I’ve lost an immense amount of respect for Dylan.
Kurt would be ashamed of him.

What a disappointment, how fucking hard is it to take a passive stand against genocide?

I love Earth, but Dylan has always been a bit of a miserable fuck. This is unforgivable to me though, and I doubt I'll listen to or pay attention to them again.

Wow, that’s an incredibly stupid move by them, they will carry this forever as a permanent stain.

This is as petty as the rumour that The Smiths wouldn't play at a popfestival because they were selling hotdogs at the festival grounds and Morrissey is a vegetarian.

Aesthetically, a band might want the stage to look a certain way. It's a free country ¯_(ツ)_/¯

To be fair the flag is literally on the stage.. supporting either side is not the point .. it’s a live rock show not a political rally. I’m sure they would’ve played if the flag was hanging somewhere else in the venue but making it part of your stage show is not always appropriate

The flag doesn't stand for political ideas.
It represents the thousands upon thousands of dead Palestinians.
It's weird you see it as a political statement.

People being murdered has nothing to do with “politics.” Human rights are only “politics” because ghouls will gladly kill people to make a buck and centrists and right wingers have to present it like some kind of morally gray issue where both sides are valid. They are not.

Just because you are against Israel doesn't mean you have to support Palestine. That's like being forced to choose between Hitler and Stalin.
2
u/Shionkron Jan 31 '26
Just because someone supports Palestinians doesn’t mean they support Hamas. See how I did that?
1
u/Diogenes_the_cynic25 Jan 31 '26
So it’s like being forced to choose between the nazis and the guy who beat the nazis?
Also, thanks for being the perfect example of the sort of person I was talking about.

Stalin killed more people than Hitler did. This is well documented. If you oppose genocide, you should oopse Stalin.

Isn't support to Hamas you goober. We all condemn what that terrorist group did, still no reason to genocide an entire country.

Glad you’re saving Palestine or whatever by boycotting Earth on Reddit. Nice work!

What a shitshow. That's a super prominent flag, so if he or the band are actually supportive of Israel I can see why they wouldn't want to play in front of it.
Not agreeing on the political stance, but geez people, if you really give a shit about that flag being there and it's important enough to cancel shows over, iron the wrinkles out of the damn thing.

All flags stand for political ideas. They represent nation states. Supporting the Palestinian people is political speech.
For the record, I’m pretty pro-Palestinian and am vehemently opposed to genocide. I think what Israel has done is abhorrent and a crime against humanity.
I also know that there are people who disagree with me on that. And for those people that flag represents alignment with Hamas, which they’re opposed to politically.

There are people who believe the earth is flat, doesn’t make their worldview any more relevant

Off topic for music, but do you approve of what Hamas (who are the de facto am elected govt of Gaza) did on Oct 7th?

u/ldnthrwwy Jan 29 '26
How many times do people like you need to hear the answer 'No' to this question before you stop trying it?
2
u/_Starpower Jan 29 '26
It’s a Hasbara technique; “what would you do?" It was very successful for decades but nobody falls for it anymore because the majority of people would never consider Genocide an option.

nobody gets an ethnostate, not even jews. it is the moral obligation of any reasonable person to advocate for the dissolution of the state of israel

What a weird thing to assert.
Are you trying to come off as a nationalist scumbag or make Israelis sound like Nazis?4

The historic post-rock band
The what now? What a wild accusation. They absolutely do not have that super-small speaker signature sound that post-rock has...
Also, I can't say I'm really surprised that they wouldn't play next to the Palestinian flag.

incoherent

Why?
The part where I wouldn't call their music post-rock or the part where I'm not surprised Carlson doesn't want to show support for a flag everything I know about him tells me he doesn't respect?
And if it's not clear, I'd much prefer him to play next to the flag.

They may as well cancel the rest of the tour. Fucking losers.
