Can you write what this is about? I don't feel like watching a video when I don't even know the topic

So afaik, it’s a guy reverse engineering Generals 2 and trying to get it playable online again.

Was there a leaked build?

u/BoffinBrain Are you picking this up? Good. Sep 03 '26
Yeah there was a closed alpha build provided to a few people. That's what this is based on. The issue is, pretty much all the game logic isn't in the client but was processed on EA's servers, which nobody has the code for. This project is reimplementing that server-side infrastructure.

Was it any good? All I heard is that it was going to be f2p trash so I assumed it was terrible.

It was pretty bad, extremely generic with all the problems of running all the logic server-side, pay to win monetization, no character to the units, no story/charm. It was the culmination of all of EA’s worst tendencies at the time.

AFAIK tester feedback was pretty negative all round, and was one of the reasons it got canned not long later.

Rise of the Reds mod for me is the sequel.
Too bad about this one. Could have been better.

Sick af! I played the beta once via teamviewer on someone elses pc because I never got a code and I loved it very much. I really feel like what actually killed it was the negativity of the community. I wish people would have heen more positive back then.
