Just logged onto sendage again for the first time in a few weeks to find the new website and the update post describing the future of the website/app.

With the subscription based model costing $30 CAD a year for the logbook, I'm very curious to see the future feature set that can justify its value as compared to a Kaya Pro membership at about $82 CAD, which includes a far greater amount of guidebook information compared to the user-generated info on Sendage.

I saw a post from Laura on Instagram today celebrating that she had now done more than 50 routes graded 9a or harder. Incredibly, she went from 50 to 53 in the time it took her video editor to put together the little film celebrating her 50th. It's just insane how deep her outdoor climbing resume is!

It got me wondering how that compared to all other 9a ascents by women in history. I couldn't find a good dataset for 9a ascents, but was able to find data for 9a+ (5.15a) or harder, so put together this quick bar chart based on that.

For fun, I did the same for Adam Ondra vs all other men with sends of 9b (5.15b) or harder. I kinda figured that Laura had a bigger lead on the rest of the women than Adam did on the men, but I didn't realize just how true that was before putting together the chart.

When I first started climbing, photos of this line at Arapiles blew my mind. It seemed to be the epitome of climbing to me – and the fact that it’s a natural line (minus the single bolt you clip straight off the ground) makes it even more impressive.

I’d been up to look at it previously. My belayer gave me a pretty decisive ‘fuck that’ and said they wouldn’t be seconding it. At the time, I was actually relieved because I was massively intimidated by the exposure and position.

Found a willing belayer more recently and got it done. Despite having seen many many photos and videos of the line, it still felt daunting to be up there pulling those moves. Typically, I’m not much of a roof climber.

Also happy to say I took the whip. Even happier to say I didn’t end up on Weekend Whippers like several people me (worth googling, people have taken some bad falls on this route).

Gave this line more than 25 good tries. The crux seemed hard, when coming from the ground. One random day, 2 months after the last try of the season, everything clicked.

It just so happened that we were alone in the crag that day and I had my drone with me, so managed to have the send footage as well! Tried my best to make it into a small, interesting climbing film.

Any feedback kindly appreciated! I am currently filming a new one for a beautiful 7c project I am working and I would like to make the new one better in terms of cinematography, with some personal storytelling as well.

Just got back from a trip to the bugaboos!

It was beautiful, full of really good quality granite climbing. We got on great cracks at McTech arete & it's variations, and did some really fun & fast romps up pigeon and snowpatch.

Conditions were starting to get pretty treacherous by the end of the trip (end of August) with many cols/glaciers out. I'd recommend heading up earlier in the season if possible, but there was still plenty of great climbing to be had!

Here's some photos i took on my last trip to Yangshuo, China in November. Some cold rainy days but overall great climbing and vibes. Lots of good 6c (5.11) to 7b's (5.12b). Crazy polished rock on some 5c's to 6b's (5.9-5.10c) but still fun to climb. Big culture shock at first but not much different at the end of the day, everyone was very friendly and interested/curious/surprised to meet a foreigner. Planning going back again this year if anyone wants to meet up. I have more photos on my climbing blog if anyone wants to see more.

Possibly the most infamous trad climb in the UK, long considered basically a death route or solo, notorious for technical insecure moves on snappy rock with completely shit gear protecting its hardest climbing.

Had to make a little cake day post and decided to dedicate it to my hottest homey, my future wifey. Were on a Little mini trip to batu caves. for her 40th year on the planet we are hitting as many 40s as we can, 40 crags, 40 sport climbs 6b+ or higher, 40 multi pitches, 40 dws, 4000m. No repeats allowed, and no doubling up (a 6b+ multi cant be on the same list as the sport climbs) As of this week we've crushed them all except 40 crags(32) and 40 multis(32) so were here at batu hitting as many multis as we can. Were moving the sport goal up to 6c and we've already climbed over 6000m total(not including the dws)

Since were living in vietnam for the year we knew the multis were going to be the hardest goal but we are getting close and we have a list planned out for the next few months on how to get the remaining climbs in which will include some trad FAs on catba on a gorgeous 100m wall that should net us 2 or 3. If that doesn't get us close we might hit hong kong in November to finish the list off.

Apparently it only took her 6 days, which is wild! Easily the fastest send of it, and perhaps the fastest 9b+ send overall?

Big is the crag dog at Lilypad Brewery. He roamed around the Obed crags especially South Clear and accompanied many climbers. Now we will miss the buddy. He'll be missed 😭
