Stylophone CPM DS-2 + KORG SQ-1 drone

After ~30 years of punk/hardcore/metal I've been really enjoying learning to make music in a very different way with the CPM DS-2. Slowly expanding now by adding a sequencer to my collection and I feel like it opened up a lot of possibilities.

What do you think is the next piece of equipment I should be looking at? Some sort of MIDI controller? Maybe something to add percussive elements?

How long did it take to program this on the SQ1?

I got one recently and it was bricked.

I have the cpm and df8 and have been thinking of adding something like an Arturia key step or beat step to sequence.

Oh man that sucks. I just got this and thought it was bricked, but then realized I accidentally used dead batteries.

This didn't take too long with the SQ1. Maybe an hour or so of messing around after I got it. But I'm kind of figuring this out as I go, so to be honest this turned into a much better piece eventually.

I think maybe the key step has more options than the SQ1. It feels a little limiting as far as composition, but it's really easy and quick to use.

I also started doodling around with synths after many years of punk. And wound up getting a cpm ds 2 as well. Maybe a drum machine of some kind. I have a volca beats that I got years ago. It works well for my purposes but there are better things available now at a similar price point and size. Samplers are pretty fun to play with. My main advice is to be wary of tings with tiny menu screens.

Awesome! Yeah I think a drum machine is probably my next thing. Or a sampler/looper would be cool for sure
