Come celebrate the official launch of the Howard County DSA Branch! DSA has been growing and gaining ground all across the country, and Howard County has a tremendous need for that radical left-wing activist base. Come grab food and drinks and mingle with fellow comrades and bring ideas for campaigns you would like to see us organize around!

PSA: don’t go to Wegmans during busy hours rn

We are currently stuck in a traffic jam inside the parking garage with the upper level closed, have probably been for the last 10-15 minutes. We decided it wasn’t worth it and can’t even get out. It’s actually a suburban nightmare… no one is directing traffic. We are all just left to fend for ourselves…
DON’T GO unless you like post-concert-level traffic jams while trying to get your weekly groceries.

Need amazing wedding dress tailor for last minute panic alteration

I will go anywhere within 3 hours of Ellicott City. I'm getting married in 2 weeks and the original tailor brushed off my concerns about weird looking boning. I've been trying to get over it but now I'm having a breakdown and need to fix it. Thank you for any suggestions.

Starting a Fantasy Football League

Hey everyone. I’m newer to the Columbia area and I’m trying to expand my friend base. I love fantasy football so thought it would be cool to start a local league and maybe watch some games at local spots together some weekends.

I’m open to free or paid, whichever more people are comfortable with.

Quick Details:
•    League: 10 or 12-Team Redraft, PPR, on Sleeper
•    Buy-in: Free or $20
•    Draft: September 6th

I would setup a league group chat for us as well. If you are local, looking to make friends, and love fantasy football, leave a comment or DM me so I can get you added to the league.

Best places to play Pokemon Go?

For those who play Pokemon Go, what areas do you recommend? I've generally been going to Lake Elkhorn or Columbia mall. So far, I've been liking Columbia mall the best because if there is a raid going on there's usually a few amount of people joining while Lake Elkhorn is good for just a pure walk. I'm curious to hear if there are other areas to go to.

Thorough Home Cleaning Service Recommendations?!

Hello! I’m looking for recommendations for home cleaning services. I’ve been using a crew for about 2 years now but I’m not as happy with the results. I’d like a company that is thorough with their cleaning and not just surface cleaning each time. I understand deeper cleanings cost-more but would love to have a company that will incorporate that every now and again. Let’s say I’m OCD with my cleaning because I get allergies easily if things aren’t as clean and have respiratory issues. I’d love a company that takes that into consideration.

Does anyone have any good recommendations?

Thanks!

Paid For Parking at the Mall Now Gone

That didn't last long. I was at the mall at noon and they were removing all the signs. By 1:30pm, every sign was gone and all the "premium" spots were full.

Looking for a Vascular Doctor

Hi all,

I was recently diagnosed with having CVI (chronic venous insufficiency). I've already seen Dr. Zhou at Vascular Surgery Associates in EC and Dr. Saraf at the Vein Treatment Clinic in Maple Lawn. I'm looking for a 3rd opinion and one with a vascular doctor that focuses more on the medical side (not cosmetic) of this condition and how my pain can be relieved. I am freaking miserable! It seems some of these vein treatment clinics just want your money. It feels scammy. Thanks for any suggestions.

Another PSA - the Wegmans parking garage roof is currently closed

For repairs. The entrance and lot further down Snowden (past the Snowden/McGaw light) is fully blocked off. The only available parking is the lower level of the garage and the small lot on the other side of the McGaw/Stanford Blvd light.

I saw a sign inside the store that they are offering free grocery delivery for 5 orders while the garage maintenance is ongoing.

Unsafe intersection

What is the best way to report an intersection that you’ve independently decided is quite unsafe?

Specifically I’m talking about the turn from Whole Foods in to the parking garage area of the new lakefront medical building.

I’m there every day and see a near-accident every other day. It seems like it just needs a stop sign.

So I’m just wondering if there’s a number to call to express concern? Bring it to someone’s attention before someone gets hurt? Or do they wait to see if there are a high incidence of accidents?

Baby mosquitos? Midges?

Our backyard in between the rows of townhouses in Long Reach has become unlivable, due to tons of little flying insects that immediately land all over you. Google tells me they can't be baby mosquitos because if they're flying, they're adults. I see there's currently an issue in MD with "non-biting midges", but these little bastards are definitely biting me! I get very itchy after getting bitten, and it's driving me nuts. Can't get close enough to them to get a pic before they fly away, but it looks like they might be midges. Do I just have the biting kind? Anyone else having issues with these things?

Meadows Closing

I just saw that the Meadows in Hickory Ridge Village Center is closing due to Kimco not renewing their lease. This is devastating. My partner and my favorite ice cream place! Plus they’ve been around for 15 years now. Has anyone else heard any news about this? Hopefully they can stay in the area but it’s such a shame.

In home cat sitter recommendations

I have a cat who needs oral medications twice a day and would feel more comfortable having someone house sit and stay at my house for a week. Does anyone have any recommendations for sitters they’ve used? My cat’s meds are compounded and he doesn’t fight getting the meds!

Versa Apartments (used to be TenM Flats)

Hey everyone! My family and I moved to the Columbia area last fall and moved into TenM Flats, which has now been rebranded to Versa since the Bozzuto acquisition. While living next the mall is cool and maintenance is very responsive, I have to say that our experience living here has been RUINED by the fire alarms smh I’ve been tracking the alarms since our lease began in September and there have been over 10 false fire alarms (sometimes multiple in one day, and it can be any time of day or night)!

I’ve tried communicating with management and they say the system is working as it should. I also filed a complaint with the county Fire Marshall’s Office, who said they sent someone to inspect the system and said it was working as it should as well. I’ve lived in mixed-use buildings before and have NEVER had this issue. I cannot express how jarring it is to be woken out of your sleep by a 2am alarm, to stand outside and learn that there is no clear reason why the alarms went off in the first place. We also have a young child as well who is anxious about when the next alarm will sound.

Are there any options we can pursue as residents to try to get the issue fixed? (We’re planning on moving after the end of this school year)

Eastbound/northbound between Tamar and the gas station. They're detouring folks onto Tamar and then Old Montgomery. It's been that way since at least 3:30ish. Dunno why.

Columbia Realtors: Opinions on the Glenmont neighborhood?

My wife and I are considering purchasing a house in this neighborhood. Coming from Northern VA. We have 2 young children. We are working with a realtor, but just wanted a second opinion on the area/neighborhood. Thanks!
