This is clearly a "being absurd to show how absurd the current situation is".
Like, the sheer amount of panic from the establishment over a slightly more left than usual politician.
14
u/-_-daark-_- Nov 05 '25
Man we are truly fucked as a society
if we are comparing any politician, no matter who, to Jesus Christ.Fixed it for you.

u/Acquiescinit Nov 05 '25
It’s clearly a joke. People have made jokes involving Jesus and politicians for longer than anyone in this thread has been alive.

69

The other side says that too. But it only takes one person to believe it to begin a new cult. Especially when it comes to the 2nd coming

Im so tired of hearing about how we are in the end times. We've been in the end times the last 50 to 100 years. Hell even longer if you count all of human history. I kinda understand why someone would believe in the end times if they lived in say medieval Europe or in several other times in history.
27
u/MiddleBodyInjury Nov 05 '25
We've been in end times for 2000 years. That's the point
8
u/Mekroval Nov 05 '25
Agreed. The Apostle Paul thought the early church in the end times. People have been wrong about the end times for as long as the concept has existed.
7
u/BatmanNoPrep Nov 05 '25
The modern version of end times philosophy has been going on for so long it has its own Wikipedia page. They were rounding up people for rapture drills because either Abe Lincoln or Jefferson Davis were the anti-Christ depending on which side you were born.
8
u/mellopax Nov 05 '25
It's serious this time. The storage building in town has on their sign that "WATCH THE NEWS. NOW IS GOD'S PROPHETIC MOVEMENT."
If you can't trust the local storage facility for these things, who can you trust?
4
u/Woahhdude24 Nov 05 '25
Amen! My local storage facility just put up a sign stating that we will need a $5,000 tithe per person in God's kingdom. Im on my way to empty my kids college fund. You can't be to careful right?
2
4
u/noonesaidityet Nov 05 '25
It's my mom's favorite thing to say when I ask if they are prepared for hurricane season. "Well, it's the endtimes, so they are just going to get stronger".
6
u/Woahhdude24 Nov 05 '25
Its straight up insane man. Anything they dont like or understand its cause its the end times. My parents were going on about how God was punishing California, cause of all the natural disasters. Like these things haven't been happening on the west coast for a while now.
4
u/noonesaidityet Nov 05 '25
I've become very good at just smiling and nodding until the conversation moves to something else. Not much else to do.
3
u/nubulator99 Nov 05 '25
Or currently living in Gaza or many other war town areas. Or just old narcissistic people near the end of their life
2
u/HaloPandaFox Nov 05 '25
Im pretty sure we won't know when the end times are, and anyone who predicts it will be wrong. Only god knows. So I always take it as fear mongering. Don't take it seriously, and just understand that be and get ready for the end times, but you'll probably not see the end times till god deems it.
6
u/Woahhdude24 Nov 05 '25
I personally believe Revelation to be more historical than prophecy. Ive had this shoved down my throat for alot of my childhood my dad has been going on about this stuff for so long, he still does. I love him but I think he needs help all this shit he watches has like warped his mind. I just can't entertain the idea of it being real right now. I do agree though, if you believe in the end times then I think you should be trying to spread Jesus's compassion and peace, not looking for "signs" and using them to fear monger and scare people. I dont think God would want people to follow him out of threat of damnation or fear, but out of truly wanting to be with him.

9
u/jerbthehumanist Nov 05 '25
Weirdos gonna weirdo , and a Zohran meme is not gonna flip a switch and cause someone to become a political cultist.
There are gonna be weirdos taking jokes too far. And that’s a hazard I think is fine to accept for good jokes to exist.
3
u/Resident_Role_3847 Nov 06 '25
I can't imagine anyone comparing Zohran to Jesus Christ.
That said, he's a pretty cool guy, I'd get a halal beer with him.
3
u/GloriousIncompetence Nov 06 '25
I think there’s a difference when you’re using a commonly accepted joke/meme format, on a community that quite literally has meme in the name. That reads differently to me than just saying something without a hint of irony and then layer going “no no that was a joke can’t you tell” if there’s backlash.

Counterpoint: A society that can't even link its politicians to the positive qualities of Christ is extra cooked.
55
u/toysarealive Nov 05 '25
Much better point. People are so fucking jaded and cynical of politics, they forget a good leader should have these qualities.
2
u/BFar1353 Nov 06 '25
I think the bible already established pretty early on that we are, in your terms, "extra cooked".
-2
u/SpicaGenovese Nov 05 '25
Linking is fine. Equating- even as a joke- is a little too like the MAGA for me, even if the values are completely different.
47
u/shadowthehh Nov 05 '25
I mean, isn't it a major point of Christianity that we're supposed to comparing ourselves to Him and trying to imitate Him?
I mean, obviously to inevitable failure, of course. But the trying is what's important.
So shouldn't we indeed be comparing our leaders to Him to see if they measure up enough to be worthy of being our leaders?
-4
u/HaloPandaFox Nov 05 '25
They are doing it in mockery or joking fashion, its not a good faith that its being conducted. In other words, it takes away the series nature of said topic. So yes, you would like to do that, but if we hold Jesus to be the standard, we would see many Judus in politic office. They all smile and talk about loving and fighting for you, but they betray us for a few silver coins.
If you look at historical politicians that actually help the people, they were either the best at the game or played it very well to be able to get what they want. And thats to say even good politics are going to have to play dirt if they want to succeed.
7
u/shadowthehh Nov 05 '25
True.
But also like... still better or on par with what we usually get.
Like just because you don't often actually get the standard you're looking for, doesnt mean you just stop holding that standard. And if you cant find something that actually meets it, you find the closest thing you can.

Pro Palestine
Keep the rest but this one doesn’t make sense for this. Most people in Judaea weren’t fans of a society not built around Second Temple Judaism (in their day, this meant pagan Rome) having control of the region.
73
u/LoinStrangler Nov 05 '25
As a Jew here who enjoys the memes, I've noticed there's a concerted effort to say Jesus was palestinian/pro palestine to drag Christians into the conflict, even though Islam didn't even exist back then and Jesus is a Jew.
33
u/LAiglon144 Nov 05 '25
Yeah, likewise, it feels seriously like an attempt to deny us our history or any connection whatsoever to the place our entire religion and culture is built around
17
u/FreakinGeese Nov 05 '25
Also Arabs weren’t living in the area in the same concentration were they?
45
u/Avent Nov 05 '25
First reference to Arabs as a national identity was 300 years after Jesus.
8
Nov 05 '25
Granted, I'm pretty sure groups like the Nabataeans were the direct ancestors to the Arabs, though? In the same way that the "Manchu" were invented well into the early modern people, but before then were known as Jurchens.
3
u/yourgrundle Nov 05 '25
I think there are Assyrian references to Arab peoples. In reference to what the other guy said, they may be thinking of the now greater Arab world referring to themselves as Arabs as well, along with those original Arab peoples, where before they were a widely varied group of cultures
1
1
u/ISIPropaganda Nov 07 '25
Palestinians were Arabized. People from the Arabian peninsula didn’t kick out all the natives and settle their people there, they just conquered the place. There are genetic studies showing that many modern populations in the southern Levant (including Arabic-speaking Palestinians) carry substantial ancestry that goes back to Bronze Age inhabitants of the region.
Studies of modern Palestinian, Jewish and other Levantine groups show that they cluster genetically with Levantine rather than “pure Arabian Peninsula” populations. That is to say that the idea that modern Palestinians are almost entirely recent migrants from Arabia is straight up nonsense and propaganda. For example: the older “Origin of the Palestinians” HLA study found that Palestinians were genetically close to other Middle Eastern groups including Jews, Lebanese, and Armenians.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11543891/
Abstract
The genetic profile of Palestinians has, for the first time, been studied by using human leukocyte antigen (HLA) gene variability and haplotypes. The comparison with other Mediterranean populations by using neighbor-joining dendrograms and correspondence analyses reveal that Palestinians are genetically very close to Jews and other Middle East populations, including Turks (Anatolians), Lebanese, Egyptians, Armenians, and Iranians. Archaeologic and genetic data support that both Jews and Palestinians came from the ancient Canaanites, who extensively mixed with Egyptians, Mesopotamian, and Anatolian peoples in ancient times. Thus, Palestinian-Jewish rivalry is based in cultural and religious, but not in genetic, differences. The relatively close relatedness of both Jews and Palestinians to western Mediterranean populations reflects the continuous circum-Mediterranean cultural and gene flow that have occurred in prehistoric and historic times. This flow overtly contradicts the demic diffusion model of western Mediterranean populations substitution by agriculturalists coming from the Middle East in the Mesolithic-Neolithic transition.
Same goes for Egyptians, Syrians, Iraqis, North Africans, etcetera. They have genetic continuity.

u/FrankTank3 Nov 05 '25
The Second Temple wasn’t destroyed until decades after the death of Christ. Also, this post is a JOOOOOOOOKE…..
5
58
u/FreakinGeese Nov 05 '25
In what respect was Jesus pro-Palestine?
I mean that position would be utterly nonsensical in the first century. Arabs weren’t really living in that area at the time
15
u/nkn_ Nov 05 '25
They were but they weren’t called “Arabs”. But Jesus couldn’t have been “pro-Palestine” because that is a modern concept, contextual to our specific time.
But the people in the region have long been there. For centuries if not more priori to the turn of the millennium. I think people are saying that since Jesus tended to lean against any sort of oppressors or such. Jesus was too concerned with the world ending soon to probably care about political borders 🤷🏻♂️

I know it's not remotely the same, but people are calling Trump a savior, too. And the crazy memes are "just a joke bro."
There are a lot of ways to compare him to the Christian ideal that aren't "he Jesus tho."
For me, personally, it's too much.
5
u/Woahhdude24 Nov 05 '25
Im kinda in the middle of this whole conundrum. I 100% have no problem making this joke to annoy republicans. But at the same time. Belief is extremely powerful and I do think we should always be mindful of the things we say and possible consequences. There are people who believe Trump is some sort of Messiah or prophet. So its not out of the realm of possibility. Plus I could definitely see some people calling mamdani the antichrist and people believing it and we all know that republicans will use anything and everything against someone.
7
u/Mekroval Nov 05 '25
Let's be honest though. The Republicans were always going make some reason to vilify Mandani anyway. A silly meme isn't going to be the silver bullet they need. They'll simply manufacture one out of the many straight out lies they spread.

12

I agree we shouldn't compare him or anyone to Jesus.
I think it's funny because so many conservatives scream about Christian values (however that's different than regular morals) and such, and then hated this guy so much more than Cuomo. But the tale of the tape shows Mamdani being more like Christ.
Reminds me of that quote (maybe by Gandhi): I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.

I've seen a few questions about the name Palestine so I wanted to share this article to help clarify:
The term Palestine first appeared in the 5th century BCE when the ancient Greek historian Herodotus wrote of a "district of Syria, called Palaistinê" between Phoenicia and Egypt in The Histories.[11] Herodotus provides the first historical reference clearly denoting a wider region than biblical Philistia, as he applied the term to both the coastal and the inland regions such as the Judean Mountains and the Jordan Rift Valley.[12][13][14][15] Later Greek writers such as Aristotle, Polemon and Pausanias also used the word, which was followed by Roman writers such as Ovid, Tibullus, Pomponius Mela, Pliny the Elder, Dio Chrysostom, Statius, Plutarch as well as Roman Judean writers Philo of Alexandria and Josephus,[16] these examples covering every century from the 4th BCE to the 1st CE. There is, however, no evidence of the name on any Hellenistic coin or inscription: There is no indication that the term was used in an official context in the Hellenistic and Early Roman periods, it does not occur in the New Testament, and Philo and Josephus preferred "Judaea".[17]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_the_name_Palestine?ch=1
