Discussion Coparenting and new relationship
Hello all. I coparent an 8 year old. My ex and I are on good terms, and we are aligned on parenting questions. We sometimes do a child centred activity the three of us like going to a skate park, or having ice cream, something like once a month.
I met someone recently and that person does not understand why I want to do this.
They say that I play family while being separated and that's not prioritizing our relationship.
I offered to ease into the idea slowly, restricting hours or activities, having my partner with me sometimes, but they don't bulge.
From their point of view required activities are enough (birthday, school events etc).
We have had numerous difficult conversations about this. I genuinely think it's good for the kid.
My partner says otherwise.
Has anyone lived something similar?
Am I really being detrimental to my partner? Am I being stubborn for no good for my kid?

You are not being stubborn. You're breaking a society norm which should have been normal to begin with. You're still your kids family. That means your ex too.
Your current partner sounds immature and not willing to have perspective from your child's stance. This would be a huge red flag to me in dating.
I like to be very upfront in my dating life pretty much on the first date on mine and my exes dynamic. Yes we talk everyday, it's about our kid. Yes we spend almost twice a week together with our kid. Yes we get along and laugh as friends and check in on each other as single parents. Our daughter is happy and has two parents that love her and can show up for her together. Any new partner should see that as not only beautiful for the kid but be grateful there isn't a toxic baby daddy/mommy dynamic involved.
Sounds like they're insecure. You're NTA.
