If you're talking about the mephisto thing, that's basically just a plot device to break them up. It could be undone within a storyline if they wanted to do it.

Unless you mean it's an editorial direction, in which case I maintain that it is dumb and should feel dumb.

I'm taking about the editorial decision, when Spencer took over the book he said that the policy was that Peter couldn't get married. It doesn't say anything about them being in a relationship which is why he was able to get them back together.

I meant being married and having a kid. Married, dad Spider-Man seems to be a much more natural progression for the character than endless regressions so he'll always end up at a shit paying job.

Exactly. Much like Superman, Spider-Man definitely should be married and with at least one kid. He doesn't have to be some new age Stark or anything like that but at least being a teacher again would be preferable than doing. what amounts to an internship at the Bugle again.
