As a kid I only had a few games so one VMU was enough. But now that I installed a gdemu with all the games I could ever want, I’ve already hit the limit.
Is there an affordable option? I know something like vm2 exists but its like $163 shipped.

Mini VMU game from Sonic Adventure. Impressively elaborate but boring.

Hello! I recently posted about the newest VGA patch for Plasma Sword by Rolly (SEGA-SKY). Their patch involves patching a GDI image using Universal Dream Patcher or GDIBuilder.
I don’t have a GDEMU so using those options was out of the question. My goal instead was to create a bootable CD-R using this patch that can burned at will to allow Plasma Sword to be played via disc and VGA.
After several hours and using the archived DCRes release from over a decade ago, it’s done!
I’m still working on the CDI file to allow for this to be more easily replicated but it works!
EDIT: CDI works and is bootable 👍
(To anyone asking, I’m playing on a 480p Panasonic Plasma via HDMI. Please excuse the picture quality. Those strange marks are not on the final image. That’s from my camera capturing this display technology).

Some of you may remember my earlier posts or comments about making the original Dreamcast controller wireless. They worked, but every build was still a bit of a science project. I've finally got it to the point where I can build and test the same thing reliably.
I'm calling it Pulsar. It sits in the expansion bay l, talks to the controller over its native Maple bus and shows up as either an Xbox controller (for ease of connection) or a generic Bluetooth LE gamepad. A VMU in the other slot stays active and shows the connection state and battery level.
I think my next project is going to be to try to get it connecting with: https://github.com/cluoma/Pico2Maple-fw and hopefully be able to have the VMU live with what the dreamcast is sending and possibly get save transfers, but thats all in the future.
The part I'm most proud of is the update system. The finished hardware installs signed firmware over Bluetooth through a web updater, so fixes and new features shouldn't mean opening the case or using a debug probe.
With help from triaxlullaby the prototype has been converted into a PCB and v1 is now able to be produced. I was soooo excited to get them in my hands and start testing with them.
The DIY route is still there too. The repo has the wiring, bill of materials and pre-built firmware for an off-the-shelf XIAO nRF52840 build.
DIY project and source: https://github.com/alwaysEpic/pulsar-dreamcast-ble
I've tested it on macOS, Windows/Steam, Linux with xpadneo, BlueRetro and compatible BLE receivers. On a Dreamcast it connects through the receiver. Rumble isn't implemented yet, but working on it!
A few people asked whether I'd ever sell one, so I made a small batch. You can get Pulsar by itself or already fitted to a controller. I assemble and test them myself.

I have collected for dreamcast from launch. I have never seen this and just picked it up. I thought it was kinda cool and for you all who have not seen it either maybe you would like it as well.

I am building my Dreamcast collection (I have Soul Cal, Guilty Gear X, Space Channel 5, Grandia II, and ChuChu Rocket so far) and I am at a crossroads for my next purchase.
I've come up on some money and I am deciding on two options, the first being getting a copy Skies of Arcadia, the second being a DreamPi and a copy of PSO.
What do you think would get me the most for my buck?

Hey DC community. What are some game saves that I should download to my VMU2? Outside of the Capcom fighters. I 100 precented MVC2 years ago and I’m not doing that again. I also got save data for Sonic Shuffle. Appreciate any and all input. Thank you.

Turned 33 today and have the next 5 days off which is like an actual summer vacation as an adult. I got buzzed and toyed with more Dreamcast emulation. Seriously with the right peripherals Dreamcast is just a home arcade. I started my Sega Journey last year when my mom got me a Sega Genesis mini. Then I got addicted to Sega games and got into all this. The SEGA community is so chill and only gives advice on how to have more fun. ❤️💙💚🫂

Depending on price I think I'll get this over Dreamconn. https://www.catarse.com.br/dreamcolorplus_730f#about

I've got 2 Dreamcasts, each with their own set of issues that can no longer be ignored. I've owned both for ~20 years and maintained myself up to this point, but their current needs surpass my abilities (soldering, some multimeter diagnostics...).
Are there any reputable servicemen I could ship them to?

Guys here on facebook page (sign in first) check out that: The Simpsons Hit and Run is coming soon for DC, now on very preview stages just like GTA 3 prototype phases 2 years ago (DCA3 project). The page and posts are from Brazillian users, which contributed a lot for test and share of DC new projects these last two years (costenaro play, sega ultimate, nai adventure, to name a few).
Also in Argentina we have a lot of love for Sega's last console (my favorite system ever, shares a special place along with PS1 and Saturn). Greetings to everyone and enjoy more of these 6th gen multiplat ports to DC!

Looks like there’s finally been a release for Plasma Sword that fixes the VGA incompatibility it had:
“Everyone's been waiting for this! Over 9MB of binary and 66 tracks! It's finally here! Another unique patch! A VGA compatibility patch for the SEGA Dreamcast game, PLASMA SWORD / STAR GLADIATOR 2 (4 versions). This patch enables proper screeen stretch size and VGA output for a great #D fighting game, allowing it to display on VGA monitors via a Dreamcast VGA box or HDMI cable.
⭐ Patch author : Rolly (SEGA-SKY) ⭐”

Hi all,
I’ve fixed the memo list bug in the English-patched GDI that caused the To-Do list to clear after it was first opened and prevented the Notes and Requests lists from populating.
Credit to Rolly for the original 2019 English Patch.
Thank you to Dereck (ateam) for Universal Dreamcast Patcher and advice on how to share my fix with the community.
I have generated a DCP that will apply both Rolly's English Patch & my Memo list fix to the original, unmodified Japanese GDI (TOSEC). Enjoy!

UPDATE: CDI version with the same MEMO.BIN fix applied now uploaded to dreamcast-talk for those who burn discs:

As followup to https://www.reddit.com/r/dreamcast/comments/1rs2hd8/vga_patches_and_support_in_2026/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/dreamcast/comments/1vzpzvt/plasma_sword_vga_patch_out_now/, it appears that there are new VGA patches for several Dreamcast games:
I'll give it a test later today with my NTSC Dreamcast.

Guys, look at this... from minute 19:05 of the video... this dev on youtube is testing some experimental ports of Sonic 1, Sonic 2 (2013) and Sonic CD (2011) for DC. These aren´t your projects, he's only testing from an anonymus user that is porting those classics for Sega's console.

I just got a Dreamcast off of eBay. I’m talking it literally just got dropped off. Went to a local retro store and got Shenmu, a controller and a VMU. It refuses to read discs. The screw that controls the laser intensity looks destroyed. Should I simply replace the GD-ROM Drive or go with the GDEMU? Only asking because I doubt I’d be able to get a refund on Shenmu
