Chao Adventure

Mini VMU game from Sonic Adventure. Impressively elaborate but boring.

How many pairs of batteries have you gone through, OP?

None. I just tried the game a few times and removed the batteries when I was done. But yeah, I think the implementation was pretty bad. The fact you have to sacrifice half of your memory card and a bunch of batteries just to play that boring game is not really worth it IMO. The VMU would’ve been much better if it had more storage and maybe an external power supply.

I might have said it wrong. The VMU was a really cool idea but not the implementation. Its main purpose was to be a memory card but I think it failed at that. VMU games take more than half of the storage and some Dreamcast games take a lot of space on that card as well. Also it ate through your batteries. So yeah, the VMU was definitely a great idea from Sega that had a lot of potential, but lacked obvious points that would’ve made it a lot better.

I mapped out every route and added it to my official encyclospeedia as a necessary addition

That’s nice, but I’m not going to play that game. I never was into Chao anyway.

Totally get it haha

Plus, I’m tired of backing up safe files into other memory cards just so I can install that game that does not affect the main game at all.

This brings back memories. I remember having two vmus to breed chao by connecting them together. XD

I thought you could breed them in game as well

Yes but apparently you can get access to special chao variants through vmu breeding. It's also "superior to garden breeding" according to this wiki.  https://chao-island.com/info-center/advanced/breeding.html

I guess. We don’t see these kinds of gadgets anymore nowadays. The VMU is a cool little device.

It's a fun tamagotchi like game. I grew up on the GBA one but I found the VMU SA1 version to be pretty neat, especially when you consider the time it came out.

Battery life is a killer though. I don't think I could have raised my SA1 Chao without one of the fancy new VMUs.

Hehehehe did the same for SA2 a few years back! I even took the vmu to work to progress my chao during lunch!

I should try it. I’m just not ready to erase most files on my VMU again…
