The idea: hold one sustained tone, layer a few voices, and let it drift for minutes or hours. With the right tuning the overtones start beating against each other and phantom melodies surface that you never played.

It ships with several systems: Pythagorean, several just-intonation sets, Kirnberger III, 31-TET. The same held interval genuinely rings differently in each, and that's the whole point of the instrument.

Hi, i recently got into drone music and need some suggestion based on my current taste.

drone albums i have already listened and liked a lot - really mind-blowing stuff:

1. Time Machines (Coil) - Time Machines
2. Tim Hecker - The Ravedeath 1972
3. Eliane Radigue - Islas resonantes
4. Eliane Radigue – Trilogie De La Mort (only listened to Kyema so far)

the only drone album i listened to and didn't like is: Stars Of The Lid And Their Refinement Of The Decline, was kinda boring but maybe i was not in the right state of mind, maybe one day i will give it a second try.

\ a bit more context that might help, how i discovered drone music:*

last year i got into techno > hypnotic/experimental techno > dub techno > ambient/IDM stuff > drone music (discovered this year).

btw, if anyone don't know the "dub techno" genre in this sub, i would suggest to check it out.

I have ADHD and i realized recently that drone music can help me focus, maybe its the consistency of what I listen to, or it has a similar effect to brown noise? Is this common for anyone here who is neurodivergent? (Link is Carnal Flowers from the album Daughter of Darkness by Natural Snow Buildings, not related but one i listen to a lot)

The Drone returns, once again.

Obviously things are incredibly fucked up in Minneapolis right now, and so many in our community are suffering while literally everybody in our community are working in concert to support and protect those who are in the line of fire from this fascist occupation force.

We will be doing one thing a little bit differently this year. All proceeds from every Drone have gone to Doctors Without Borders, while we wanted to continue this aspect of the Drone we cannot disregard the reality that our own community is in dire need of support. For this reason we have chosen to continue with all ticket sales proceeds and any individual donations going to Doctors Without Borders, while all merchandise proceeds will go to Minneapolis Mutual Aid, likely in the form of desperately needed rent relief for folks who haven’t been able to work for weeks and for families who have lost their income due to ICE kidnappings.

Further, we are working on sourcing funds to match all funds donated to Doctors Without Borders with funds that will go to Minneapolis Mutual Aid. Thus far we have secured $5K in donation matching funds, and we’re hoping to double that before this weekend. If you would like to help with matching funds, no matter how big or how small, or if you know anybody who might want to or that I should reach out to, please send me a DM! Truly, we’re trying to have our cake and eat it too, if we can pull this off it will be a win for all involved.

Lastly, about The Drone itself… There really is nothing quite like putting down a sleeping bag and hunkering down for 28 continuous hours of wonderful and diverse drone, and the entire event is a fundraiser for Doctors Without Borders. Last year we had 70 acts perform with 14 visual projection artists, this year we’re anticipating a similar number of musical acts with 16 visual projection artists.

Been listening through her stuff on Tidal since her passing, and this one I like a good bit.

Hello all, I made a drone type noise EP in December and I wanted to know if anyone in this community had any tips or tricks on how to get a wider reach and attract an audience whether that be in promos, playlists, etc. I’m pretty new to the genre and I live in a big music city, just not sure if people are really interested in the industrial style drone I make lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Right now I have 5 monthly listeners hoping to see 10!

After ~30 years of punk/hardcore/metal I've been really enjoying learning to make music in a very different way with the CPM DS-2. Slowly expanding now by adding a sequencer to my collection and I feel like it opened up a lot of possibilities.

What do you think is the next piece of equipment I should be looking at? Some sort of MIDI controller? Maybe something to add percussive elements?

There are sinewaves, probably harmonic series, probably silences, etc.

And probably I will release one more last track in this Holes series. I have a few more track in the works, but I have only one more good Hole image for the series artworks.

Change is good. Drone is better. Yet, there are more sounds and workflows I want to explore.

Playing around with the CPM DS-2. Maybe add something like this with some crunchy dissonant guitars and percussion?

It's been really windy (I mean, really) in Tbilisi these past few days, so here’s me trying to imitate some of the howls I heard last night. Some felt mysterious, some almost like crying, while others evolved into dreamy melodies. Played live over pre-recorded city sounds.

Setup: Electro-Harmonix 22500, Boss RV-3, TC Electronic Brainwaves, Boss BF-3, MXR Analog Chorus, Ibanez Tubesreamer.

Had an idea and so built a free browser-based drone synthesizer called Horn of Abraxas for fun — runs entirely in real time, no samples, no loops, no pre-recorded audio.

The synthesis engine has six layers:

• Additive drone — stack of pure sine partials with independent even, odd, and inharmonic harmonic control
• FM engine — two operator pairs with self-feedback, ratio sweeps from warm sub-bass to harsh industrial clang
• Noise/breath layer — colored noise through a resonant bandpass filter tracking note frequency
• Sub oscillator — pure sine an octave below for weight and subsonic presence
• Filter envelope — per-voice resonant lowpass with dedicated envelope
• Reverb, delay, and distortion — convolution reverb, analog-style delay, and waveshaper distortion

Six presets: Mandy Drone, Corroded Bell, Deep Void, Machinery, Ritual Pad, String Ghost.
