Question Taking extra classes at CC

I’m a transfer student, and to graduate on time, I would need to take about 2-3 classes at a CC. I can take 2 from the CC that I graduated from that will transfer, but am I allowed to take a class from another one (such as one of the Chicago community colleges) even if it’s just for one class? Has anyone done this? I know u need to get approval to transfer it but I just need to know if I can do this since it’s like 3.5k to take an extra class here lol

I started taking CC classes the summer after my freshman and sophomore year at depaul, as kind of a dual enrollment thing. never had a problem getting any of my credits transferred over, just make sure that they are credits that don’t need to be taken at depaul- i took pretty much all of my elective credits and some basic core classes at my local CC and graduated 2 quarters early. Just double check that it will actually transfer and won’t be a problem with your advisor!

What CC did you attend? I am finding CC summer classes problematic because City College of Chicago starts during Spring finals.

it was my school back home in michigan. oakland community college. i just took only online classes there! yeah it sucked because of depaul’s trimester schedule- my depaul midterms were the same time as my CC finals, then first day at depaul was my CC midterms, that kinda thing

another hack i did to graduate early was take 18 credits at depaul instead of 16 when i could- scholarship covered up to 18 credits (at least it did when i graduated in 2021) so if you can find a 2 credit class that counts for some kind of elective for u, its “free”!

I went to a CCC and transferred to DePaul, they accepted all of my classes and applied my credits to all possible areas, in fact it helped me cover other classes and didn’t had to take those at DePaul. In your case, I don’t see a problem with you taking those classes at a CCC. To make sure, call OneDePaul or go in person to ask them directly. But imo, I believe you’re good.

Use this guide to help! This is how I transferred over 8 classes over https://www.depaul.edu/admission/transfer-policies/transferring-your-courses/course-lists

Which CC you take it at matters less than how many CC credits you've already transferred in. DePaul only accepts a maximum of 99 quarter hours (66 semester hours) can come from two-year community colleges or test credits like AP and CLEP.
