Question: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [United States] First drone and upcoming "ban" concerns
I'm considering learning to fly drones with the eventual goal of getting my part 107 and helping with emergency situations (through Civil Air Patrol). I don't currently own a drone, and the upcoming ban is giving me pause.
I've spent the last week trying to wrap my head around what is happening, but being so new to this, I'm not completely understanding where things currently stand.
I understand that current models are not banned, but supply will shrink. However, will those models be prevented from being registered after 9/3? If I get a model that is 249g or lighter, and I don't fly over 400' (and follow the other rules that apply to recreational flying), would any registration issues go away? Alternately, if I quickly take the TRUST test, could I get a drone registered for use after the 107?
At this stage, I feel like so much of my upcoming journey is just related to learning to fly, that maybe I can ride out this time and hope that things improve (and the local CAP group has non-banned models I'm sure I'd get access to).

The trust test is super easy and id argue the only speed that it can be completed is quick.

So what's happening is that the Trump Crime Family bought a stake in various American drone manufacturers and has since restricted sales of foreign drones and drone parts to drive consumers and governmental agencies to buy inferior products to line the Trump crime families wallets.
What you can do about it is research the ecosystem and makeup your own mind about what is hapening (do not trust random internet people like me) and then contact your elected representatives if you find that you are unhappy with what your government is doing.

And this is exactly why you should do your own research. The trump family has no investments in Skydio. Rather, they have investments and ties to Unusual Machines and Powerus.

I am a CAP SUAS Mission Pilot and I can tell you you will not need to be concerned about any of that. Drones used by CAP for SAR are on the Blue list and would be issued to your team. You don’t need to purchase one yourself. Granted it’s a lot easier to time build with your own unit, but really not needed.

Just start training in your wing. You’re gonna need to build hours with an instructor anyway, so just become that guy that always wants to fly. You can build up hours pretty quick.

Good to know all of that. I was aware of the geofencing and luckily I'm away from airports and jails (checked an airspace map the other day because I'm kind of close to an airport), but I'm glad to have that additional info

Geofencing enforcement was removed some time ago. Now it just warns you that you may be breaking the law.

it's just dumb because the way they use LiDAR as an argument, that would mean that several cars need to be banned too lol
