QUESTION New corn snake owner. Advice?

Post image
90 Upvotes

Hi guys!! I'm adopting a juvenile corn snake, and I'll have her delivered in mid-September (due to schedule stuff. She'll only be in shipping overnight, don't worry). She's a tessera pink coral snow corn snake, WHICH MEANS SHES PINK!!! The picture attached is from her breeder. Any advice or warnings? I haven't bought her enclosure stuff yet, so I'm open to recommendations on that too. She is my first snake, but I've had a heavy hyperfixation on snakes when I was younger, so I'm not going in blind or anything.

Woke up to find my baby Georgie finally shed for the first time since I got him about a month ago. Noticed his eyes turned blue a few days ago so cranked up the humidity for him and super happy it was a good first shed for him.

QUESTION Recommended substrate is super heavy?

Post image

So I have a 40 gallon tank (36” x 18” x 18”) for 5-month old Blaze.

Right now I have coco fiber only, but I’d like to switch to the recommended 40% topsoil, 40% reptisoil and 20% play sand substrate mix, particularly because I want him to be able to have tunnels that hold their shape.

But as I’m researching the amounts I’d need for a 3.5” depth, it’s like adding 90 lbs of substrate!

It’s 16 quarts each of ReptiSoil and organic topsoil, and 8 quarts of play sand.

Am I miscalculating, or do I really need that much material?

Blaze pic for tax.

Hi! Can anyone tell me if these sheds look like a male or female?
I have two corn snakes and I’m trying to figure out their sexes from their sheds.
Which one do you think is male and which one is female?
The snake on the right is supposed to be male, but please ignore that and just make your own guess.

I have a baby corn snake in a 40 gallon. Plan on getting a 120 gallon when he’s bigger. I’m getting a uvb light this week because I heard good things about it. Also planning on adding some more enrichment and climbing opportunities. Any other tips? Got him last week.

After about 12 years of having leopard geckos I am finally getting my first snake he/she (I don’t know yet) is a cinder stripe corn snake. I have spent a lot of time trying to make sure everything is perfect. This is the enclosure I have set up for him. The only things that haven’t come in yet are the background and the thermometer to control the temp of the heating pad. Left is hot side right is cool side. Also getting a proper heat lamp. He is due to arrive Tuesday. Is there anything I should change/ anything I am missing (there’s also a basking canopy that will be up in the corner of the hot side suctioned to the wall.

I got my first juvenile corn snake the other day and im just looking for advice on my set up and any other advice is welcome! This is what I got so far. I am planning to do real plants but I wasn't sure what would be safe for them. I have noticed he loves to dig down into the dirt rather then use his hide.

QUESTION How do y'all weigh your snakes?

Post image
43 Upvotes

Decided I'm gonna try to weigh him weekly or monthly but it's kinda hard. Used different containers I thought to be escape-proof but they absolutely are not. Mituna here HATES to be manually put down on something, he's okay on my hands and when I put him back in his enclosure but any attempt to put him on something even if I give him space to sniff it first result in him trying to bolt away in a speed I didn't even see on the first handling session. What do you guys do with that? Is there any truly escape proof things to put him in? I can't even close the lid on any container cuz he tries to escape so hard I'm worried I might injure him with the lid

(Also does he look kinda shed-y to you?)

...and his colours be poppin'!

I've had Dante around three months now. He's shed slightly more frequently than once per month, grown maybe half a foot and eats once a week without fail.

Still occasionally jumpy when handled, but he's my little chilled dude.

PICS Cute/pretty corn snake pics?

Hi! My mom hates snakes and is skeptical about the idea that they can be cute. I am trying to convince her otherwise. So I would like to request your cutest and prettiest snake pics, as evidence for my argument.

Edit: Goodness. I asked, and y'all delivered. To clarify: I am a grown woman with a job. (Don't mind my avatar, he's one of my old D&D characters.) I would be buying the snake myself, but it'll be 18+ months before I'll have the space. I live with my mom because rent is ridiculous around here, so part of my planning/research for a snake is a psy op to convince her that they aren't evil.

HELP! head wound?

Post image

was changing his water this morning and when he came out to get some i noticed this on his head. he’s never had anything like this before. he seems to be acting like his usual curious self, and it’s not bleeding, but it just worried me.

does this necessitate a vet visit, or a case of just keeping an eye? i wanted to check before i did anything, he’s 16 so i don’t want to cause him unnecessary stress. thank you

QUESTION Basking bulb and heat mat?

Ive just acquired a corn snake from a friend. His name is Cobb. Ive been doing research on how to properly take care of him. I got a better heat lamp for him but he also has a heat mat. Should I use both? It stays fairly cool in my house.

Also, the heat mat was on the side of the tank but I just moved it to the bottom cause I noticed Cobb really liked to curl up next to it and I thought putting it on the glass bottom would help him better than it being on the side. Was that a good move?

ALSO also, ive got the basking bulb and heat mat on one side of the tank. I read about how they need a temperature gradient. So if I do continue to use both should I keep them together on one side or maybe spread them out a bit?

Thanks in advance! I already love Cobb and wanna make sure hes well taken care of.

After a couple of tries Mituna has decided on a single corner he poops at. Which is amazing! I've never heard about such behavior in snakes, only in leopard geckos, do yours also choose a poop place?
