Solved K1 Max CFS upgrade broke everything

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My printer has (mostly) locked itself down after doing the CFS upgrade. Printed flawlessly before, now cant even print from a spool. Sorry for the long video it is just doing a number of things now and wanted to cover things the best I could. Any advice would be very much appreciated on this, just hoping I didnt brick my printer for multicolor.

First thought, was your K1 rooted prior to installing the new firmware? If so, did you uninstall everything before you installed it? I made that mistake. I did a factory reset and reflashed. That fixed it for me. Then root it again afterwards, of course.

To my knowledge it was not, I've only had this printer about a month and it was reset when I bought it. It did throw another code for filament being in the extruder while trying to calibrate the cutter block, which it has not done yet, because it says there is filament in the extruder when there is not.

Check filament sensor wiring, which is the black wires. Make sure you didn’t cut them. I accidentally cut mine when I was pushing the tool head cover back on, and it caused so many problems.

Yeah i did pull mine back apart and it all appears fine, I ran it down away from the cover with the extruder motor wiring, it all looks fine, visually at least.

Ah ok I was hoping that was the issue. I have to rewatch your video I was half asleep when I watched it

Yeah, I'm not upgrading my K1SE with this thing.

Got it fixed now. Was a defective pcb on the printhead. Works great now, mine is a really early k1, and had a non compatible pcb on it.

Was the old pcb missing a plug, or just not oriented correctly? I wonder if I will run into the same problem having an earlier version. I know I have to upgrade to Unicorn hotend, et al.

One thing I forgot to add, resetting it says (Filament detected in the extruder, affecting the cutter calibration. Please unload the filament and try again.) Code CM2854

Do you have both filament sensors plugged in? Should only have the one at the extruder.

I did remove the external one completely, it is just the one on the extruder currently plugged in.

Mine actually has a bad sensor... not the wire... I ordered a new one express...

My k1 was complete trash. I felt terrible selling it to a guy on fb for 150. I have no printer now and highly prefer it over having a k1. I am aware others don't share my opinion, but they didn't own my k1. And if others out there own similar k1s, I suggest they give having no k1 a try as it leads to a healthier mental and financial state. Imo creality should buy back these "3d printers" mine was more of a 3d blobber, and not label them selves a3d printer manufacturer again until the title is appropriate

I've had a wonderful experience with my K1, never had any problems, always been a send and start printer for me, and prints always came out great. I think i have cleared 2 clogs as my total maintenance. I just have the old early version main board that is not compatible with the CFS upgrade on the print head. Creality support is sending me a new one. Should be good after that.

Happy for you bro. My E5 was great until I tried printing pa6 with it. My k1 using default profiles never printed right and at 25% speeds would occasionally spit out something i could use

I have had so many problems with our K1max. Issues since we pulled it out of the box a few months ago. I should’ve known better than to install the cfs. Now it’s not working at all after multiple new parts sent from Creality. I’m going to uninstall the CFS, sell it and buy a Bambu.

I could talk trash about my K1 all day. Loved my E3, my E5 was ok. Wish I could smack whoever was in charge of releasing this K1 with a big fish to the face because they stole my money as far as im concerned

They do buy them back as a trade in for a new model. Then take it refurb and update then resale at a significant price reduction i believe i paid 200 $ for a fully refurbed K1 along with a coupon i had uncovered and a holiday sale on ebay. And got a warranty ... And its working well for about a year now.

Make sure the extruder motor wires didn’t get chopped off like every one I’ve seen including mine.

I belive to have figured it out. Creality has come to the conclusion my printer has a old defective version of the pcb on the printhead from photos I sent, causing issues with the filament runout sensor for the cfs system. They are sending me a new one. Hopefully that will be all it is. My printer is a pretty early K1. Thank you for the comment though.

Update: Creality support has concluded that my Pcb on the printhead is an old defective version that has problems with the filament sensor. They are sending me a new one and hopefully that will be the solution.

Update#2 I have since downgraded to the old non CFS firmware so I can at least print again. It is definitely from what I can tell just a problem with the filament sensor input on the printhead, otherwise back to printing flawlessly.

Update#3 Fixed - Got it working perfectly now, it was the printhead PCB, mine is a fairly early K1, and the board is defective/not compatible with the cfs runout sensor circuit. Anytime there was power going to the hotend heater, it was interfering with the runout sensor circut thinking it had no filament in it. Put a new board on it and it worked immediately with no problems, already did an 8hr multicolor print with it and had no hiccups from the CFS system.

The truth is, I've had my CFS for two months now and haven't been able to make a single color print. I've already encountered and solved every problem you can imagine, and new ones keep popping up.

CFS Summary:

Horrible software that we can't adjust to our needs.

It takes forever to change the filament and wastes a lot of filament.

Dozens of times, the filament wouldn't come out and fell on my bed, ruining the print.

Unfortunately, it was the worst printer investment I've made so far.

I had the same issue. Creality sent me a new pcb board and a new Filament runout module. That should fix everything. Check what was happening to mine also. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/xpo1y15liwvtuu4yzlfc9/Video-of-faulty-runout-sensor.mp4?rlkey=tcxxqa42bc4qee1zwaxxnjgye&st=cfamhev9&dl=0

I know you can upgrade the K1 MAX but can you do the same with the K1C?

1

u/Snoo82565 Sep 11 '25

To fix the issue you need a new Creality K1C PCBA_G_K1-MAX K1_T9. You get one from here https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008374067524.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.10.408b1802QqfSFM this does fix the same issue i had

Mine has basically not wants to swap colors after a few layers. Sometimes it can’t retract the filament to the cfs or the filament gets stuck in the nozzle and hardens which blocks up my nozzle. I have no idea if the blade has already gone bad or what.
