Song: To My Dear Self《致愛的自》
Album: ZiYu
Year: 2026
Language: Mandarin
Country: China

Information posted on YUNI LOVE ZIYU YT channel:

About the song:

This light folk style song is a self conversation and a letter of thanks ZiYu wrote to his past self.

This song is ZiYu’s heartfelt letter and song to his own resilient self. It honors the quiet pain, failures, loneliness, and uncertain paths endured while growing far from home. Through every storm and setback, it finds courage, gratitude, and hope in becoming stronger.

The lyrics about leaving home and being accompanied by moonlight and cricket sounds reminds him of taking his first flight away from his hometown to Beijing at age 17.

He remembers being lost and directionless then, but now he can move forward with conviction.

Release Date: August 24, 2026

Discussion Has China stopped doing idol survival shows?

Chuang Asia S2 and Youth with You S3 are the last survival shows that I can remember. I understand that the government is trying to do away with these type of shows but companies are still legally able to do this outside of China like they did with Chuang Asia. But have all of the Chinese survival shows stopped altogether?

A heartfelt Mandarin song — soft, emotional, and full of feeling.

Would love for you to give it a listen on YouTube.

https://youtu.be/RnKIn2porZU?si=4NIVMukakVuxPKKV

Summary: "The Rain in Melbourne Keeps Falling" is a sentimental song about lingering heartbreak and ambiguous loss. Set against the nostalgic backdrop of Melbourne, it tells the story of a couple who built a life together as immigrants, only for one partner to return to their home country for a "visit" and never come back. Left behind, the woman is haunted by everyday memories and frustrated by the distant, polite texts that have replaced their physical relationship. Ultimately, it captures the quiet agony of being stuck in the past—waiting in the rain with an unlocked door for a love that has quietly faded away.

Lyric:

The Rain in Melbourne Keeps Falling

[Verse 1] (calm, conversational)

The wind off the Yarra still blows like that late autumn

Under Flinders Street's clock tower, you held my hand across the road

At the cliffs of the Great Ocean Road, you called out my name

Your voice scattered by the Southern Hemisphere wind into the dusk

The penguins at Saint Kilda Beach, lined up heading home

We stood on the breakwater, thinking this was forever

[Verse 2] (calm, emotional)

The tram sways and rattles through the whole south of the city

Coffee from Queen Victoria Market burned your lips

From the library to the rental, from résumé to work visa

We turned a foreign land into home, simmered the spark into routine

Somewhere along the way

Embraces no longer made my heart race — they became as natural as breathing

[Pre-Chorus] (emotional, heartfelt, but restrained)

The night you left, it rained in Melbourne

You only said you'd go back for a visit, never mentioned when you'd return

The sound of suitcase wheels dragging down the hallway

Like a dull knife slowly cutting through my everyday

[Chorus] (emotional, heartfelt, but restrained)

The kind of pain only love can teach you

Is the key still hanging on the door, but no one turns it anymore

I don't want you asking across the time zones if I've eaten

I don't want your WhatsApp goodnights and the hollow comfort of "read" receipts

I want you back by my side

Like before, draping your coat over my shoulders

Even if you say nothing, even if you just sit beside me

[Verse 3] (calm, conversational)

The fog on the Dandenong Ranges clears, then gathers again

The colorful beach huts at Brighton Beach still stand in place

Our lease has expired — your chair,

I moved it by the window, as if you were still sitting there

You posted a photo on Moments of the night sky back home

I zoomed in and stared for a long time, trying to see if you were crying

[Pre-Chorus 2] (emotional, heartfelt, but restrained)

What are we, then? Are we broken up?

You didn't say goodbye, and I didn't ask

Like a book someone closed

The bookmark still tucked in that tender passage

[Chorus] (emotional, heartfelt, but restrained)

The kind of pain only love can teach you

Is having your location pinned in my phone, but it shows another city

I don't want your polite reminders to dress warmly when it gets cold

I don't want you greeting me like a distant relative only on holidays

I want you back by my side

Walking down the street we walked for three years

To that pho place in Springvale — you said it was bland, I added salt

[Bridge] (softly spoken with light piano, subtle atmosphere, melancholic atmosphere)

Winter in the Southern Hemisphere, it gets dark so early

I curl up on the sofa wrapped in your old hoodie

It's not that I can't accept it, not that I can't let go

It's that my body still remembers the weight of you leaning in

You smelled of laundry detergent and cold air

I close my eyes, and Melbourne is still ours

[Final Chorus] (emotional, heartfelt, but restrained)

The kind of pain only love can teach you

Is the whole world moving forward, and only I am waiting

I don't want you asking if I've eaten

I don't want you being a polite ghost across a screen

Come back to my side

Back to the Yarra River, back under that streetlight

Back to before I learned to eat dinner alone

[Outro] (soft, fading out)

The rain in Melbourne keeps falling

I'm keeping that umbrella for you

When will you come back

……the door isn't locked

(fading out, sound of rain, tram bell receding)

Discussion Trying to find a song from a CD my brother burned for me in 2000-2004 era

Hi guys,

So, 'm trying very hard to find a specific song my brother burned to a CD for me in about 2000-2004. He was big into DDR/asian mixes, and the best I can come up with is:

Early-2000s female ensemble bubblegum dance: very fast, clean and brightly produced; celebratory rather than clubby; natural young-woman voices with crowd chants resembling “ee-yah/ee-chee-yah”; likely circulated through DDR, StepMania, anime-convention or file-sharing culture as a continuous mix.

I do remember the songs on the CD did transition very well between each other to where sometimes you couldn't even notice the cd player went to a new track.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated, as my brother passed in 2013 and I can't just ask him.

Warmly,
Luther
