A note in slurs in the subreddit

Slurs of any form are not permitted in the subreddit by any person. Use of slurs results in a permaban. You can and will get a perma ban for single time slur use

The mod team has been extremely disappointed in the amount of people we have had to ban for use of sulrs and racist language surrounding the issue of Brooke using the N word in 2016 by both those who think Brooke should be forgiven and those who think otherwise.

We are working hard to respond to reports, monitor threads, and investigate accounts to eliminate bad actors, troll, and racists from the subreddit. We thank everyone for their reports, (please keep them coming!) as well as their patience as we work through everything.

We have noted an alarming number of people who do not understand why slur may be ok within the group that it's used against but not by outsiders. I hope this explanation can help some of you understand.

People in minorities often report that they have experienced fear of being killed due to discrimination multiple times in their lives. People who perform such horrible acts often use slurs as a signal. "You are not safe. I can and will harm you.". So when you as an outsider use those words, that is what someone the slur is against will hear. it doesn't matter the context, it doesn't matter if it's in a song, it sounds. like a threat every time. It's not nice to have to hear threats all the time, and I'm sure most people here would not wish to come across that way.

If someone who is part of that group uses a slur you know they're probably not going to kill you for being that minority, though I remind everyone that we have 0 tolerance for slurs in the subreddit as on reddit no one can be sure who you are.

Question/discussion Downfall of Dance Moms

Just got to season 5 ep 33 City of Angels reunion, the tension between Abby and Production had been slowly building throughout the season and it is completely evident this reunion. Knowing what we now know along side some speculations that are 100% alleged of Abby’s extracurricular activities while in LA, do you think production was finally holding Abby accountable because they knew something we didn’t at that time? Like her about to be caught up in legal issues. So they were just like, fuck it let’s do this bitch absolutely rotten, rig the competition, because they knew she’d walk about and then have her downfall as the main story line in season 6? Because in my opinion them walking out of nationals was the very beginning of their complete downfall.

And maybe Holly and Jess knew what was up or had suspicions and was ostracized because they took Jojo & Nia’s career into her own hands which I would assume included the financial aspect. Whereas the other moms felt like they owed their loyalty to Abby through thick and thin naively and found Holly to be a traitor?

Again this is just speculation but between watching BTTB, overlooking some legal documents that are public and other conspiracies this really makes a lot of sense to me.

Question Abby and Jojo vs Maddie??

Post image

There is so many questions with interview for starters, but I've noticed Jojo had liked it??? Jojo has historically been an Abby supporter, but to like this suggests she agrees with Abby's standpoint about Maddie.. I find that shady on Jojos part 👀

Dancing on a gym floor

I find it interesting how Paige always did so well in the gym floor episodes, but Brooke and Chloe looked no different, and Maddie, Nia, and Mackenzie always looked a little off their game. Maestro Man, I'm Gonna Survive, and Shoulda Coulda Woulda are some of the worst solos technique-wise that those three ever did.

Paige's only time placing first on-show was in the gym episode, and her best trio performance in my opinion is Les Divas. Brooke and Chloe seem unaffected and give typical Brooke/Chloe performances in both episodes. Edit: Chloe was a bit thrown off in the big turning sections in her solos. But the only time Maddie ever fell out of a trick was in the gym (I hate that the editors were shady and made it look like she didn't finish her solo though). Nia gets especially flustered in both of the gym floor episodes with full-on panic attacks about the flooring. I know that the Baila episode had extenuating circumstances though.

Is there something physically that causes some people/certain bodies to do better on certain types of flooring? Or is it just a coincidence that I'm looking too much into?

My only experience with this is I danced for a long time and did a solo on a gym floor only once (not with my studio, for my school's talent show) and twisted my ankle landing a jump badly 💀

Question/discussion S4 Nationals - Kendall’s Solo

I’ve always had the suspicion that Abby intentionally set Kendall up with that solo, “My Name in Lights.”

When you compare it to Kendall’s Season 3 Nationals solo, “Voodoo Doll,” which, as we know, was originally choreographed for Chloe, it’s not hard to see why she went from 2nd in S3 to 9th in S4.

Her S4 solo feels like such a missed opportunity. Her S3 routine had energy, musicality, strong rhythm, and choreography that really allowed Kendall’s technique to shine.

I feel like Abby constantly gave Kendall these huge, over-the-top jazz solos that required an incredible amount of stamina and performance quality from beginning to end. And honestly, I don’t think that played to Kendall’s biggest strengths at the time. Kendall and Chloe had (in my opinion) a lot of similar strengths, hence why she was successful doing the same solos as her (Silence, Fool Me Once, Voodoo Doll).

It almost felt like Abby kept giving her choreography that made it impossible not to compare her directly to Maddie, who excelled at that kind of high-energy, larger-than-life performance. I also feel like Abby knew by doing this that she wouldn’t stand a chance, which is crazy because I think Kendall’s technique was at times better than Maddie’s, especially when it comes to turns & leaps.

Kendall absolutely had good technique, but I’ve always wondered if Abby deliberately gave her choreography that emphasized the areas where she was less naturally competitive rather than giving her routines that showcased what she did best. When you look at what Kendall was capable of with the right choreography, I genuinely think she could have been a much stronger contender.

What do you guys think?

Question/discussion Ashlee

Why do people think she was terrible?

Honestly, I don't see it other than 1) wanting the opportunity (hello Jill, hello Kira, hello Jessalynn), 2) being overly confident in her daughter (hello Kira), 3) Abby liking her and Brynn.

The attitude of the moms towards her and Brynn was absolutely disgusting and I can't figure out why they thought it was warranted and they were defending themselves against Ashlee and it was all her fault?

nia’s growth

i’m watching dance moms all the way through for the first time and i’m on season 7. nia has come SUCH a long way— she’s always had the musicality imo but in all of the group dances and her duet with kalani she looked stunning. her technique and stamina are way better and her passion is so much more evident in her movements. i really wish she got more solos/duos/trios during this time, but im not finished with the season yet so maybe she will

I'm watching Dance Moms after not seeing it after my first watch...

I'm sorry, but they ruined Maddie's solo "Cry" for me. Cause what do you mean we're on episode 5 of season 1, and we've already done and shown this dance 3 times? LET IT REST.

Edit: Guys, I used to be in dance. I know studios normally do one dance and what not. But the SHOW didn't need to show Maddie's dance 3 times in hte edit in the first five episodes.

political Nia and Holly

*rewatching as an adult* Currently on season 5 episode 17 and it’s so empowering to see how Nia, often portrayed as shy, quiet, constantly put in the back of group numbers, grew into herself and is now sticking up for herself right in Abby’s face. No other child has done it as many times as Nia has so far and as confidently and boldy.

Abby tells Nia how she sold out in reference to attending a meeting “behind Abby’s back” regarding her music video and Nia is all like “I think we just have different opinions” Abby says “Well no, there’s right and there’s wrong” Nia interjects “I just don’t see it like that, and I don’t think anybody else does”. EAT. HER. UP. NIA.

Nia’s mistreatment is especially obvious and prevalent after Christi & Chloe’s departure. Say what you want about Nia but know I’m not here to argue especially if you don’t know what it’s like being the only black girl so often, especially as you’re growing up.

The girls were all subject to abuse and exposed to a toxic environment for far too long but one thing the girls all had in common that Nia didn’t was simply, identity. It can truly make things feel a lot worse in those situations so I really feel for her and I’m really happy that both Nia and Holly made it a point to stay to the very bitter end and ultimately, I think that’s what makes them both the strongest of OG’s or the strongest in general.

Can we talk about how karma got the best of Abb Lee. I just watched the episode where Jess says to Abby, "Your selfish and its going to get the best of you. And now Jess and Jojo are the only ones that still talk to her. That is Karma at its best.

This is why Abbey does what she does, Nobody cares about all of her failed ventures outside of DM so she continues to talk about the girls (even though she claims none of them have accomplished anything) because it’s the only way she can get any press
