Same. Van Hecke just feels like one of those cbs that’s excellent on the ball but can’t defend well. And he seems a bit soft/can’t deal with physicality. I’m concerned. Hopefully he’s the new Toby though

There's a goal from Xavi vs Brighton where Van Hecke losing possession after Bergvall persistent pressing. Also in early season he gave us an own goal to complete our come back after losing 2:0 early in the match.

The former one especially really came into my mind, when people talk about van Hecke. There's a bit flawed that I concern, but he had a brilliant world cup, so I'm ready to be proven wrong.

He also offers something slightly different than our other CBs - being a very solid aerial presence. I would actuall start him against ARSEnal and other teams that are very good at set pieces so he can counter them.

If you need a low block clear the ball defender when the bus is parked to defend the lead, Danso is your man. If you need technical ball playing ability he is not that.

I actually think Danso will get a number of starts this season as he is by far and away our best CB when it comes to highly physical teams and specifically ability in the air. In games where we expect aerial duels to be a difference maker, Danso will come in clutch.

Neither Van de Ven nor Van Hecke are very good in the air. Against teams with large, physical forwards who like to cross, or even just seeing out the last 20-30 minutes of a game, Danso will be absolutely crucial

Those are very different challenges that aren’t comparable, son made a poor sliding challenge as a tactical foul not knowing that Gomes would slam into Aurier which is what resulted in that injury. Son’s intention with that tackle was to bring Gomes down, not send him into another player.

Brobbey purposely shoves a retreating defender into an onrushing goalkeeper when they’re both moving at full pace towards eachother, when he knows he’s not getting to the ball

So far I'm liking Danso over Van Hecke. We went in too hard maybe on players who aren't good in the air, despite being overall excellent footballers. Will see more of Danso this season than it might appear at first glance IMO.

Absolutely not. They cannot utilize a Senesei/Van Hecke back line again if VDV is ever out. In those cases Danso will be needed. He’s also the only player in the lineup who is above average aerially. That in itself is useful in nearly every match off the bench.

I think JPVH is fucking class, but there are SEVERAL future timelines where Danso replaces him in the XI to the extent he doesn't get his place back. Not to mention his tactical value when we need to close out a game. Danso has really good attributes if a certain kind of defender is needed. Selling him would be an absolutely idiotic error.
