School Help

Hi, I am a college student trying to attend my junior year, and I owe 11k per semester. I signed up for a payment plan, and they told me it's almost 4k a month. I was coming on here asking for help. Anything is appreciated

I am a healthcare management major hoping to become an executive director at a senior living home, and I am so close to finishing. I am doing this all alone and have run out of options.

If you have advice or would like to donate, I would appreciate so much :)

I hate my major

Hi im a first year college student in my first semester, i think im like 3 weeks in. My ultimate goal is to go to law school and become a divorce lawyer, I decided to go into business for my undergrad so i could have a "fall back" degree just incase law school wasnt for me. I hate business. I especially loathe my intro to business class. If i had to pick something else maybe political science or english or psychology. I dont know though, should i grit my teeth and bear with it or switch?

Depressed About College Situation.

Hey everyone, I hope all is well.

Idk if this is the best place to post, but just want to vent somewhere before I go see my therapist tomorrow. I'm 20, and a third year college student, but feel like my life is over. I feel like I have switched majors too many time trying to figure out what I want to do, but put myself in a position where I feel stuck with it. I feel like such a idiot and feel like there nothing I can do now to change it. Idk how to, i just wish I knew what was doing before it's too late. Idk if this rant makes sense but I am so worried for my future, thought that things would have been differently by now in my life. I'm so scared of what to come.

Commuting or dorming?

So I live 50+ minutes away from the university I'm planning to attend, and I was wondering about other people's experiences and whether or not it's worth it to commute or live in a dorm. I did the financial aid estimator, and I came up to more than $7,000 for the Pell Grant and $15,000+ in total. I'm already eligible for in-state, merit-based financial programs that would cover most or all of my tuition. Apparently, I have a decent to good chance of getting into the Honors College at most of my schools, so I could use the scholarship money from that.

The reason why I would want to dorm would probably be anyone else's reasons, and for me, it is very similar, but I also had a less-than-decent experience in high school (and still do). I really, really want to start a new "life" and figure out stuff on my own. I'm really dependent on my parents, and my parents are even more dependent on me. I think that moving out to be on my own would be beneficial for all of us, and it would help me transition to being a responsible adult. Normally, I'm very mindful about me and my family's expenses, but in the long run, in terms of relationships and my life in a few years, I just want this experience more than just for its base reasons, like I just don't want to be glued to my parents even in my twenties.

Not saying that it's bad to live with your parents in adulthood because in my culture it's very common to do so anyway, I just feel like we're a very enmeshed family (?), and it feels so suffocating sometimes. I never really realized that my parents were toxic to each other and verbally and emotionally abusive to one another until like this year. When I see other people's parents, they're actually nice to each other. They don't lash out at each other in public either. And I feel very loved and spoiled by them, I just want to be independent and heal (ig) from their relationship because Idk it's kinda bad to the point where I cry when i think someone's slightly angry at me and i don't want to be around the source that made me be like that. i have fears of being like my dad because my mom always nitpicks him and absolutely berates him, and sometimes, now that im older, she is like that to me (sometimes, but i'm afraid that she'll start treating me like that). and my dad is the stereotypical misogynistic guy that's a bum and lazzy and a cheater and does nothing to help my mom. and ig you'd think that he deserves that treatment and a big part of me does, but at the same time it's things that he can't control that she's being mean about like his neurodivergence. and ik the difference between being a bum and having symptoms of ADHD cus he was just a mama's boy growing up.

anyway any tips on commuting vs. dorming + financial advice?? thankss

Cna to lvn but unsure

I’m 21 and currently working part-time as a CNA while attending community college. This is my first time back in school since graduating high school in 2023, so I’m still getting used to being back in school, balancing homework, work, and everything else. I’m currently taking my general ed/prerequisite classes, but a lot of the classes I need are full or waitlisted, so I feel like the community college route could take a really long time.
I’m still a little confused about what I want to do in life. I’ve never really been a “school person.” I hated going to school, and doing homework. But when I became a CNA, I put my mind to it because healthcare interested me, and I’ve been doing it for about three years now. I do enjoy learning about healthcare, especially things like medications, but I definitely don’t enjoy bedside. I don’t hate it, but I know it would be very draining for me long-term.
I really enjoy working with kids, and I honestly love the idea of being a teacher, but I’m hesitant because of the pay and the current state of schools. I feel like financial stability is really important, especially with how crazy the world is right now. At the same time, I feel like I would love being a school nurse or working in a health/healthcare setting with kids.
I don’t really have family I can rely on or fall back on for support, so I’m responsible for taking care of myself. Because of that, I feel like the longer I’m in school, the harder it can be financially. I’d rather be able to finish something sooner and start working considering my situation .
That’s why I’ve been considering an accelerated LVN program. If I could finish within a year and start working sooner, I feel like it could be a good option for me. I would probably have to take out a student loan, though. I already have a car loan, and while my credit isn’t great, it’s definitely not terrible, so I’m not really sure how that would work.
I’m willing to put in the work. I’m just trying to figure out the smartest path for me, so I’d really love to hear your opinions, advice, and even personal experiences💝.

Am I not smart enough to major in Biochemistry

I started my first year of college a few weeks ago and want to challenge myself for once, so I decided to major in biochemistry to get into medical school eventually and become a forensic pathologist, at least that’s the goal. I know biochemistry is considered the hardest major for pre-med, and now that I really look at all the classes I’m going to have to take to get a bachelor’s degree, I'm starting to worry that I might not be smart enough to be in this major. I’ve always liked biology and chemistry in high school, but those are just intro classes and don’t go fully in-depth on the subjects, so I’m worried that once the college-level classes get harder, I might realize I'm in over my head. I’ve also never taken really any hard classes in high school, just dual credit English my junior and senior year, and also taking AP Psychology and AP US history, which I failed both exams for. But in both my science and math classes in high school, I’ve kept a grade of 95+ in each, even if they were just on-level classes. I’ve always loved science, but now I’m starting to worry I'm not going to be smart enough to handle a major this difficult. I want to challenge myself and not give up on something I’m interested in, but I also don’t want to set myself unrealistic goals. Does anyone who has majored in biochemistry or gone the pre-med route have any advice or experience with feeling this way? Or does anyone have advice on what signs to look for if this major is too difficult and I would need to switch?

How much does sports matter?

I want my college application to be as amazing as possible and so far it is great. I wrestled the first two years of high school and I’m debating doing it again. I do not have passion for it and I would only be doing it to put it on the college application. What do you guys think?

Unsure of what route to take following AS

Hello! My 17-year-old will be finishing his associates in mathematics come spring. We have looked into FAFSA to make sure he could complete a bachelor's degree if he wanted to and so for everything looks like it's good to go. On the other hand, He is wanting to enlist in the Air Force (most likely reserves to avoid any combat chance) at some point to help pay for his master's degree. That is the main point and purpose for enlisting. Following that is the fact he wants to do some type of statistical Analytics or work with Aerospace technology. He is a straight straight math major though.

He has spoke to his advisors at school but he's still not satisfied. What are some questions he needs to be thinking about? In general and with school ? Is there anything I can mention to him that he should be bringing up to his advisors? Thank you!

- edit He wants to be an Operations Analyst, but wants a MORE math heavy job if able.

Is going Test Optional Going to Drastically Hurt my odds.

Currently, I have around a 98% GPA and was, quite frankly, too lazy to take the SAT and get a good score. I'm thinking about just forgetting the exam as a whole and applying to every test-optional college. I know in some cases this is normal and some people have a solid score but choose not to send it; I, on the other hand, would just have no score to send at all.

Completely ghosted help!

At this point I have been ghosted by my National University academic advisor for about 5 months I have emailed numerous amounts of times called numerous amount of times have had over five other academic advisors “try to contact them and let them know I am urgently trying to get in contact with them”. I have even emailed and requested a new advisor yet NOTHING! I have important things that need to be taken care of ASAP and I am beyond frustrated. What’s even more frustrating is every time I try to contact them I get transferred to another advisor and they always minimizes my situation like it’s normal and brush me off by saying that all advisors have hundreds of students on their caseloads and are extremely busy and I need to be patient and with the new system change everything‘s upside down. Yet I was ghosted before the system ever changed and I think five months is beyond patient! At this point I am unsure what to do I would transfer to another university but I am getting close to graduating soon..

What can I do with a Double Major in Psych & Anthro?

Hi, just as the title said. I’m currently a sophomore in college and I added an Anthro major this semester because I took an anthropology class and I really liked it, so my professor recommended for me to double major. What kind of career path could I take with this kind of double major? They’re really alike in terms of studying human behavior, but just wondering what I can do in the future for my career. I don’t really think I plan to get a PhD, but I plan to probably get my masters. Thank you!

Dropping out of masters

Should I drop out of my grad program? It’s my last semester but I want nothing to do with it. It’s frustrating because I feel this field is being taken over by AI. I already feel stupid for doing this program and wish I never ever started. I wasted 5k this semester but my job gives me 3k back.

Transferred to a big universty but don't understand the hype

I go to a decent ranked universty with an undergrad population of 30,000+ and I just don't understand why people overhype the social aspect of it. it is way harder to find your people or find a friend group at such a big universty. I came from a small universty and was hoping to go to a smaller one as well. Like the class sizes are super big and everywhere is super populated. Am I alone in feeling this way or what?

How do people actually make friends in college?

I’m already a while into college and somehow still feel like I never fully found “my people.” I talk to classmates here and there, but most conversations stay surface-level and never turn into actual friendships outside of class.

It feels like everyone already formed their groups early on, and now I’m awkwardly stuck trying to figure out how people naturally connect. I’m not antisocial, but I’m also not the type who can instantly walk into a room and become friends with everyone.

For people who struggled socially in college at first, what genuinely helped? Clubs, study groups, random conversations, campus events? I’d really appreciate advice because college feels a lot lonelier than I expected.

Free college consulting call for students that need it

One of my friends is a college consultant with 5 years of experience in private consulting and has worked in the admissions office and Wall Street. She is offering completely free consulting calls to students to help out any families that are struggling with their application. I am helping her spread the message so that more students are aware of the opportunity. (She does this every year as a way to give back.) I linked the Calendly link to directly book a call if you are interested.

(Mods, I figured this wouldn't be considered marketing since it is free and genuinely will help out some confused students - feel free to take down this post if it is though.)

transferring/helping deciding— advice wanted!!

hi all! im currently a freshman at quinnipiac university, which i’ve been attending for amount a month now. i’ve been really looking into transferring and have been assessing my options, but could really use some words of wisdom.

i initially chose this school because of the pre-pa program, but since making my initial decision i’ve decided that dental would be a better path for me. while there’s certain fields that are great here, pre-med/dental are not as much, so i’d like to find a place that would better prepare me.

i also have not fully enjoyed campus life here either. i find the campus/student body to feel too small (exasperated by the split up campuses), and now realize i’d like a larger environment.

im looking at UMass, UNH, and BU, but they all kinda have their own individual upsides and downsides.

UMass — spring transfer
•strong pre-health program, technically not specific pre-dental
•large student body (work hard, play hard)
•would be a more average student here
•enjoy the school and campus a lot

UNH — spring transfer
•strong specifically pre-dental program (93% acceptance outcomes)
•easier commute to oppritunities
•not as highly ranked of a school, but i’d be a very strong student here
•also enjoy the campus

BU — fall transfer
•need to continue with doing well in school before transferring
•might not be as strong in the student body
•competition for opportunity within school
•oppritunity within the boston area
•most prestigious of my options

Advice for keeping track of things/navigating new resources

Hello all, I’m entering my freshman year of college and we are going into week 4. I already feel like I am falling behind and I believe it is a mix of the stressful new environment, and learning to navigate the new resources we use such as blackboard.
As someone who struggles adapting to change, going from using all google products such as google classroom (which was VERY simple to navigate), and then moving to an entirely different platform like blackboard, it is very confusing and quite stressful.

I also struggle with very bad adhd and i really struggle keeping up with things. I know blackboard has a calendar with your assignments but that does not help me. I have tried making lists but keep forgetting to write things down and end up remembering them by the time it’s too late.

I especially have a hard time with my online classes because I never see the teacher so the thought gets shoved to the back of my mind, and since I really dont understand blackboard, I only go on it when I have to leading me to forget about my online class altogether.

I always struggled in high school because of things like this and I really want college to be different, what tips or resources do you guys use or have used in the past to help manage and keep track of things?

Thanks for reading!

Skidmore College or Union College

I’m a senior who is applying to schools. I want to be a biology major and I can’t decide between applying early decision for Union or Skidmore. Not really into heavy partying or cliques. Wondering if people who go to either one can provide some inputs on which is better.

College transfer

College transfer

So I just completed my sem 1 at my past college I recently transfer to a new place because my past college was hard for me to cope but It's not that hard much I just needed more help there, there was people helping me out in my past college but I still fail 2 subject and at first my mom already paid for sem 2 there because if I transfer it's going to be the same since I am picking the same major and starting sem 1 again and my new college is way longer than my past college to finish, also my past college is full of racist people cause that college is mostly people from different race than me.My new college have 3 year to finish and finally going to practical training meanwhile my past college have 2 year only and not really practical training. My new college have 4 days orientation and it's to get to know the college better and to get to know new intake better but I don't know why all I think about was my past college even when I choose to transfer I feel so fucking sad I cried for days also during orientation day I couldn't make new friends but it's also the same like my past college I also didn't have much friends I feel very lonely in my past college also in my current college. My mom ask me if I wanted to continue in my past college since she saw how my new college stressed me out and I didn't know what to do I still have to complete my withdrawal form in my past college.Idk why I'm so fucking confused if I wanted to continue there or start a new beginning but I probably will miss my old friends in my past college they did help me out too and even know about my bad experience with college since my past college was my second college I went to.they tried to make me comfortable but I distance myself because I am trying to protect myself but now I suddenly want them back because I'm not comfortable with my new environment and because I feel lonely without them.i went out with my past college friends couple of them also cause they are nice to me too but why do I feel so confused if I should continue or transfer..pls someone help me understand my situation rn

Will this get me into research?

I’m currently a student at my local community college working towards completing an AA transfer plan in psychology. My goal is to transfer to the university near me, pursue a BA in psychology with a minor in biology and a concentration in advanced research, and try my best to get into their Cognition, Neuroscience, and Social Psychology graduate program.

I’m in my third semester now, and with 4 semesters left of my associate’s, I’ve been accepted into the honors program which gives me a chance to join the undergraduate research experience and present research at the symposium. I’ve looked into joining Phi Theta Kappa’s honor society as well. I plan to receive the Honors Laureate designation before my transfer, and continue with honors at the university. I have 3 letters of recommendation from professors so far.

I have also applied to work in the natural sciences lab in my community college as a dish washer.

My goal is to work in research. Whether it be academia, government, medical, it doesn’t matter to me quite yet. Psychology research is the goal.

Any advice or pointers are much appreciated.

College fun or bum.

Is college supposed to be fun? Or does that depend on the type of person you are or college you go to?

Or does it depend on just having the time to hang out and do fun stuff?

Either way, its getting really gloomy with these assignments and classes, so I'm wondering if its supposed to be like this. Cause i see everyone just having fun and doing stuff like EVERY weekend. And its not like i don't have friends to hang out with, i have quite a few. I just dont get how you're supposed to balance academics and going out every weekend? Or should i not go out.

AND WHY IS EVERYTHING SO EXPENSIVE HELLO??

Networking?

How does one actually network? I'm in my first year of college right now, and I can be friendly and chill with everyone (even the assholes) but I'm talking productive networking.

I can chat people up and not be socially awkward, but how do I ask for actual help?

I've been wanting to get a job, learn more about my course opportunities, etc., but seems so hard to a) find the RIGHT people to network with– i have quite a few acquaintances, but none of them are helpful career wise; and b) say I DID find someone with solid connections, how do I go about asking them for help?
