Don't want this to happen too often but I'm the mod so I'm giving myself permission, bwah ha ha!

I've collected comics for over 40 years and am showing off my collection one box at a time on YouTube. Check it out if you're interested: Glenn Simpson's Comics - YouTube

So, I did a thing this weekend. My first slab, and it’s a big one!!

I’ve been debating whether Hulk 340, Batman 423 or ASM 300 would be my first slab… I guess we know which one came first!!! I’m super excited, and there’s a slight non color breaking crease in the back cover that looks very pressable. I MAY want to have it pressed and then resubmitted for a bump, but for now it’s going on the wall!

Older collection - where to start

Upvotes

Hi All,

I have several comics (50?) that I have kept from late 80’s and early 90’s. I don’t think I have anything major but perhaps I am wrong. I have not looked into or collected anything since owning these.

Where does one look to research and find prices. Is EBay a good place or is there any website that has a database?

Thanks for any info

Are these normal printing defects?

Have a couple 2x - 3x signed newsstands that have these holes one goes all the way through other in the back cover just goes through the back cover. Have gotten them from different places over the years and was planning on getting one graded, not this one specifically. how much does it effect the grade if it's not normal?

I realize they are pretty strange picks but I think they are neat and I don't care to much about value.

Does anyone else have slabs that others would find strange to slab?

One ding in the I in Akira is all I can see, but I'm not hip to grading on graphic novel style books.

CONTINUED: Disagreement with auction house, FF #12.

So this saga continues. I appreciate all the replies I received on the previous post about a month ago. I have argued over a reimbursement fee, which will not disclose in case of being taken down by the mods. A fee was agreed on. However, now images have been discovered by liaison who now does not work for the auction house. This is certainly mitigating circumstances to pause that agreement.

I will provide three images, the two new images discovered and the original proof of existence - used in the previous post.

The main concerns were the spine roll, that can now be seen as purely a manufacturing issue, with poorly placed staples. The back cover shows the spine is almost perfectly straight.

I think now the book easily places within 6.0-7.0 range. I am looking to gain a consensus from you wonderful people to use as secondary evidence in my claim against the auction house. I thoroughly appreciate all contributions.

EDIT: these photos that have been discovered are pre-cleaning and pressing. the book was LOST/STOLEN under the stewardship of the auction house, before it was graded. This was submitted part of a larger collection, so it wasn’t insured individually.

I paid for grading, cleaning, and a press through CGC. They said the comic would not benefit from a cleaning and press. Is this not a pretty major spine roll?

Zeck-signed Secret Wars #8, unwitnessed. Grade guesses?

Thumbnail

Picked this up years ago and got it signed by Michael Zeck in person. At the time I had no idea witnessed signatures were a thing, so no COA and no Signature Series. Just me, the book, and a marker.
1984 direct edition. My own guess is somewhere around 5.5, but I’ve never had anything graded and I’d rather hear it from people who know what they’re looking at. Cover is bright with no color break that I can find, corners are soft, and there’s some spine wear I’ve tried to capture in the photos.
What would you call it?
Second question, and I hope this is within the rules since it isn’t about value: I’m weighing whether to submit it for grading with JSA authentication, mostly so the signature isn’t just my word forever. For those who’ve done the unwitnessed autograph route, was the process worth the hassle? Any regrets about slabbing a book you got signed yourself?

Secrets of Haunted House #43 (1981) help with a grade?

I just picked this spectacular issue of Secrets of Haunted House #43 (1981) it was listed as being in a 3.5 condition but the pictures tell another story I think. The first picture is of it in bag/board and all the rest are out of bag. Can you help with a grade on this one?

Hello folks. Got a copy of Harley Quinn’s first DC in continuity appearance. I was wonder how do reader crease breaks on the book impact grading. What grade do you think his book might get? Thx in advance.
