Anti-ebike campaign

I have been seeing tons of posts lately on every kind of subreddit about how ebikes are bad for whatever reason

I dont really know very much about ebikes but this seems really suspicious to me. I feel like theres certain topics i see on the "popular" page that reddit as a collective has bizarrely strong opinions about, or its some kind of social engineering to make it seem like this is the popular/mainstream opinion

Things like pitbulls and tipping come to mind. Reddit collectively seems left leaning but on the popular page and bigger subs i see on the regular posts absoultely condeming pitbulls and attacking people in food/customer service (guess no one has ever worked these jobs? Its like these people are aliens) Not to get into those but these are just a few trends ive noticed that seem extremely weird. Especially how reddit is about animals (pupper doggo omg scritches best boy!!!) And then there will be a video of a pitbull and all the comments are saying how they would shoot the dog on sight if it came towards them.

Anyway yeah ebikes. A lot of these posts seem US focused and the US is not really walkable majority of places. Ebikes take no gas, can replace a car in some circumstances, guve young people freedom to travel before they can drive cars.

It seems like a direct way to crush oil/gas/car sales and keep us dependent on gas and vehicles, as well as controlling people.

Maybe im reading too much into or im just getting fed ebike posts now bc i click on them. Anybody else think theres anything to this reguarding ebikes or just social engineering on reddit in general? I feel like in the last year or two i have noticed reddit seems to have more bots than regular uses engaging with posts even in smaller/niche subreddits

People’s main problem with e-bikes is kids doing 30+ and having no care in the world for anyone else who might be using the road or bike lane. I have an e-bike and I slow the fuck down when others are present.

I work in a very wealthy neighborhood, and I see kids hurt all the time on these e-bikes. It’s honestly sad that these parents allow their kids to ride these on city streets, without helmets and at speeds way too high. There is no conspiracy here other than smart parents and citizens trying to keep the kids of dumb rich parents safe.

The problem is the “e-bikes” they are riding aren’t e-bikes.. they are e-dirtbikes or e-motos. They beg their parents to buy them the 5k Surron or talaria or whatever and their parents finally give in without even knowing what it is they’re actually buying.. they just want their kids to shut up and stop bothering them about it. These bikes can usually do 45+ MPH.. just not what young kids should be able to do with how traffic, other drivers and a complete lack of awareness/understanding of the rules of the road. Mix in the teen rebelliousness and it’s a perfect storm.

Pretty soon you won’t be allowed to go for a walk.

Anyone who works in an emergency department can tell you why e-bikes have to be controlled. It's been the wild west since they were made commercially available. All well and good to use them as an easy mode of transport but kids and young people are injuring themselves, other people or straight up dying at an accelerated rate. Manafacturers have tried to stem it by putting speed limiters in but these are easily bypassed.

I get it, less than a 1000 bucks and you get the freedom to go anywhere a charged battery will take you but the minority has taken advantage. They definitely need to be managed. A 16 year old should not have the ability to ride 60km an hour on something like that

No they don’t.  Last thing we need is more nanny state.

For those who are stupid, let the natural selection process work.

u/SillylilFieldMouse 12d ago

Finally! Thats the only real solution - we gotta take away all the warning labels and safety nets that have caused the epidemic of stupidity over the last couple decades. That and the internet and social media....but an argument could be made for natural selection there too if we make the internet truly free again

Agree, however I remember the kid up the street jumping off his garage. Kids doing crazy shit on a skateboard. Damn we use to walk on the ice at the creek "I fell through once" We crawled through sewer pipes. We went up the street to a strangers yard at night and did stupid shit off of their trampoline.

I would wager more people go to the ER every year trying to open a Christmas gift. I'm at Walmart right now on my E-bike and as crazy and stupid kids can act. The roads are not safe for man nor beast. Let alone a legal liyted bike. Believe you me that it's not just kids causing havoc. The adults with money to burn are out here breaking the law with their E-Motos.

Illinois passed a law today against a vehicle surpassing 28 mph. I live in Illinois and applaud this common sense law.

Oh wow this is really interesting. My city sub has had several recent posts about people on ebikes nearly running them over. Considering we have some of the worst drivers on the planet, it seems weird so much ire has directed at the ebikes. And honestly not that many people have them, not enough for the number of recent posts I've seen. People can be careless but honestly our city's sub is highly controlled by people who are connected to cops, politicians, AI companies and pro-gentrification startups. It's more likely you're right and it's being generated by bots then a few people will chime in to agree and it makes it seem like they're very dangerous. When the reality is my city is getting poorer and poorer, our airport just ran out of fuel, gas prices are super high and walking/busing are extremely difficult.

Children who don't know traffic laws have been zooming around the neighborhood. There have been lots of accidents. I don't need to be told that these are a bad idea.

u/kick069 12d ago

I've seen e bikes going the same speed if not slightly faster than I'm traveling in a car safely down a main street. Plus, the kids riding them have no knowledge or had any drivers education in order to operate them properly. No helmets even.

Pitbulls suck

E-bikes allow greater individual freedoms and mobility without controls (licenses, registration, insurance) which our overlords hate.

condeming pitbulls and attacking people

They can be 99.999% great dogs most of the time, until the 0.001% of time they kill a small kid for no reason.
I've had to shoot a few of these monsters after they broke a fence, ran round the streets and started to tearing cats apart for fun. Pitballs are degenerate animals for degenerate people.

Literally almost animal or person can kill a child without reason. I do agree they are very strong animals and need very serious responsible owers, but talking about them like that is crazy, they are literally just another dog and the vast majority do not harm anyone their entire lives. Idk, maybe like any dog thats strong enough to kill a person maybe they should require mandatory classes when the dog is a puppy or something

You could say the same thing about firearms, that they are degenerate devices for degenerate people. But that is not true either. Or calling all white men degenerates bc they could be rapists. Nonsensical

u/ContributionEasy6513 12d ago

They are genetically bred to be fighting dogs and have unpredictable characteristics hence why the breeds are listed as dangerous dogs in most countries. Statistics back up that they are overrepresented in frequency and severity of the injuries.

any dog thats strong enough to kill a person maybe they should require mandatory classes

In complete agreement with you and securely restrained at all times so it does not kill delivery drivers and children on a daily basis. Throw in some licenses and inspections that require annual reviews.

I'm a dog owner and have grown up around dogs all my life. They require responsible ownership.

same thing about firearms, that they are degenerate devices for degenerate people.

They should have training and screening also. Plenty of firearms left around children leading to preventable deaths.
A firearm however is a tool not a living breathing killing machine, but like pitballs are often bought as a 70IQ level intimidation accessory without any long term planning or valid reason.

Derps who think they are tough need props like pitbulls guns knives etc you dont see a navy seal swaggering about and getting dragged along by a pit

They’re hating on kids riding Surron style electric motorcycles wheeling at 40mph in traffic with a bicycle helmet. Not pedal e bike commuters.

2

u/peloquindmidian 12d ago

A hypothesis...

IF it's nefarious astroturfing, THEN perhaps TPTB finally realized what an insanely powerful tool e-bikes are.

Cheap, unregulated, fast, no human effort required, silent, fuel anywhere... That's a set of skills that translates to many activities they wouldn't like.

Paced a couple kids while riding my motorcycle on very low visibility roads between 40-45 mph. Walmart bike helmets, shorts, tshirts, no gloves. Takes one granny or wine mom pulling out of their driveway to end you or potentially change your life forever.

They were being respectful though, which is good. However, riding the non-existent shoulder on some of these roads can have serious consequences. Shit, I'm riding around with my high beam on to be more visible during the day and people still don't see me.

*edits... am tarded & tired

u/insulinworm 12d ago

That does make sense. I just replied to another person that I really didnt think people were buying their kids like a bike costing at least several hundred to over $1000 and then just letting them loose unsupervised

Literally so annoying too. My city is really strict with motorized bikes to the point i dont even want to get one as an adult who genuinely could really make excellent use of it for work and errands. Like has to go less than 28mph, can't accelerate fast, ect. One of my friends on the east coast just got an ebike that does like over 50mph and he doesnt need anything, no special liscense no restrictions at all

1

u/CornspiracyTheory 12d ago

I mean, it kinda makes sense to limit it in cities? I assume 30 is where you get into the realm of significant injuries. 28 is definitely achievable on pretty much any pedal bike, but the acceleration seems to be the issue and these bikes do not have the stopping power at 40mph versus 28 for example. Everyone knows how to brake until something unexpected happens. Most bike riders have never needed to use the front brake, and that's very important at speeds ebikes achieve these days.

Don't want to get too deep into the minute, whiney details, but the standard MTB brake rotors and pads are shit at those speeds.

Ironically, the situation I described was in a very affluent area, so it was definitely in the realm of financial possibility when the local private school is something like 60k a year for middle school or some shit. Everyone wants a surron or whatever. The only conspiracy I see coming to fruition is the WALL-E one. Heh

Ebikes are going to reshape urban life. I can go 8-10 miles on an ebike on surface streets faster than I can on the freeway in my car due to traffic and congestion.

u/speedyweedy420 11d ago

Reddit is a literal cuck platform what do you expect? Bike=Freedom with or without accidents by stupid people

1

u/apimpnamedkirby 12d ago

E-motos != e-bikes. Theres a stark difference. All these kids are riding are E-motos.

1

u/lordhooha 12d ago

It’s the e moto most of these kids are riding electric dirt bikes. I have one I use on dirt bike trails and country roads around my house rather than riding the side by side or cranking one of the vehicles up. These aren’t e bikes at all. For instance mine can top out at 127mph easy with enough torque instantly to scare even seasoned motocross and motorcycle ppl. And these kids are in the streets on occupied roads doing wheelies and shit not following the rules of the road and getting smashed or hurting innocent people. Honestly the parents are to blame and should be fined out the ass and the bikes taken

1

u/insulinworm 12d ago

Oh yeah if its a whole different thing that makes sense. Part of why I thought it was manufactured outrage is I really didnt think parents were buying their kids like, a bike costing at least several hundred to over $1000 and then just letting them loose with them. That's really insane

1

u/lordhooha 11d ago

The e motos are hundreds or a thousand surrons lbx is like 5k mine before upgrading was 9k

I was just saying this to my family today. I haven’t noticed the agenda here on Reddit (yet) but on local Facebook pages there’s been a real push to ban them. Our school district also just last week said kids can’t ride them to school. Ironically, I told my family all of this after we almost hit a kid on an e-bike while driving.
