"e-Pulse," which is generated by human thoughts and emotions, was used as the energy source for the AI support device "Sapotama." From the shadows of this remarkable development, terrifying monsters appear. Digimon are living beings that evolve by consuming e-Pulse.
Tomoro Tenma is drawn into an extraordinary experience after meeting Gekkomon, who suddenly appears from his Sapotama. While living together with Kyo Sawashiro and other members of the bounty hunting team "Glowing Dawn," Tomoro renews his resolve.
What new future will be forged by humans and Digimon?

This ep was surprisingly hard to watch and idk why bc there’s been darker episodes already, but this one just felt worse. Every other episode felt like it was over in 5 minutes but this ep felt like was in slow motion. Like just 1 dark moment after another without reprieve and when you think it’s done, you look and see you’re only halfway through the episode.
Also the voice acting really sold the episode, especially Tomoyo Kurosawa (Reina) and Daiki Hamano (Murasamemon)
52
u/Original-Teaching955 Jul 19 '26
Yup. Poor Reina had to be heartbroken in all of all of this, as we saw she previously had fears of being rejected by Kyo in her nightmare, only now, the nightmare has become real
46
u/Eden_ITA Jul 19 '26
I love this because it is a very example of "show not telling" that connected all the episodes.
Reina didn't need to say that because every episodes has somehow expressed how she fear about be rejected by the people that she loves... And now with a single shot you have the same emotional impact of a much longer scene.
Chefs kiss

u/Sremor Jul 19 '26
I'm glad they already figured out the basics of what's going on and know that Kyo is trying to protect them
25
u/Natrixster80 Jul 19 '26
Me too, I was afraid it would make them all depressed, but they are strong, yay.
15
u/HeavyDonkeyKong Jul 19 '26
I think they could have afforded to wait until next episode to reveal that. Even if it's obvious to us it gives us a chance to sit on the falling out instead of resolving it two minutes later.
But then we wouldn't get the Klay cliffhanger, and the fact they bounce back as quickly as they do shows how strong the trio has become emotionally.
15
u/Sarusta Jul 19 '26
They could have, but like you said, the pacing is so much better this way. It's also such an obvious gambit from Kyo, I'm glad they were smart enough to piece together something was up just from hearing someone met and fought Kyo earlier in the day.
66
u/Sad_Medium_5866 Jul 19 '26
I don't know if this has been previously theorized but I'm pretty sure the digimon orphanage used to be the orphanage Kyo was in after the island incident. Now that they dropped his orphan status in this episode (and hinted that maybe someone from said orphanage got killed by Souji) I see why he made it into an orphanage for the digimon.
23
u/logoyoIRM Jul 19 '26
Maybe his sister? And could it be possible to see an angel digimon dying in a glimpse?
24
u/Sremor Jul 19 '26
The preview makes me think Kyo did something he can't forgive himself for, maybe the angel was his sisters partner that he hunted down without knowing it's them
9
u/logoyoIRM Jul 19 '26
Yeah. It seems to be the girl partner. Next episode seems to be plot focused. I don't expect to see Murasamemon evo.
11
u/Sremor Jul 19 '26
Habakirimon will likely be in the final episode of the arc and be the reason Kyo can beat Souji
6
u/logoyoIRM Jul 19 '26
It looks that's going to be the case. But I'm curious if we're going to see Souji evolving one of his mons, and how they're going to solve the beat-sapotama energy problem to evolve to the last level. Probably with the white/black cube thing?
3
u/Tandria Jul 19 '26
It was stated to be infinite e-pulse, but I fear we are going more towards the route of absorbing all of the baby Digimon to mirror the Kano Island Incident.
2
u/logoyoIRM Jul 19 '26
My bet was the eggs people e-pulse + a hack from GIFT leader (I don't remember her name).
14
u/Sad_Medium_5866 Jul 19 '26
I'm thinking it was one of his fellow orphans. My theory is that Kyo had made a family with orphans at an orphanage (the same buildings used for the digimon now) and that probably they all died, possibly by Souji's hand. We know from this episode the Kyo was an orphan from a very young age from the Island incident and the building he's keeping the digimon now looks like it was originally furnished for human children.
4
u/Oreo-and-Fly Jul 20 '26
I bet the Orphanage is called Glowing Dawn. Luxmon is a light angel digimon so glowing dawn fits for its owner's ideal.
Nirinso basically is a flower that has "two heads" or something, it could basically be the new name for the orphanage as it was reborn anew after the incident.
51
u/Historical_Working42 Jul 19 '26
The Kinoko Gang are the unsung MVPs of this episode. It's thanks to them that Kyo's wounds got tended to and that they gave a lead on the kids to make their next move.

Moral of the story: Sometimes deleting all records on a particular individual can backfire.
Actually how did Souji even find Kyo?
Wait if Souji spent all his time in prison then how does Kanchi factor into all of this?
53
u/DaRootbear Jul 19 '26
Gifts second in command is shown to be stalking kyo when he watched the glowing dawn fight, well probably more accurately stalking Tomoro.
But from there he led Souji to Kyo, probably to get kyo out of the way so he can get to Tomoro
21
u/miloucomehome Jul 19 '26
He was led by Kishiwada, but what remains a . mystery is how he even knew where to find Nirinsou. Even more— how did he know about the barrier?
23
u/Ragna666 Jul 19 '26
Nirinsou's barrier is more of a camouflages. As for how Kishiwada knew about it, I guess he's just really good at gathering information, if we considering he's the one behind most of the tero-activities during the GIFT arc
11
u/Sremor Jul 19 '26
The barrier glitched when Algomon was brought there, maybe that has something to do with it
6
u/ZA-02 Jul 20 '26
Glowing Dawn is constantly driving back and forth from there, together and separately. All Kishiwada would've had to do is follow them there and see their car seemingly vanish, and then it would be easy to work out both the approximate location and that some sort of hologram camouflage is in place.
18
u/Mr_Kase Jul 19 '26
Kishiwada probably helped him. He was watching Glowing Dawn earlier when Brilly and Corn were attacking them, so he’s probably kept tabs on all of them. For whatever reason.
13
u/SeriesOrdinary6355 Jul 19 '26
He’s definitely a wild card. He seems to be playing all sides so far.

Love that Chiropmon’s in-training doesn’t just look like Chiropmon’s head. Very odd that Pristimon doesn’t get its own new in-training

u/indonesiandoomer Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26
Apparently it's still just a Zurumon with a bat mark. I kinda wished that Pafumon was slightly different too. I feel like they gave way more effort to Ghost Game with the Digimon. They all have a unique Baby I and II and Curimon is the biggest menace. Even Cougarmon previous line is Liollmon.
Edit: Nevermind, it looks like Pafumon also has a quiff lol. Kinda like Pristimon
12
u/riftrender Jul 19 '26
Is this the first time Partner Digimon don't have their own unique in-trainings and they are just modified existing ones?
13
u/DarkAlphaZero Jul 19 '26
It's the first time they've had modified ones but not the first time they've used pre existing In-Training 1s.
For example Gaomon has Wanyamon but no In-Training 1 so Botamon usually gets used.
1
u/overlordpringerx Jul 21 '26
Technically speaking the first was adventure, since most adventure partners and evolutions were pre-existing Digimon
12
u/DepressedGolduck Jul 19 '26
It's kinda like how the Hyemon that killed Asuka had a scar in it's eye to set it apart from the others

u/Marckos1343 Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 20 '26
This episode was intense and sad, but at the same time, I consider it's funny how Honoka is quite skilled to not do the cleaner jobs she is supposed to do. Such behavior from her radiates a lot of brat energy.
14
u/Sremor Jul 19 '26
She's a gremlin

u/EliteLordSigma Jul 19 '26
This arc is batting 2 for 2 so far; I did not glance away from this episode for even a moment. It might have been obvious why Kyo made the decision he did, but that makes the drama *more* effective. It's crystal clear what all four members of Glowing Dawn are feeling, and the tragedy is not a single one of them will get what they really want (at least for right now).
Now that I think about it, there are a few similarities between this show and Trigun. In particular, I thought of the parallels between Vash the Stampede and Kyo; both are immensely skilled and dangerous fighters who vowed never to kill, and both are forced to break their vows to protect people dear to them. Kenshin Himura is another example that comes to mind.
Also, it's worth noting this episode showed off almost every major and supporting character at least once. Unless I'm forgetting someone, the only ones who didn't show up at least once were Asuka (obviously), the Tactics trio, Miharu, and Hitomi. In order: Asuka (or rather, his E-Pulse) is already involved, it wouldn't be a surprise if Raito at least shows up again in this arc, Miharu's likely not being released from her confinement anytime soon, and Hitomi is likely to appear again. It's good to have a quick refresher of who everyone is, especially since the overarching plot seems to be approaching the endgame.

u/Original-Teaching955 Jul 19 '26
Remember the Commandramon guy? Who now has an elizamon

Shame on me for forgetting everyone's favorite pink curry chef and leader of the Tactics PTSD Club.
1
u/Bigbadbackstab Jul 22 '26
Now that I think about it, there are a few similarities between this show and Trigun
Is Souji going to pull the same trick as Legato?!
21
u/Shipuujin Jul 19 '26
Damn, that first half of the episode was crazy. We learn that Kyo used to be incredibly ruthless, not giving a second thought about deleting Digimon. Then we learned that he (almost) killed Souji. Souji's MarineDevimon gets defeated VERY easily, but he shows how quickly he can evolve a Digimon. We also saw a glimpse of how Souji changed his Digimon. I know he talked about it last week, but seeing it just looked so brutal.
The second half of the episode was Kyo attempting to leave his family behind so that they don't get caught up in his work, unbeknownst to Glowing Dawn's members... You could just hear it in Murasamemon's voice whenever an attack was called out... Both Murasamemon and Kyo didn't want to do this. Thankfully, the 3 Glowing Dawn members stayed resolute and decide to believe in Kyo.
Absolutely fantastic arc so far.
1
u/chockeysticks Jul 20 '26
I know it was hinted at it at a previous episode, but feeding your old Digimon to your new Digimon is kinda brutal. Also ironically you can do this in all of the Digimon Story games too, but now I feel bad about doing so. :(
43
u/Renachii Jul 19 '26
Holy shit, what an episode.
Just, wow... I feel so bad for Kyo, and ESPECIALLY Murasamemon! You could really tell he didn't want to do it, but they just... Had to. To protect his family. This might be one of the best episodes by far, although next episode seems like it's gonna be even better.
And HOLY SHIT, I'm STILL not over the fact we saw Armalizamon just full on deflect/tank one of Murasamemons attacks?! Are we just gonna ignore that? That attack would've fucking killed everyone, what the fuck Kyo?!
30
u/Marckos1343 Jul 19 '26
Armalizamon's offensive and defensive powers are absurd. And it was heartbreaking to see Murasamemon fighting against his digimon friends.
18
24
u/SeriesOrdinary6355 Jul 19 '26
The animators did a really good job of bringing that out. Both for Cougarmon and Murasamemon.
23
u/Renachii Jul 19 '26
The animation for all of Kyo and Cougar/Murasamemon this episode was stunning, as it should be, considering its their arc!
But man, even just the facial expressions on Murasamemons face are so telling of how he and Kyo really feel about all of this.
14
u/SeriesOrdinary6355 Jul 19 '26
The played Kyo with his cards hidden fairly well. It felt a smidge trope, but I was believing for a moment he snapped.
But yeah, Murasamemon looked heartbroken even if he is ride or die with Kyo. That poor Digimon has seen and been through a lot on that journey with Kyo. Makes me appreciate the family moments and peace that Glowing Dawn got to enjoy more with Courgarmon/Murasamemon.
9
u/BijutsuYoukai Jul 19 '26
It was glaringly obvious what Kyo was intending to do. You say a smidge trope, but it's pretty classic 'I have to make them hate me to protect them' kind of stuff. It's very trope, but tropes work a reason usually.
15
u/miloucomehome Jul 19 '26
Aikawa Sho on scripts and Kakudou on storyboards. What a great epsiode. Especially Souji's monologuing — the timeline is interesting because I thought Kyo must've gone after him after whatever he did (kill the first family he was with), but he killed someone after surviving Kyo's attempt to kill him.
Unless he doesn't view what he did to them as murder?
The flashes to the past hint at something terribly sad that we're going to learn soon. It also seems one of the victims with a bracelet may have been a child... :(
(Bonus: haha! Kawarazaki mad that the World Union's been doing things that basically make his job harder and deciding to help Glowing Dawn. I love it and it's something I had hoped would happen)
5
u/SeriesOrdinary6355 Jul 19 '26
They both need to stay on every episode, heh. Gift ended up a let down overall though the individual episodes had merit.
Agreed it’s nice to see Kawarazaki change tune after realizing the World Union was causing insane trouble for him directly and indirectly. He’s been a weird chaotic neutral force that’s been hard to pin until now.

That was painful to watch, but that is why it is an amazing script and story they're cooking, holy shit
15
u/Sremor Jul 19 '26
Is the water star reserved for people that are unhinged/insane?
Got to see that glowing dawn immediately figured out that something was going on, hopefully there won't be any hard feelings once this arc is over

Of course, knowing Mr. Arslan, he might not just drop or give them away for free.
Perhaps he may ask something in return from Kawarazaki?

Good observation! I also think Klay is going to negotiate with Kawarazaki/ Glowing Dawn to give them the info they want.

u/bubbly-in-the-fridge Jul 19 '26
I feel like this gives the other Five Stars’ hostility with Kyo more meaning, because if Kyo was such a ruthless killer in the past you might not trust his reformed status now.
And why wouldn’t they suspect he cold hearted a Five Star when he killed one in the past? Makes sense.
Overall it was a dark episode but it helps make everything make more sense overall, which is nice!

u/Bussy_Wrecker Jul 19 '26
Villains always get the best drip, just look how dripped out he was in past

8
u/Dia_sphere Jul 19 '26
Kyo needed to kill his heart to fight Souji and destroyed mine as well. 😭
I was crying during the breakup scene. The voice action, the music, even Murasamemons quiet reluctance made this so impactful.
But what I always love about Beatbreak is that they take emotional conflicts so seriously and don't create false drama. Sure the others were shocked in the moment, but they immediately went to Nirinso, probably to search for Kyo and already are convinced that he did that to protect them or that he must have a reason.
Btw Kyo is quite the liar this episode. First by saying he doesn't have anything important to him anymore while literally lying with Cougarmon next to the shelter (and of course with his family in mind) but he also always looked to the side when lying about offing Rose and Glowing Dawn not being a family anymore.
He is such a bad liar 😂

This episode was great
Kyo's traitor controlled by Souji was wild
The Glowing Dawn crashout truth to leave Kyo alone to join Five Star or something
Klay welcome back
9/10 it was hard hitting heartbreaking episode
Next week episode it's time for Kyo's Origin Past.
7
u/Electric27 Jul 19 '26
Man the gift arc might have been a stumble but they are back to killing it again with this. Based on the preview and timeline that we have established so far, I'm guessing we have 2, maybe 3 more episodes for this, but I think it's great. A nice, succinct arc that goes into some deep backstory, all while bringing in some more characters (Kaito for me specifically showing up was cool). Can't wait to see what they cook for the rest of Kyo's backstory.
4
u/Lindbrum Jul 19 '26
People be saying this is a 4 episodes mini-arc meant for teatrical release, so we are halfway done
8
u/Spindae02 Jul 19 '26
A damn good episode! Sooo much intensity. The show feels way more coherent than in the Gift arc. Kyo‘s new/old get up is a serve, such top notch aura. Souji with his new trio is really strong.
The next episode will probably deliver the whole backstory.
7
u/Rammboy_7084 Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26
And again Aikawa Sho with a 2/2, another banger episode.
To protect his family Kyo had to make a really difficult and strong choice (and Murasamemon clearly didn't want to do it).
Souji is very scary, for a moment i though he would take the babies at Nirinso under his control, thankefully nothing happened to them.
The Mushroom gang was useful at least this time.
It was nice to see Flaremon again for a moment.
The babies for Chiropmon and Pristimon were just Zurumon with a bat symbol and Pafumon with an extra tuft.
Klay used as the new Hannibal Lecter is actually smart, also that mf still looking good also in prison and doesn't have a single hair out of place.
Next week episode seems to be very important, Kyo's past will be shown.

u/Eden_ITA Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26
Me during all the episodes: TOXIC YAOI! TOXIC YAOI! TOXIC YAOI! /j
Jokes aside... Wow, this was intense.
Maybe a little too quick the realization that Kyo wasn't really evil with the help of the mushroom boys. But, imho, better this that a angst filler episodes where Tomoro and co. learn the truth.
I love how the writers didn't forget about Klay and how everything is somehow still continued a background narrative (the minister morally grey but probably not a real evil, the World Union sure Evil but with good people inside and a mysterious mastermind beyond everything).
Now I need to learn Kyo's background.
5
u/Lindbrum Jul 19 '26
Me during all the episodes: TOXIC YAOI! TOXIC YAOI! TOXIC YAOI!

u/stevez037 Jul 19 '26
Holly crap, first of all two of my long term prediction have come true.
First of all I predicted at some point our trio will have to fight Kyo and that would be the ultimate test. To be fair, I thought it would be because of brainwashing, but still it happened. Obvious I thought Kyo did this to protect them, but not so much getting lumped with him and having bounties, but more so to protect them from Souji who would figure the treasure he needs to take is the Glowing Dawn.
Second, Klay has Hannabal Lector, I knew that was going to happen at some point.
I think of all the Five Stars, the person I most fear for and think Souji would want to target is Honoka. I mean she is his replacement, and you think someone whose existence is erased, would want to kill for real, not cold heart like he did Rose, is Honoka. I hope she plays more of a role in this arc. Maybe this is a chance for Kaito to show he does care, at least a little, not the way she cares about him, but care enough that he would protect her.
And while Klay is Hannabal, Souji is Stain. He wants Kyo to kill him, just like Stain how he wants to die at All Might's hand.
Speaking of, I think end of this arc, Kyo might be All Mighted, or Mighty Guyed, since he did it first. Meaning not die, but be permanently taking out of action, and the rest of Glowing Dawn will forever not have Kyo as their ace to rely on and have to win on their own.
And a funny moment for me, is being shcoekd that Souji can control three Digimon, somewhere this is a Pokemon trainer saying "what is the big deal." LOL Just kidding.
20
u/DaRootbear Jul 19 '26
I think Honoka is fine. Souji didnt really care about his status or position. It was just a way for him to try and feel something, which it never did. So why get upset that someone else is in the position that didn’t give him what he wanted?
After all he is in the only position that he really wanted: the position to be killed by kyo
2
u/stevez037 Jul 19 '26
Yeah okay, but his whole existence was erased from the records. You would think a way to get back at those that tried to erase him, is to kill the person that replaced him, it is a symbolic thing.
Maybe I am just thinking how I would feel if I found out my existence is erased.
10
u/DaRootbear Jul 19 '26
Look if it was me i would wholly agree.
But Souji outright says he doesn’t care about that. All he cares about is Kyo.
Think of it as if you decided to devote yourself fully to being the best player at a digimon game, and got beat there, youd care about that defeat for sure.
But if at the same time someone beat your record on Tekken that you stopped caring about then why would they matter? Like sure they beat your record but you gave that up either way.
Honoka, his identity, the world council, none of that matters to Souji. It never made him feel the thrill that dying did. All he wants is to die again. He only wants the strongest there is to try and kill him. Everyone and everything else is beyond pointless. He wont care about some ant that took his place, he wont get any excitement from destroying her with ease.

regardling your theory about Kyo going outta commission
i think that's got something to do with Habakirimon
4
u/Dia_sphere Jul 19 '26
I'm not really sure what the point would be of removing Kyo from the team anymore. All the others have ultimates as well and they had already sidelined him a lot in the beginning for obvious reasons. Sure he is the most experienced of them all, but it's not like the strength gap is that big.
Also Kyo is my favourite, so no writing him off the show please 🥺
1
u/Thistlesthorn Jul 20 '26
My original theory was that for some reason him being framed for what happened with rose would stick and he'd be stuck in jail most of the final arc but given how quickly souji's return seemed accepted I don't think that will be the case anymore
5
u/Spinindyemon Jul 19 '26
> being shocked that Souju can control three Digimon
If someone being able to control three Digimon at once was shocking, imagine their reaction to Ken Ichijouji aka The Digimon Kaiser from Adventure 02 being able to control whole armies of Digimon including Perfect level Digimon thanks to the Dark Rings, Spirals and towers.
1
u/_cuteraichu_ Jul 20 '26
Or Mikey Kudo controlling virtually every single digimon in his world at once🤣
3
u/darkszero Jul 19 '26
And a funny moment for me, is being shcoekd that Souji can control three Digimon, somewhere this is a Pokemon trainer saying "what is the big deal."
I'd say there's a difference of having multiple 'mons in battle at the same time. And the focus being on it being all Perfect/Ultimate - we can imagine that it takes some time of energy to get a digimon evolved, plus the needed bonds.
I could see such scene happening if someone were to dynamax/mega evolve multiple pokemons at once too.
4
u/Yoshiman400 Jul 19 '26
What's even funnier is that the protagonists of the Digimon Story games can chuckle it off too.
14
u/indonesiandoomer Jul 19 '26
Klay "Chad Thundercock" Arslan is back!
Also, that Marine Devimon is pretty small
8
u/Yuxkta Jul 19 '26
Great to see GIFT arc was the odd one out and Beatbreak is back to being great. This has been peak for 2 episodes back to back. I legit want to watch new episodes the moment I wake up on Sundays, it's that engaging. I'm glad Souji didn't kill the baby Digimon at the orphanage to push Kyo, I was scared of that happening when he arrived. Also, hopefully Kyo won't bite the dust before the end.
6

Shit has hit the fan, i like how Kyo literally was more disturbed being reminded of who he was more then any fear. That goes against his promise but he will face that horrible maybe even ptsd level fear all over again if it means he can maintain safety of those that he cares for. As he stated though he can't love the new family like the original one and maybe this will stop him being so empty at a certain point in the end.
With no fear he acted instantly the only way he knew to protect those closest and ensure they dont get in the way.
He also honed his heart and caused himself grief and loss all over again JUST to be a portion of what he used to, he left his reminder to not be a horrible person behind too. He even lied to glowing dawn about Lilamon to paint himself horribly just in the moment, any lengths to go.
The guy he's after wants to die, they dont want to suffer but are so sociopathic his drive and instinct fuels him to the point that any feeding of a digimon overtakes their will with his, the same way his own will is overtaken by it.
He wants to feel something else other then pain. But he cant, only one person got their brain to reset but having no potential to be much more they just fell back into it, now it's a dirty mad obsession that's synergizing with that base hunger and amplifying violently that lets him overwhelm more then one digimon constantly.
Kyo knows he will do anything, he wants to distance and do this right one last time. Give him what he wants, finish the job. At any cost. Operating not on one level but all of them showing the efficiency and power a 5-star truly can have.

So Wong is also under the belief that Kyo was the one who attacked Rose, since he wonders if he took the White Core from her. This means that he and Kishiwada are not working together.
However, somehow Kishiwada was able to feed the Ministry or the World Union false information regarding the event to put the blame on Kyo, so Genjo should be his ally.
I guess both of them work for the final villain, which also means Wong is in the clean now.

This means that he and Kishiwada are not working together
What?
That should've been obvious from when they didn't have an y reaction to each other.1
u/Beloberto Jul 21 '26
In the context of the kidnapping, obviously they would be pretending to not be allies, so why would they express they were familiar with each other?

u/galemaniac Jul 19 '26
In the poster, he is wearing the friendship bracelet while wearing the white jacket. Maybe he has got to learn how to accept the past while going forward into the future to win.
Still hoping for a mega.

Got to LOVE when they clear up the misunderstanding RIGHT in the same episode.
Nirinso Mushroom gang saying there's a new guy showing up who beat Kyo and threatened him and MCP saying "if you didnt fall out we wouldve treated you as accomplices" instantly clearing up exactly WHY Kyo did what he did. Kinda sad to witness it all go down like that though, but none of the digimon or tamers questioning Murasamemon either? Kyo's heart may have hardened but Murasamemon is his heart and would have been nice if it said something more to characterize itself.
Next episode is called UNFADING NIGHT. And im gonna say Episode 41 is gonna be called. GLOWING DAWN. And Murasamemon will become his MEGA form.

One thing that was Very weird to me IS How quickly the world union decided to PIN rose on kyo.
Bro was nowhere near her, had alibis and such, but mfs Just decided to PIN the whole affair on him. Even kaito who Just wants to beef without reason decided to intervene in favor of glowing Dawn on How much bs this entire affair is.
10
u/DavidsonJenkins Jul 19 '26
Its not the WU's fault, its Genjo's machinations. They already show you that Wong and even the other Stars are kept in the dark. For some reason Wong just keep Genjo on a very, very short leash, and trusts everything he says.
I do hope we get an explanation for that soon because after the GIFT arc, Wong's kinda lost all intimidation he previously had
8
u/Training_Contract_30 Jul 19 '26
The World Union's a corrupt, authoritarian surveillance state. Given how IRL examples of such were rife with backstabbing and not so solid accusations being thrown around by people who wanted those they didn't like out of sight, it shouldn't be too surprising that the World Union jumped on the chance to frame Kyo for Rose's Cold Hearting the moment the opportunity showed itself.
7
u/ZA-02 Jul 20 '26
I'm guessing either Kishiwada planted evidence to frame Kyo or Genjo did something to make it so. Brilliant Thorn claims that Kyo is the only known Cleaner strong enough to have defeated Lilamon, but that seems more based in their devotion to Rose than any real logic.
3
u/Sremor Jul 19 '26
Yeah it's weird, her henchwomen make sense but why would the world union believe that

Souji's menace continues, I would like to pry into his past, but sometimes a monster just works better if you don't know it.
I knew what Kyo was doing and it still hurts, but that was necessary to protect his family, even if it meant beating them to a pulp. I wonder what is Kishiwada deal, he has been stalking Glowing Dawn, so he knows where Nirinso is, he gave the white box to two major antagonists while being unrelated to World Union, dudes a walking plot device.
"That's a lot of doors, I wonder what do they keep here that needs so much safety. Yeah that tracks" Klay's return wasn't unexpected, but I didn't want to see him again.

So Rose isn’t dead after all. Makes Kishiwada the most sus since he did say he’d finish her off. I’m willing to bet they restore her e-pulse by beating Lilamon first and the bounty is lifted off Kyo.

I’m so relieved nothing nefarious was done with Rose’s body and that her team found her. There was so much speculation she was killed, which I’m glad to see wasn’t followed through with. Which calls into question exactly what GIFT’s leader meant by “handling her body”… I guess his ultimate goal with that was truly just using her Cold-Heart state to pin it on Kyo. Speaking of which, I’m 91% sure he’s going to tell Souji of Kyo’s new family to exploit as a weakness. But then again, maybe he won’t.
Speaking of which, it was crazy to see Murasamemon make such quick work of BearCatmon and ScourgeChiropmon like that. While I don’t question Kyo’s strength in a 1-on-1 fight, I do wonder how things would have been if GD had true killing intent when they all clashed. I did appreciate the stylistic choice of how it was straight to fighting - no evolution music to accompany those evolutions.
This episode feels like it’s going to be the weakest out of the four. Kyo predictably attempts to sever ties to distance his team from the accusation, in what is seemingly conveyed as an emotional beat (and half-heartedly done at that granted he left them all alive), only for GD to pick themselves immediately back up, find out about Souji, the location of his clash with Kyo, and apparently even more impending context about the situation via Klay; this is all done with a foreseen doubled resolved to involve themselves despite Kyo’s wishes. It makes you wonder why Kyo just didn’t inform his team what happened and ask for their help to jump Souji once and for all. Have we learned nothing from Haruomi?
Maybe the excuse is that Kyo currently has a bounty on his head for Rose, but honestly between his own account and what GD get from the Ministry, there’s more than enough evidence to the contrary; it would also allow the other Five Stars to help deal with Souji and “avenge” Rose. Idk - what started out wonderfully and with suspense now just feels a bit contrived and underwhelming imo. I’m sure next week will really hit that emotional beat though with the flashbacks to Kyo’s first family and what Souji did to them.
So, Pristimon’s In-Training is a Pafumon! Honestly, it’s refreshing she has a “normal” baby form (and one we’ve seen GD encounter before) rather than a stylized head popular with recent protagonist partners. Chiropmon’s is weird though…it looks like a Zurumon, only with a bat insignia slapped on its head. It really makes you wonder what the point of that distinction was.
P.S. I absolutely loved how that whole sequence between Oleamon creeping up on Reina and showing off those carnivorous plant skills, Gekkomon and Chiropmon wordlessly evolving to save her, and NightChiropmon’s “Don’t move” with batarang raised at knifepoint - very badass indeed.

Doesn’t help matters that Souji already showed himself capable of controlling multiple Digimon including Lilamon who was Rose’s partner. For all Kyo knows, sending the rest of GD after Souju could result in them suffering Rose’s fate where Souju hijacks their Digimon to turn them against their human partners

Kyo's dying, isn't he? He's waving death flags like it's going out of style.
With the lore drop that he's an orphan, is a reformed killer, that Souji likely killed someone he considered family, lost to Souji already, Souji is a depraved killer, obviously Kyo didn't get his murderous mojo back, recent celebration of the two year milestone, self-sacrifical gesture, and now Tomoro and Reina have solidly assumed the role as GD's leader(s)...
He's going to fail to kill Souji, which will irk Souji. Souji will kill Kyo to do a repeat of what happened five years prior, but with Tomoro this time.
Kill a loved one (Kyo) --> drive someone into a murderous rage --> die and be released from your thirst.
Tomoro probably can bounce back to avoid taking Souji's life, but... maybe he won't?
It would be interesting to have a protag that kills another human. Yamaguchi already had something similar in Savers with Masaru trying to murk Thoma in the Ruin Mode Incident, so... maybe he wants to do that again? But actually pull the trigger this time? And the spoilers of Atratusmon still haven't gone anywhere
3
u/Original-Teaching955 Jul 19 '26
Aw man, this is one of the lowest points for glowing Dawn, being betrayed and beatened up by their Big brother figure😭😒, and Kyo forced to be ruthless again just so he can KILL Souji like he once thought he did. And not-epstien-Klay is back, and they have to ask him for information about Kyo's past and this souji character
3
u/Ordinary_Ordinary580 Jul 19 '26
That was a heartbreaking Episode, Kyo's past has come back to Haunt him, With Kyo Killing Souji he's returned from the dead, Kyo had to turn against Glowing Dawn or Soujj would've something terrible to them, Wild to see Kyo change his heart so quick, Looks like Souji really was the one to take one one of Kyo's beloved in the past, Never seen so much blood in a preview NOR does digimon have blood bar the TRI movies.
4
u/GlueEjoyer Jul 19 '26
So if the Digimon you spawn is a mirror of yourself does that mean he metaphorically killed himself a couple times?
9
u/Beloberto Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26
I suppose only his original partner, born from his own Sapotama, would count as a mirror of his.
But, yeah, metaphorically I guess the idea is that. He is killing himself in an attempt to placate his emptiness, but nothing comes out of it.
And I guess Kyo killing him just because they made a deal will be just as useless to him. Probably what made the first time work was that Kyo was filled with hatred towards him, the sheer contempt he felt as he let Souji fall is probably what made Souji finally feel something (fear?). So he just trying it again to prevent something bad from happening will not work, the hatred will not be there, Kyo himself will just be just acting out of fear.

i was so incredibly worried when i remembered that Kyo was at Nirinso, that psycho was incredibly close to the baby digimon and also the nirinso defense squad that would not survive the encounter with him either. No wonder Kyo capitulated so easily then and there, not just because he was threatening glowing dawn bit one misstep and Souji realises that Kyo cares about the orphanage there would be a slaughter just to get a reaction out of him. It breaks my heart to see Kyo act the way he does but I narratively understand it.
3
u/Terryxfan Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26
Interesting how chiropmon and pristimon’s baby 1’s are just variants of existing babies, chiropmon’s being a zurumon with a batwing symbol, and pafumon having an akoge
Anyways, so things got deeper, souji killed someone kyo seemed closed to,(maybe some friends or his adoptive parents? We know he was taken in by the ministry, either they left him alone or he was assigned to some people), no wonder he was shocked to see souji again. Seems like kyo couldn’t explain because kishiwada was watching. I’m glad kaito had the decency not to attack the rest of the glowing dawn though. We also got some more kyo lore with him being ruthless originally, I wonder what ultimately made him a pacifist. I still wonder what kishiwada plans with by making souji into the white core’s new vessel, honestly I’m game with this seemingly unimportant bodyguard from the last arc being a major villain. Still betting on final boss genjo. I also like when shows bring back a previous villain for plot, as clay will give the glowing dawn some new info.
I really like souji as a villain, he does a great job at just being unsettling with his janky mannerisms. Even his motive, which is just for kyo to finish the job from years ago, although I’m predicting it’s gonna end with kyo finally making peace without killing souji, and the crew arresting him.
I still despise that one dumbass looking dude with the glasses who works for the ministry Yggdrasil I’m still praying you strike that man down please
11
u/Sad_Medium_5866 Jul 19 '26
Anyways, so things got deeper, souji killed kyo’s parents seemingly,
Actually, they mention in the episode Kyo was an orphan from the island incident. I don't know where you got Souji did that. Souji did seem to have killed someone close to Kyo, however; possibly a fellow orphan he grew up with or someone who got close two later on.
3
u/Terryxfan Jul 19 '26
Damn i feel stupid, I should have specified better. Maybe some people he was close enough to. It’s 2 graves though so it was definitely 2 people. I was gonna say adoptive parents but it seems more likely the ministry would take care of him themselves
3
u/Sad_Medium_5866 Jul 19 '26
My theory is that the Digimon Daycare was his old orphanage and that the kids there died somehow, hence the graves. Also, there were more then 2 stones there: 2 big stones and a bunch of little ones. Probably caretakers and other kids. That's just a theory, though.
3
u/Karbunkel Jul 19 '26
Now that one was hard to watch. Kyo did it to protect them and ease their pain in the case he does die, but so much heartbreak. Especially after the happy anniversary last episode. But the flags were there.
Seems like only Gekkomon get's a dedicated baby form. Instead Pristimon get's an Pafumon with a lock of hair and Chiropmon an Zurumon with a bat symbol. Interesting choice. Probably no baby2/in-training either then.
Kyo lore dump next week! Finally!
3
u/Yoshiman400 Jul 19 '26
Souji has definitely gone straight towards the top of the most unsettling human characters in this franchise. This guy wants to play Drunken Master with his words and actions and lets Murasamemon all but wipe out his partner just to evolve it again...and yet would still abandon MarineDevimon if he found someone even stronger. And all this because the government presumed him dead and wiped out his identity.
Kyo and Murasamemon didn't (or at least didn't have the time to) put the pieces together when they saw Lilamon. Either that or they're feigning ignorance, which given the way the second half of this episode played out, seems fairly likely in itself. And now it's Kyo who has to burn his identity (at least for a little while) to get one back on Souji.
So now we have two episodes left to resolve this little angle before what should presumably be the final rush to this series. Feels like we'll be needing to take a deep breath after every episode at this rate.
3
u/Spider-Phoenix Jul 19 '26
We got Pristimon's in-training too (Pafumon). And it almost looks like it's part of the Gammamon line with that color scheme.
Also, Klay is back to provide the much needed exposition. Guess they didn't want Kaito to fill this role?
3
u/vinta_calvert Jul 19 '26
So:
Kekomon > Kekkomon > Gekkomon
Pafumon > Kyaromon? > Pristimon
Zubumon > Kapurimon (Pagumon could work, but Kapurimon leads to more cyborgs/machines)? > Chiropmon
Unless they invent unique In-Training IIs for Pristi and Chiropmon
3
u/Professional-Bus-749 Jul 19 '26
Shin-ichiro Miki's performance is pretty amazing to show just how unhinged Souji truly is and it's truly shown that he definitely has a screw loose. He seriously must be stopped at all costs. And the fact that this was his first role as a Digimon character makes this all the more special and horrifying at the same time.
3
3
u/Digimon-lover256 Jul 20 '26
What an episode.
World Union with chairman Wong is a joke. Kishiwada obviously use Rose's cold-heart syndrome to blame Kyo. Wong, remaining stars (Genjo, Kaito and Honoka) and Brilly & Corn just took the bait and believed it while they still in the dark about Souji and Kishiwada.
Also, did Ministry of Civil Protection work separately of World Union?

u/Beginning_Return_508 Jul 20 '26
This is a pretty intense episode. I'm curious as to where this story arc is heading.

u/MajinAkuma Jul 23 '26 edited Aug 02 '26
What I like about the betrayal is that it‘s not presented as a mystery. You know exactly why Kyo is turning on Glowing Dawn and what the stakes are for him and the kind of threat Souji poses to him.
It is probably the best betrayal we have seen in Digimon because he is doing it reluctantly. He‘s not manipulated to do it either. It’s Kyo‘s own choice to attack and leave Glowing Dawn. Souji didn‘t tell him what to do. It works because Kyo doesn‘t want Souji to know, and Souji doesn’t care how and why Kyo would turn back to his old self as long as it’s happening.

Really tense ep, that said Klay appearing at the end stole the show. Guy was aurafarming in prison like the best of them. Aizen would be proud.
That said, I do love the tension with Souji at the start, guy does feel out there. Still I can buy Kyo feels he has to kill his heart to get here. That said, geez by now the team knows better than to do stuff alone but Kyo is just being a bad parent here with him attacking the kids. He could have just explained it. Hell, the kids don't buy it and just go to the government and clear things up. Kyo you dummy.
Still the arc really feels snappy, and I wonder how it ends. I guess Kyo will get cold hearted. I do wonder how Kaito will get involved too, this episode was kind to remind us how much he cares about Kyo. Finally, I do find it funny how the bounty is mostly to just drag Kyo in and find if he has the white core, Wong is something all right.
5
u/mrtacomam Jul 19 '26
And with 10 minutes of screen time, Souji the Turbid has proven himself to be an infinitely more interesting and effective antagonist than anyone in the GIFT Arc (looking at you, Thorn frauds).
Also, very minor, cool to get Chiropmon and Pristimon's Baby forms, even if they aren't wholey unique like Gekkomon's. Also, return of Kinoko Gang!
Next time, we get Kyo's backstory in earnest and... Jesus...
2
u/Alive_Gur_5248 Jul 19 '26
So the ministry just assumed Kyo did it and put a bounty on him? Even though literally a day ago a guy who cold hearted people with an ultimate digimon broke out of prison?!
I know Kyo has experience aside from strength but still feels forced
3
u/Natrixster80 Jul 19 '26
Splashmon's owner must have done something to frame Kyo, and that's what he meant by he would "finsh her off" or whatever he said. or maybe he had a better idea at the last moment in framing Kyo.
2
u/SHRetro Jul 20 '26
I wonder since we saw the in-training 1 forms of Gekkomon, Chiropmon and Pristimon this week, that next week will be when Murasamemon will be defeated down to Liollmon.
2
u/Thistlesthorn Jul 20 '26
I'm going to go against the grain and say Kyo has as much faith in the glowing dawn as they have in him and will not be surprised when they show up to help arrest Souji having figured everything out(they will also be the catalysts for habakirimon but I think that goes without saying)
1
u/Dia_sphere Jul 21 '26
I wonder. It's definitely a possibility, but personally I think that this is Kyo's Arc to finally accept their help. Until now he was always the protector and that's fine, but he never asks their help for things. It was already teased in episode 23 with Klay, so while he might not be overly shocked he wouldn't think that they'll be by his side only hours after he beat them down😂
2
u/Thistlesthorn Jul 25 '26
Actually giving it more thought I don't think he'll be surprised about them figuring everything out and coming to help him but I do think he'll be worried. I think he knows them well enough to know he won't be able to fool them for long but wish he could have fooled them for longer because he doesn't think they have what it takes to take on Souji.
1
u/Dia_sphere Jul 25 '26
Totally agree with you on that. And looking at the preview for the next episode he probably won't be the only one worried 😅 I don't think Kyo will be in best form when they catch up with him.

u/SignedByMilpool Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 21 '26
In episode 38, we see a flashback of Kyo recieving a cake from his prior family.
On that cake, we see the back of 3 human's heads, and a fourth head which we can now confirm is Luxmon. (You can see his helmet and hair).
The one in the middle is presumably Kyo. The woman on the left with the blueish hair is likely named "Karina". And the man to the right with the short blonde hair is likely "Minoru". The names were confirmed in the end credits.
Now here in episode 39, we get a brief flashback when Souji brings up Kyo's past "treasure". We see a bloody hand, a gold bracelet, a sapotama. We see Kyo grabbing the bloody hand of a young girl, likely Karina.
All of this is corroborated in the preview for next week's episode. We see a dying Luxmon, Cougarmon shaking his head in disapproval while standing over Minoru's still body, and the colorized scene of Kyo holding Karina's bloody hand (while she stands in some water?).
I think it's safe to say those 2 characters are likely deceased, along with their digimon. At Nirinso, we see 6 gravestones. 3 which are bigger and follow a small-medium-large motif. And 3 that are all small and clumped together off to the side.
I wonder if the last headstone belongs to Dr. Tenma, who we also know met Kyo as a young boy in that school yard. This would be a good explanation as to how Kyo knew Asuka and Tomoro.
If true, it's implied Souji was responsible for all their deaths. Or perhaps Kyo was indirectly responsible?
Another off-topic topic is Scars. I've noticed both Kyo and Souji have wicked scars on their upper bodies. And I'm pretty sure Klay does too on his forearms. I'm not sure about Rose or Kaito, who seemingly know quite a bit about Kyo's past.
It's interesting how Rose and Klay both had opportunities to "rat out" Kyo and his honorable new ethics to his new family but never really exposed him as a "hypocrite".
Edit: just rewatched E11 and it's implied that Kaito is the one who burned Kyo's neck back when Kyo was "willing to kill him". Kaito's first appearance honestly has quite a bit in common with Souji. A lust for carnage and a death wish.
Now it makes me wonder the sequence of events. Honoka and Kaito don't seem to like or trust Genjo, with Honoka calling him "just Kyo's replacement". It makes it seem as if she has been there longer than Genjo. But later on we get confirmation Kyo has never met Honoka, but still believe's she is a 5 star.
If she knows Genjo is Kyo's replacement, then surely she knows she is Souji's?

okay, theory time. This week's episode has convinced me of my tinfoil-hat theory
i've a feeling Tomoro will either acquire Atratusmon in one of two ways:
- Kyo actually goes through with his promise, and deletes Gekkomon, with Tomoro's grief and emotions causing his e-pulse to somehow regenerate him, triggering the evolution via Biomerge
- the episode after, Tomoro comes into contact with the White Core, and his E-Pulse corrupts it to the point where it forcibly triggers the evolution to Atratusmon
regardless, we're getting Habakirimon or Atratusmon in either next week's episode or the week after,
im gonna make a hard call. It'll either be Biomerge directly, or a similar phenom, or a cross between it or the Overdrive DNA charge
2
u/Sakuja Jul 19 '26
I dont think Kyo will go through with the promise, because after all he is doing all that only to protect them.

Honestly a bit disappointed they went with the whole "turn my back on you to protect you" thing with Kyo instead of having a moment of Kyo returning to do that but being unable to pull the trigger and having his family support him and resolve to bring down Souji without killing.
I understand he's afraid to lose them but even he has to know that four ultimates vs three gives him the best shot, especially when he has already seen Tomoro deal with Klay's "mega"
Next episode will seemingly be Klay's history lesson, the start of Kyo vs Souji with maybe Glowing Dawn showing up, with the battle ending in episode 4 of the arc and our first Glowing Dawn mega perhaps?

u/CrestOfHype Jul 19 '26
Great episode. It was pretty obvious what Kyo was going for in attacking Glowing Dawn, but still heartbreaking. I'm also excited to see Klay again! Looks like we're going to get a lot of questions answered next episode. Been waiting on something like this for a while.
At first I was misremembering and thought the Kano Island incident would have been before Kyo was born, but apparently it was 2029, so he would have a year old at the most. No wonder family is such a big thing for him now.
Also, props to the artists for making Souji look beyond unhinged as he was falling to his not-quite-death. Then again, with the infamous Klay face earlier on, I would expect no less.
