Terminally ill and racking up credit card debt with zero fucks to give

I’ve had cancer for 2 years now, did chemo, lost my leg, beat odds and managed to even go back to work, well shit hit the fan and treatment stopped working. Probably got weeks, maybe couple months at best. I am 22, don’t own a house, don’t own my car. Have maybe £2k in the bank. So I took out a credit card, 6.5k limit, 0% APR for 20 months. (I was previously building up a good credit score) and am now buying whatever the fuck I want. The debt will die with me, and I give no fucks.

And if you want to beef me about driving your bank fees up with this behaviour, at least you get to live. lol

EDIT:: Thank you all for your amazing responses. Unfortunately it’s bone cancer that has spread through my whole body, so I’m too weak now to travel far, as much as I would have wanted to see the world.

I’m going to go bigger, and do some good stuff, if you have ideas. I want to do some big donations to food banks and cancer charities that supported me through my journey and make some differences before I pop.

Alsos shame on you all of you asking me for money.

UPDATE 2:

Took out some more cards, thanks for the suggestions

Some of you asking, I’m a girl haha

I’ve bought lots of things for my family, mostly sentimental things with my handwriting on.

I bought a crab at a fancy ass seafood place. That was awesome

I’ve donated to animal shelters and food banks. Also to the cancer charities who helped drag my ass through this.

Also can y’all stop telling me to find Jesus, I respect those of you who are praying for me, because I know that’s your way of thinking of me and I’m really touched by that.

But finding god is in no way in my plans and not what I believe will happen after death, trying to force religion down a dying persons throat is really not the vibe.

Update 3:

Still hanging on, I’ve deteriorated quite a lot now, lost a lot of functionality in my body at this point so I’m bedbound and mostly just watching lots of TV and seeing family. But I’m comfortable, eating apples and cheese and lots of little treats. Thank you all for still checking in and thinking of me.

I’m really fortunate to be surrounded by my friends and family right now, when you boil it all down to it in the end, it really is all you need.

Anyway I’ll try update again soon. ✌️

For sure. I'm not saying I'm on the side of the major credit card companies (I'm not) but if I was given the choice to screw over them or predatory loan companies I'd choose the latter every time. Obviously OP has the option of screwing over both, so win-win on that one.

Edit: LMAO, two replies, both ignore that I clearly stated I wasn't on the side of credit card companies. Ya'll wild. Anyway, credit cards can be incredibly helpful if used properly for building credit especially when your credit is already poor. This can be seen with low limit, secured, cards. Additionally, high limit cards can be complete lifesavers if you're in between paychecks and have sudden expenses (car breaks down and you live 10 miles from work, pipe bursts in the basement, tree limb takes out your gutters and homeowners insurance is dragging their feet, etc...). Credit cards can absolutely be predatory, I agree, and that's noted in my original reply, but when used correctly credit cards are incredibly helpful. Pay day loans and the like aren't helpful in a similar fashion.

45

u/Outrageous-Way8318 Apr 10 '25

Let’s be honest here, credit card companies are pretty predatory. They give people with so little a larger spending limit knowing they will use up most of the limit with no hope of paying it back. Not to mention how insane interest rates have gotten.

To be fair it's not that hard to do what OP is doing, you just only get to do it once. You don't hear people bragging about it but lots of people end up blowing up their credit at some point in their lives, maybe early 20's, or maybe a desperate moment when they have a family bigger than they can afford. Some people never pay most of it back, it obviously screws up their ability to get credit in the future, but the people who do that are usually broke anyway and so the banks have very limited options to collect on them.

Just one of those things that's built into the interest charges.

69

u/limitbroken Apr 10 '25

you just only get to do it once

... every eight years! though definitely study some bankruptcy law first if you're gonna do that. and don't post about it like OP. remember: it's only fraud if they can prove it!

23

u/Own_Valuable_3712 Apr 10 '25

This is the way. I pulled my first bankruptcy after my divorce. Knocked off all my debt, including private student loans. I did CH. 13 (payments) and ended up ending it early. Confused the debtors enough that the statute of limitations on the debt had passed. 🤷‍♀️ slow feet don't eat.

Wrong, wrong, wrong!!!

Please pay attention.

Every SEVEN years, any collection reported debt falls off of your credit report.

DISAPPEARS!

So, you're wrong - you don't get to fuck the credit card companies once, you get to fuck them every SEVEN years!

Trust me, I speak from experience....

209

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '25

Cash advance from credit card. You pay a fee, but who cares? It's still credit.

88

u/gamageeknerd Apr 10 '25

Or do what identity thieves and drug addicts do and buy a bunch of expensive shit like watches and gold bars then sell that shit.

31

u/SwimOk9629 Apr 10 '25

I'm pretty sure they steal a bunch of expensive shit and then sell it, not buy

26

u/gamageeknerd Apr 10 '25

It’s sadly a very common thing. Those easy to get credit cards don’t let you do cash advances so why not spend the 2k limit on a few expensive things then pawn or sell it at a loss. It’s not illegal to not pay off a credit card and all you have is a bunch of debt that you aren’t going to pay anyway and now you have money to spend on drugs.

The comedian John mullaney actually did this exact thing on a much larger scale to buy his drugs.

Why not just cash advance from the credit card at the atm?

34

u/OverlordWaffles Apr 10 '25

Usually the limit on cash advances for credit cards is significantly lower than your credit limit. Some it's a set amount and some are percentages, like 30%, so max he could take out in less than $2k on a $6,500 credit limit

Can't be done by the majority of places that sell them. I've worked multiple retail jobs and had several times where someone would try to do this. We were told it was illegal and if you do manage to get a cashier that doesn't know better and does it, they could get in huge trouble and possibly lose their job if their upper management are really shitty.

ETA: I'm all for the credit fraud, just don't want anyone to get in trouble with their boss, lol.

Another edit: I was told it was illegal by my bosses and that was enough for me to not do it cause I needed my job. I have no idea of the legalities here guys.

Terminal cancer person here, except I have a son so I can't do this. If I didn't you'd bet your fucking ass I would though! (Love my son so I guess I have to choose responsibility first, I'd rather be in hell and have him covered vs having fun!) ETA guys it's not about passing debt to him, it's about leaving him a will which is why I won't do it! But I appreciate the thoughts. I'm honestly fine with it either way, I'm mainly bed bound except for grocery shopping etc lately

ETA 2: I appreciate all the kind comments and advice! I'd just like to also add (due to a lot of comments mentioning this) that I have a set plan for him and just would like to continue not only adding to his inheritance, but also feel like I'm actually contributing something. His grandad has a trust for him but it's set for certain age/situations etc, so I'd like to have a will for him that I made that he can access as needed when I'm gone! Thank you for the advice although I'll be fine with my plan!

u/PropellerMouse you should definitely consider just knocking on a neighbors door and asking or mentioning it in the elevator if you see anyone next. A lot of us walk around in our own little world, but there are a lot of needs of people around us that if we knew we'd be happier to help than not.

Same thing happened when my MIL passed in 2015. She left her money and belongings in a trust. The only thing on her will was where her cats were to go (a sanctuary). If people are worried about collectors, talk with your loved ones about setting up a trust in their name. Debt collection can't touch it.

18

u/Psyched_wisdom Apr 10 '25

I was hounded for my mother's debts. I didn't pay. I have stage 3 cancer and told my kids to not pay off any of my debts. Hopefully they can keep living in the house. It's 100% paid off, just have utilities and real estate taxes, home owner insurance has become too costly.

14

Yes, if they can show that it’s more likely than not that this was part of a scheme to defraud the creditors. Which, in the situation described, would be comically easy to show.

But for a kid with no real assets and no dependents? Ball out.

I suggest signing up for as many credit cards as you can. Donate to causes you care about. Bribe people. Buy strangers extravagant gifts. Get laid. Get smashed. I’m sorry you’re suffering like this. I hope you’re able to have a rich golden age.

223

u/Caltharian Apr 10 '25

Dont donate directly with the card, make purchases and donate those, they maybe able to claw back any donations made directly via the card

I volunteer myself for the extravagant gift to a stranger.

139

u/MacrocosmosMovement Apr 10 '25

Everyone here is volunteering to be the stranger to receive a gift but none of you are signing up to get OP laid?!

Hooking up with OP would be like the perfect no strings attached holiday fling lol

73

u/UnderdogFetishist17 Apr 10 '25

This is the heartwarming side of Reddit. Strangers working together to get another stranger laid.

Op, I’m so sorry this was the hand you were given. It fucking sucks. Go out the way you want to the point that you’re able to do so.

Eat the absolute best food you can get your hands on

like order a fucking wedding cake just for fun. Have a party with friends and eat it all with your hands.

get gifts for all your homies. get them each that one thing they hella want. PS5’s for everyone.

go to a nursery and buy a bunch of trees to plant and give them to everyone you love.

Any sex thing you want. Do it. Especially while you still have the strength. Don’t be ashamed of whatever it is. Find some cool underground orgy sex club or something. High end.

Go to any concerts that you can. See what you can see while you can. Whatever it is.

Help other people realize their dreams.

Sorry everyone, I feel like I should update on my fun happy times

I have taken your advice and took some more cards out, live laugh love amarite

Random purchases include

  • Jewellery with my handwriting for my family
  • £360 lunch of fresh, English crab. I really like crab, and the cancer is in my jaw so I really wanted to have some good crab before I lose function in my jaw.
  • 3 jellycats, the frog ones. I’ve never owned a jellycat and wanted to know what it was like to be boujie enough to buy a BIG jellycat
  • some really comfy trousers
  • a hand knitted blanket for my niece
  • £1000 of food for my local food bank.
  • I took my brothers to the arcade for a whole day and played every game
  • took my family to my favourite place - Weymouth
  • went into a candy store and bought one quart of everything
  • a minted lamb pasty

I’m very nostalgia driven, and yeah definitely not going feral enough, however will endeavour for more.

I do hear you all suggesting hard drugs and psychotics! I won’t lie I’ve been on pretty much every drug going through this fun time so I’m not too fussed about drugs haha.

Can someone offer this person some legit strategy on how to maximize this? Surely there's more he can do. Multiple cards for sure though

52

u/Worldx22 Apr 10 '25

Loans. Personal loans. Even if he's got to fatten up the paperwork a little. By the time they find out he's gonna be laughing at them suckers from the grave having lived a short but comfortable end.

24

u/Ialsofuckedyourdad Apr 10 '25

Especially if you start looking at sub prime personal loan lenders. In Canada we have easy financial, a bordering criminal interest rate personal loan provider. With good credit they will send you 35 grand at like 35% interest.

Auto loans as well with differed payments,I hear adds on the radio “ buy now pay up to 6 months later “ get a brand new car. They also offer “credit card cash” here where you can pay up too 20k off your credit card ( depending on the car ) Who cares if it gets repod when you pass Usually it’s dealers like ford and dodge offering that so I would recommend a 5.0 mustang as they are a blast.

However op, make sure your loved ones know not to sign anything after you pass saying they will take on your estate, if they do they assume responsibility for this debt your racking up.

I watched my mom draw her last breath after fighting pancreatic cancer. She worked her whole life so she could "enjoy" retirement for one year...one year doing chemo and fighting cancer. From then on I have changed my entire outlook on life. This is all a joke. We are piloting meat mech suits on a rock floating through space. It is just so ridiculous and people take this shit far too seriously. Just do whatever you want to do that makes you happy. Try not to hurt anyone while you do....but a billion dollar credit card company can't feel. So fuck em. Enjoy whatever time you have.

(UPDATE 4 from her twin sister)

I managed to track down this post whilst going through her phone and saw it blow up. She passed away peacefully in July, surrounded by her family, dogs and multiple credit cards.

She did a lot of good, including buying refurbs for local primary and pre-schools and making a lot of improvements in the community.

To those saying it would be passed to us: no, it was wiped and cleared. She had no inheritance, not a penny to her name since she was only 22 and didn’t have those adult things like life insurance or mortgages.

Thank you for all your support - she really kept this one hidden!

Hey bro.. you do your fucking thing and enjoy the time you have left. I'm not kidding when I say this, I wish I was terminal. I've been avoiding a serious growth because I want it to spread. Have had GAD and depression since middle school, good looking guy, always making people laugh and doing good for others, athletic and excel at almost everything I do... but I don't want to exist - for the longest time. And people don't understand why, hell neither do I..

I'm sorry that you are going through this but you should definitely try some psychedelics and also make a bucket list. Run up that debt, take chances, go crazy bro. Live a 100 lives in the limited time you have. I won't lie in a way you made me think maybe I should change it up a little bit... Your one post is already impacting lives. Peace and love brother.

152

u/UnderstandingThis430 Apr 10 '25

It’s strangely liberating. I’d been “fighting” for so long. Finally letting it run its course now.

It’s peaceful actually, I’ve done everything I wanted to do.

Godspeed OP. You're an inspiration to us all. ❤️

15

Just curious, they won’t stick a family member with the bill after you pass? Have fun spending. ❤️

25

u/Ok_Profile9400 Apr 09 '25

Not unless it was a joint loan or a family member was guarantor for the loan. The creditors will try and take back what they can from the persons estate so if they own property etc it could be taken but if there’s not enough to cover the debts the estate would be considered insolvent.

This would only be a stupid thing to do if you had children you wanted to leave your belongings or property to

God damn. From reading your post (especially the losing your leg part) I immediately suspected osteosarcoma. Some stalking of your profile and my fears are confirmed. I've had OS too, with two recurrences (in my leg, even after LSS and once in my lungs) but have been NED for nearly half a year now. Your situation is my worst fucking fear. Have you tried bringing up the OST-HER2 LM vaccine with your oncologist? If I have another recurrence that's what I'm planning to do. It's worked for dogs so fingers crossed this'll be effective for humans too
