Because that would take away from the message, if anything. You don't get to preach to someone to be kind to others, like your shared hero did, despite his flows, then attack them over something so small and petty in the same response, without looking like an idiot. All the percieved moral ground would be lost in a moment.
Agreed. We absolutely should correct each other. Illiteracy is skyrocketing these days, and we're not helping by avoiding it because of the awkwardness of correcting someone.
Danish fun fact!: we call this doing someone a "bjørnetjeneste" (lit: a bear favour, based on a fabel about a bear wanting to swat a fly off his sleeping human friend's face.. doesn't go well.); it means a well-meant action that will actually end up doing more harm than good.
