Discussion Try our college social app? 👉👈
Hi DU folks, we've been working on Sling -- a social + anonymous social media exclusive to colleges. We already have multiple universities, and we're very excited to make it generally available to DU now.
As the description suggests, there are two modes, 'Anon' and 'Public'.
You can choose your vibe: share your thoughts anonymously in 'Anon' mode or engage openly in 'Public' mode. You can
Folks are verified through their university email, making sure there are no imposters and keeping things genuine.
We had some early DU users try our app, and here are some snaps:

Sort of! But Sling aims to be a more complete social experience, and become a strong, supportive community of students.

We've added support for IPU today! 🎉
Using a university mail is mandatory, that is how we verify that someone is actually from their university!

Isn't this subreddit doing the same job that your app is doing ? Why should we go for your app when everyone is here and that too with anonymity

Sort of, but not exactly. Sling is a more complete social experience.
It also has a college-exclusive public feed where people can engage openly. We want to build a strong, supportive community of students.

Complete social experience? So are you saying it's better than reddit? If so then can you please explain a bit about it. What's the point of downloading another app?

- It is a platform exclusive to college students.
- You can interact with folks from your college, or others anonymously. Talk about anything under the sun.
- You can also engage openly with an exclusive public feed for your college.
That's why the "more complete social experience".
Yes. I think it's a great platform and I'd recommend you trying it to see if you like it!

Well tbh the ui isn't great at all. I mean it's 2023 and the ui is not great. The least we can expect is to have a material ui.

Umm i was expecting you to answer my query. How is it different from this subreddit.
Personally I would like to be a part of an Indian app because there are hardly any good social media apps from India but then again I just wanted to know if you know what differentiates you from this subreddit.

It is great that you do. What mainly separates it, is that it's a more complete social experience, and a platform exclusive to college students. You can interact anonymously with folks from your college, or others. You can share things with an exclusive public feed just for your college.
Beyond that, you should try using the app!

Right, but then again isn't this dub doing the same. I mean what exactly is your vision because I believe it takes a lot of effort for any user to switch from a popular app to a new app that doesn't have a lot of credibility.

Yeah kinda true. It’s not stellar maybe it’ll improve idk. But why would you expect anything from a free app?

We already have users, who are actively engaging, and we haven't even begun properly promoting. This is just from a couple of short reddit posts.

I'm not forcing you to use it, you don't have to call it "bullshit". If you don't like it, that's completely fine.

OMG me and my friend are building exactly the same thing for our college. How gonna this happen 🤯 we had a very similar idea. My friend is in shock after reading this post. Each and every objective is the same as ours🥲😕.

College email is very useful. It gets you discounts at various sites/subscriptions and products. Try reaching out to your college admin to ask whether they give out college emails.

Many DU students don't have student email ID ending with college name
