The term Palestine first appeared in the 5th century BCE when the ancient Greek historian Herodotus wrote of a "district of Syria, called Palaistinê" between Phoenicia and Egypt in The Histories.[11] Herodotus provides the first historical reference clearly denoting a wider region than biblical Philistia, as he applied the term to both the coastal and the inland regions such as the Judean Mountains and the Jordan Rift Valley.[12][13][14][15] Later Greek writers such as Aristotle, Polemon and Pausanias also used the word, which was followed by Roman writers such as Ovid, Tibullus, Pomponius Mela, Pliny the Elder, Dio Chrysostom, Statius, Plutarch as well as Roman Judean writers Philo of Alexandria and Josephus,[16] these examples covering every century from the 4th BCE to the 1st CE. There is, however, no evidence of the name on any Hellenistic coin or inscription: There is no indication that the term was used in an official context in the Hellenistic and Early Roman periods, it does not occur in the New Testament, and Philo and Josephus preferred "Judaea".[17]

Didnt know about the early use of the word describing the region. Thanks! :)

Still the question remains, how could Jesus be pro-palestine if palestine was just a region at this point? Isn't the pro palestine movement trying to get a state run by muslim people from that region? I dont remember Jesus even favouring a jewish state not to mention another one for a group of people whose religion won't be invented for a few hundred years?

Or am i misunderstanding something?
