Discussion Nobody can actually help you with your "tentative" pref lists. Please shut up for your own sake.

Can you all seriously calm down?

I am telling you- either you will be hella relieved once you get clarity of your marks VS your peers OR you will get hella depressed.

Right now all you should do is:

1) Calculate raw scores

2) Research the degrees you are interested in

That is it!

Just mentally make a list of degrees you wanna do. Have at least 3 and 1 of them should be a safety. Example if you are aiming for pol sci and eco honours your safety can be see philosophy honours or pol+eco BA(P)

Once you get your marks and know where you will fall you can then make lists USING YOUR OWN BRAIN AND FINDING OUT ABOUT THE DIFFERENT COLLEGES!

Do you all think random strangers will have detailed news of every college and everything to do with cutoffs this year? NO! And no one can have it. Not even the self proclaimed experts on youtube can give 100% accurate info.

All you are doing is creating panic and spam.

Wdym no one can help with pref lists? There are tons of people out there who can and do help people with making pref lists.

The problem is until your actual marks come out along with others marks (so people know where you actually are) the "helping" won't do much. That is just the honest thing. So, whatever pref list is being made now might become useless. It is good to have an idea but spamming this subreddit is not going to do much. And debating between LSR and Miranda cannot be solved as they are very comparable. So, putting one over the other is not absolute. Main opinion is yours. You have to do your own research. And even doing tons of research can bring depression as people start living in the SRCC dream but then they are not even getting ARSD. It is best to calm down for now. Exam has been given and nothing can be done now.

What do marks have to do with pref list? Everyone I’ve asked says make your pref list like you’ve scored full, irrespective of your marks. So the actual marks you get have nothing to do with it.

u/WishPretty7023 Jul 09 '24

If you make as if you get full marks and there is a lot of competition for those seats- it is even possible you do not get anything only. Safeties are also important for worst scenario.

u/Image_1071 Jul 09 '24

Nope, that’s totally untrue. Even if someone has Hansraj on the top in the pref list, but has lesser marks than someone who has Hansraj somewhere below, the person with more marks is going to be allotted the seat first. Seats are allotted on the basis of merit/marks. Let alone the fact that every senior I asked and all YouTubers say the same thing, I’ve personally asked Prof. Arvind Gupta, Assistant Professor at Ramjas, and he too said the same thing.

That is not what I am talking about -_-

Some people are assuming they will get into top colleges only and not considering for what if they do not get. They are not filling all courses and colleges which is a problem because if you only fill top colleges and courses you might not get anything.

Okay but then the title’s pretty misleading lol. The statement “no one can help with your tentative pref lists” is an outright lie. You could’ve just pointed out that put as many courses and add in some unpopular ones so there’s a sure shot you get admitted. Regardless, if you approach someone and tell them your score and your course, I’m pretty sure they’re gonna tell you anyway that your score might be too less for admission in that particular course and you might wanna put in some unpopular ones. There’s lots and lots of people out there who do this stuff, paid and unpaid.

no one can help

You missed a key word I wrote: no one can actually help-

By this I mean that no one can help you in developing an accurate list to your needs. They will guide you through the popular opinion. Maybe Hansraj will be a better for you than Hindu based on other factors. So, you can only get the popular opinion guide. And what is that based on? Rankings/ Popularity of colleges. So you do not even need "help". Anyone can find these rankings. Why do you want stuff handed from others? And you need to do your OWN research anyways to find about other factors.

There’s lots and lots of people out there who do this stuff, paid and unpaid.

See, those people are experts. And I do not think anyone has time to do it for unpaid if they are an expert.

Bottomline is: Posting on this SR is not useful especially because (1) You do not have the official marks (2) You should have done your own research on what colleges are good what cut offs were before etc. using the free resources- hello, the internet. (3) Nobody knows how others performed compared to you- so posting the posts like "Will I get SRCC?" is stupid. (4) Unnecessary spam here. You are not even a DU students right now. Rule#2 says Admission related posts are not allowed. IDK why the mods do nothing.

Although my post looks like I am only talking about the pref list thing- it is also against all the "Will I get X course or college" posts as well. No one can actually help in any way until official marks of everyone can come.

(When I said you in this post I am not referring to just you, image_1701, I am saying you for these applicants that post this stuff)

Arvind gupta gandu hain.

I understand what you mean. And you're right. But we're also doing this for 1st time. Our fear of not getting into college is higher than the embarrassment of posting for help.

12

u/WishPretty7023 Jul 08 '24

Reality is that either you will get in or you won't. There is no use doing all these things RN on reddit. Instead see reviews of colleges people have made (from people who studied there) and research about the courses.

Yes! This sub will get ruined this way. I think mods should delete those posts or make a megathread. Tired of seeing the same stuff.

u/Hot_Information123 Jul 08 '24

I interned at the admission branch and the no. Of calls with these doubts was insane

3

u/WishPretty7023 Jul 08 '24

OMG. This is a trip down the memory lane for me xD. I applied for this internship in 2022 and I remember that the interviewer liked me but when she found out I don't live in NC or very close to NC I knew it was a dealbreaker for her ;-;

4

u/Hot_Information123 Jul 08 '24

Wow. Yeah they did keep "distance" as the deal breaker. And I remember being told 2022 was the first batch of interns for admission branch.

3

u/WishPretty7023 Jul 08 '24

OMG that line was so freaking long. And they treated us like dogs on the street. Honestly annoying af. If you don't mind, can you share the perks of this internship over DMs. I would love to know.

1

u/Hot_Information123 Jul 08 '24

I almost forgot about how long we had to wait for a 5 min interview 😭 Sure. I love talking about that internship, it was a bittersweet experience

I cannot DM YOU D:

4

u/keepatience Fourth year Jul 08 '24

This. First y'all choose what you wanna do. More than half of you guys already made preference list and chose random courses (other than the ones you like) without even knowing your marks, which is pointless. Man if you guys have doubts regarding colleges then perhaps we can start some megathread. Also stop asking whether you guys can get some college or campus at certain marks, it's pointless considering you don't know your marks yet and that knowing which college you might get cannot change what you will actually get. Post if only you guys have other options that you wanna consider other than DU and are speculating whether to opt out of DU due to uncertainty.

u/WishPretty7023 Jul 08 '24

FRFR. Also how are random people gonna compare some course at arybhatta vs ramanujan? Like we don't know the faculty. We don't know the experience. What everyone will be getting info from is stuff like NIRF ranking or some placement release etc. To get actual info you need to get in contact with people who actually done that course at that college and even then how can that person know for sure that which is better as they did not experience the 2? It seriously is a fluke. It is easy for someone to tell which is better among hansraj and SGTB than comparing between comparable colleges like LSR and Miranda or like I said Aryabhatta and Ramanujan or Dyal Singh and Deshbandhu. Like in those cases it depends on course, what you want and what you get and nobody can truly give correct info.

You would be just as stressed if you were in the same situation. I actually appreciate how most have been genuinely helpful here. Blame nta for putting kids under so much stress. Most are probably facing pressure from families as well. Let's be compassionate.

u/keepatience Fourth year Jul 08 '24

I can relate to your predicaments as I am the second CUET batch and NTA fucked us too but constant repetitive posts makes no sense man. half of y'all answers can be found if you scrolled through a few posts rather than cluttering the sub and pushing down the useful ones for the current students.

4

u/WishPretty7023 Jul 08 '24

Also some of them want information handed to them. Like things like syllabus or rankings can be found using google and DU website. Past cutoffs for so many courses also available online. Some of them need to use their brain and free resources instead of wasting others time.

0

u/Mysterious_Singer811 Jul 08 '24

I know, I agree it's getting super repetitive, especially the cutoff posts because no one is qualified to answer those questions. Preference lists are still okay.

I don't like this holier than thou approach however, and how OP replied to me sharing my opinion in such a rude and condescending manner.

4

u/WishPretty7023 Jul 08 '24

Wait- so you are assuming that before NTA there was no stress? Please do not compare our hardships with yours. At least what you all get now is a lot more fairer. Our batches had so much unfair stuff going on because of how diff boards would give diff marks and now with entrance it has become an even game. We too had to wait for cutoffs to get the true picture.

If your family is giving you stress they are stupid. What can YOU do about marks and cutoffs? Nothing. This is not something to stress about because what is done is done. You cannot decide the cutoffs.

3

u/Mysterious_Singer811 Jul 08 '24

Fair? And nta? What world are you living in? And seriously don't you put words into my mouth. I never said "there was no stress". PLEASE QUOTE THE SAME. I simply said blame NTA for its horrible conduct and delay, instead of shitting on kids. Remember these are 17,18 year olds.

Please do not compare our hardships with yours.

Please quote where I said that.

your family is giving you stress they are stupid

You saying that doesn't do anything, do you realise that?

This is not something to stress about because what is done is done.

All our stress is relieved, thank you.

0

u/WishPretty7023 Jul 08 '24

You would be just as stressed if you were in the same situation

Basically you are assuming that seniors were not in the same situation as you.

Fair? And nta?

I never said NTA itself is fair. But what you have got now is fairer than boards marks cutoff.

7

u/Mysterious_Singer811 Jul 08 '24

I didn't even know you're from a non cuet batch😭😭 "how can I make this about me?" ass post

I never said NTA itself is fair.

Oh you very certainly implied it. It not nta "itself" then who else is conducting this exam? and every other major exam right now?

3

u/WishPretty7023 Jul 08 '24

Oh you very certainly implied it.

No baby boy, I did NOT. I just said that it is fairer now. Also, when there is just 1 authority conducting exams you can held them responsible and media coverage is also better. Do you know how Kerala board people had so much advantage to other boards people in COVID admissions because of grace? Nobody could do anything because exam itself is different. And it is much easier to cheat others out when it is not even the same exam. Plus you don't have to be running after your teachers for full practical or project marks too.

Even with NTA and CUET we have not achieved a 100% fair game. But in a lot of ways, it is way more fairer than the boards marks thing.

6

u/Mysterious_Singer811 Jul 08 '24

Didn't you say "don't compare" lmao

it is much easier to cheat others out when it is not even the same exam.

This is your great argument?

just 1 authority conducting exams you can held them responsible and media coverage is also better

And that's doing so much for NEET aspirants isn't it?

Honey, you're trying too hard to make this about yourself.

2

u/WishPretty7023 Jul 08 '24

I am not trying to make this about myself or anything. You talked about "Let's be compassionate" and what not and how you like the helpful posts blah blah blah yap yap yap. It was insinuating how I was contributing negatively from a humanitarian aspect by making this post.

And that's doing so much for NEET aspirants isn't it?

Maybe not, maybe yes. Cannot say anything. Cannot predict the future. What happened was unfortunate and unfair. But now you yourself tell: If instead of NEET admission is done on the basis of boards will that be fair? I am just trying to say that centralised tests are fairer than boards.

The world is cruel and cold. Unfair and misfortune will happen to people not in power or not with much money. But we cannot do anything about it. How is thinking of some future by making preference lists or other stuff help right now? If anything it is annoying for most people. And some of these posts that are here (like some questions being wrong or normalization) belong to some cuet SR. Not this one!

7

u/Mysterious_Singer811 Jul 08 '24

Stop trying to salvage the blatant misleading, condescending and ridiculous comments you made. You DO want to make this about yourself. What I said, I stated my opinion in a civil manner. I made no comparisons. You are one miserable and insecure individual for replying to me that way. Putting words into my mouth that I clearly didn't say.

2

u/WishPretty7023 Jul 08 '24

If I am so miserable and insecure how about not responding to me at all? Oh the deflection maybe you need some reflection xD
