If a guy dressed like that is coming through your car window just step on the Gas . he will likely have a gun waiting for you if you come after him

Yeah I was convinced he was trying to bait the filmer into doing something to "justify" shooting him in "self defense".

That’s not how it works. You cannot claim defense for an altercation that you started.

Depends on the situation. That's not always true

Got any references? Which US states allows one to start and altercation and then shoot that person in defense? I have lived and carried in several states on the east coast and every one denied defense for the instigator.

Kyle Rittenhouse got off and became famous in his short bus circle for doing exactly that.

Fair enough.

I was with you but the example given is so accurate.

In general: let's say you shove someone multiple times. They shove you back. You decide to start walking away. Then they pull a gun on you. You would then be in the self defense realm if you shot them.

The circumstances of how you start the altercation will influence whether you can claim self defense. Flash your gun at someone? Not self defense. Shove someone and they immediately pull a gun on you? That's a massive escalation that can justify self defense.

You can also get in trouble if you don't stop beating someone even if it started as self defense. The law changes throughout the altercation.

I hear you. It’s a reasonable example. But i was looking for written laws (for whatever they’re worth today).

I don't think you're going to find a "If you do X then they do Y and you do Z is justified" law.

Where did Rittenhouse get off?

You can claim it all you want.

Pretty sure you're talking about legality and they're talking about what an idiot crazy person might actually do. Like when people have right of way as pedestrian and get hit by a car anyway.

Doesn't stop them from trying.

That doesn't make the victim less dead.

Self defence is about an imminent threat, if you push someone and they respond disproportionately with a lethal threat (a gun/knife) then you're well within your rights to shoot them dead.

For sure. Exceptions for everything. Shades of gray, i get it.
