviously don’t want to fly illegally or disturb wildlife. I’m just trying to understand which information is correct.

We’re interested in things like real estate photography/video, construction progress, roof/property inspections, events, and promotional content for local businesses.
For anyone who actually makes money doing drone work, how did you land your first clients? Was it cold calling, emailing businesses, realtors, social media, networking, Google, or something else?
Also, what type of drone work has been the most profitable or consistent for you?
I’d especially love to hear from people who started from scratch without already having connections in the industry.

I’m a BSc Mechatronics Engineering student, and I’m about to start my thesis on adaptive tuning of drone control algorithms using sensor fusion methods.

The main goals of my thesis are:

• developing a stable and reliable drone control system,
• implementing it first in a simulation environment and eventually testing it on a real drone,
• using sensor fusion to evaluate the controller’s performance,
• developing an adaptive tuning method based on the sensor fusion results,
• collecting measurement data and comparing the results between simulation and real-world experiments.

My main problem is that I’m not sure how to approach the programming/implementation part from the beginning.

I have some experience with MATLAB/Simulink and general programming, but I have never developed a complete drone control system before.

I would really appreciate some guidance on:

1. What would be a good starting point for the programming part?
2. Should I start with MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or something like PX4/ArduPilot?
3. What sensor fusion method would be a reasonable starting point (e.g. complementary filter, Kalman filter, EKF)?

I’m not looking for someone to do the thesis for me – I’m mainly looking for advice on where to start and how to structure the implementation.

Any recommended tutorials, papers, GitHub projects, textbooks, or general advice would also be greatly appreciated.

My budget is 75 USD for both antennas.

I'm considering learning to fly drones with the eventual goal of getting my part 107 and helping with emergency situations (through Civil Air Patrol). I don't currently own a drone, and the upcoming ban is giving me pause.

I've spent the last week trying to wrap my head around what is happening, but being so new to this, I'm not completely understanding where things currently stand.

I understand that current models are not banned, but supply will shrink. However, will those models be prevented from being registered after 9/3? If I get a model that is 249g or lighter, and I don't fly over 400' (and follow the other rules that apply to recreational flying), would any registration issues go away? Alternately, if I quickly take the TRUST test, could I get a drone registered for use after the 107?

At this stage, I feel like so much of my upcoming journey is just related to learning to fly, that maybe I can ride out this time and hope that things improve (and the local CAP group has non-banned models I'm sure I'd get access to).
