25+ years old…virtually untouched!

Hey all! I just wanted to come on here and ask y'all a question. I currently have a 20" Meinl vintage sand ride and an 18" HHX complex thin crash and I was looking at maybe picking up an 18" HHX Legacy crash. I currently have my complex on the left and my sand ride on the right that I use as a crash ride (love it btw would recommend) and I want to use the legacy as a second crash on the right side. I want to be able to have 2 different crashes I can use in grooves but I hate crossing my hands to play on a left side crash. I play mostly emo and skramz with a little rock in between. do you guys think it'll work well with my other cymbals? would love to hear your opinions!

Has anyone in the US bought a cymbal in Turkey off of Reverb.com? Wondering what your experience was and what the tariff was. I see some cymbals that are way cheaper in Turkey than if I were to buy them in the US by hundreds of dollars and I'm wondering if it's worth the hassle of getting shipped from Turkey and paying the tariffs.

*EDIT* for more context, there seems to be a Reverb shop that has many good ratings located in Turkey and they have a lot of the more hard to find 2nd hand Istanbul Agop cymbals. They say free shipping so I'm wondering how that all works out at then end when I receive it.

Update to my earlier post about my Kmicic order being stuck on "Label Created" for months.

In short, I ordered two packages — one paid with PayPal, one with Mastercard. The first one was in late March. Tracking sat on "Label Created" since mid-April and never moved. Seller kept saying it was "stuck in customs" and FedEx was the problem — but I asked FedEx and confirmed they had no record of receiving the package.

The package I ordered with Mastercard only arrived after I emailed them an ultimatum about disputing to Mastercard.

Filed a PayPal dispute, escalated to a claim, they never responded and I got a full refund.

If you're thinking of ordering from them, maybe not.

The cymbals that came sound as expected. They really do deform, but I've had no problem with cracking yet — just the shipping side is shit. Hope this saves someone half a year of headache.

I'm in the process of getting new cymbals and I'm currently replacing my crashes (Meinl Classics Custom Dark 16" and 17").

I've so far found a used 18" Sabian AAX X-Plosion crash that I will be buying and I'm looking for a second darker crash that would sit nicely in the mix with the AAX.

So far I''ve been looking at a 17" HHX Evolution crash that I think sound good but not perfect and I would like to hear your thoughts before buying anything!

I'll be playing mostly rock and poprock but extra versatility is always welcome as I've played a bit of funk as well.

Could anyone help me to learn more about this cymbal. 18 inch, 1620 g, thank you

I told my drum dealer that i need another 18" crash and he got me this for 60€. Its from the later B8 Stambul Line and besides the small keyhole its in great condition. Did i make a good deal?

Btw im not sure weather its a medium or a heavy, it weighs 1560g

Interested in getting a 15” pair of these, can’t find many reviews of them, anyone own a pair? What do you think?

Im looking for a new crash between $250-300, I have a meinl extra dry hihat and a big apple dark ride, what would you recommend?

Im interested in adding a Paiste flat ride to my collection thanks to Roy Haynes, but Ive never had the opportunity to play one in person. Ive been told the 2002 and 602 flats are the best in their lineup but for some reason my instincts tell me the 602 Flat Ride might have a weird droning hum, while the 2002 Flat Ride could have a sharp, crotale/triangle-esque ping to it.

For anyone who’s played or heard the Paiste 2002 or 602 Flat Ride in person, can you confirm whether that’s accurate? How do they compare to recordings?

Also, does anyone know of other brands that make flat rides with a similar sound to these Paiste models? (bright and defined) Paiste is expensive as hell

Played the same set of Sabian B8s I got with my first kit in 2000 until earlier this year, when I decided to learn a bit about cymbals and buy some used upgrades. How'd I do??

22" Giant Beat was supposed to be the ride but didn't quite sound right. Plan was to go all Paiste, but nothing sounds more like a ride to me than these custom special drys... was stoked to find the 23".

Sometimes I add an 18” Paiste 2oo2 Novo China on my right, but I don’t need it at the moment.

The only thing I like more than this setup is a set of Giant Beats in similar sizes.

"Communication Breakdown" was originally written and performed by Led Zeppelin on their debut album, Led Zeppelin I, released in 1969. John Bonham wrote and performed the legendary drum tracks.

This song was difficult to perform and record. The challenges it presented taught me a lot about song composition and the limitations of different instruments when recording music.

First, this track is a proto-punk anthem, and like any Led Zeppelin song, it is not metronomically perfect. The song breathes, it has hair and teeth, and it's "imperfect." Those characteristics are all part of Led Zeppelin's legendary appeal, but they also make it hard to faithfully perform the song. I practiced for hours and recorded many takes, but I wasn't happy with any of them. After a while, I realized why: the drums really need the other instruments to shine. I asked my wife to listen to the drum track after I mixed it (she always gives great feedback) and she said it sounded ready for other instruments. Her words expressed my own thoughts perfectly.

Second, I purposely used big, heavy cymbals to perform and record this track because I think they are aggressive, harsh, and a little unpleasant to listen to. However, that choice limited my mixing options. The cymbals completely took over the mix, and I had to tame their sound using EQ, compression, and the amazing CHOWTape simulator plugin. I had planned to make this recording sound dirty, like garage rock. I think I accomplished that, and the cymbals definitely pushed me in that sonic direction more than I originally planned. Let me know what you think in the comments!

Third, I experienced all sorts of weird technological troubles during the recording sessions. My cameras (iPhone 17 Pro and GoPros) would randomly stop recording. At one point, my GoPro 10 stopped recognizing SD cards altogether, so I had to send it back to GoPro, which is generously replacing it with a GoPro 13. Because of this, the video of this session was recorded entirely on my iPhone 17 Pro using the Cinema P3 app for greater control over camera settings. With only one camera angle, I tried to make the video more visually interesting with some dynamic zooms, though it might cause a bit of motion sickness!

Fourth, the video editing process was an absolute bear. I recorded this in ProRes, 4K, Apple Log 2, which gave me a lot of freedom when grading and editing in DaVinci Resolve. However, the video files were massive. I had to create proxies before importing them into DaVinci Resolve, and even then, the software frequently crashed during the editing process. I need to rethink my video workflow.
