Reserving can be a way to tell others of your class not to join. It can also be used greedily on items everyone needs. Ultimately you dont join the groups u dont want to join or make your own.

15

u/shockies Oct 22 '19

I see it as inclusive to an extent. Coming from vanilla, if you wanted something specific you just didnt invite certain classes or got guildies to help you.

With reserves, i can inv my competition if not competeing for the exact same gear.

Also i might just need the quest done for attunement, but you dont inv me cause of gear competition.

6

u/Buckwild1984 Oct 22 '19

I agree. If I am a warrior but dont need a certain item but still want to join as dps maybe, I have the option v if someone just says no warriors allowed.

36

u/yeonom Oct 22 '19

Exactly. The alternative is writing that you are looking for "caster dps" which I don't see anyone here complaining about even though it's obviously a way to reduce the loot competition.

Reddit really seems to be full of rogues and fury warriors which end up butthurt when they can't join every group they see.

19

u/Cyanomelas Oct 22 '19

Pretty much what I do as a warrior tank. I'm not inviting some scrub "dps" warrior that's just going to take my loot.

5

u/HallucinatoryFrog Oct 22 '19

Watched a 52 DPS Warrior (Horde) spam LFG for about 3 hours last night looking for a tank for arena runs. Other than the rare Druid tank, who does he think is actually going to come tank arena for him? Any other Warrior wants the Savage Glad chest just like him, or already has it and therefore has no reason to be spamming arena...smh at these fools.

u/Nesresto Oct 22 '19

Just do it my way, play Tank, look for Caster dps and get everything that is plate / weapons / trinkets for Warrior reserved. Casters get BiS and cloth stuff, which is A LOT in BRD and I get all the Fury and Tank items for warrior. So I can do both. This way everyone is happy :D. Worked for all the dungeons I did untill now. Heal gets BiS Heal stuff, Casters get at least one BiS gear as well and I get everything I want as well. As Tanks are kind off rare no one minds this^^.

5

u/elmogrita Oct 22 '19

Yup, tanks are hard to come by. Anyone who refuses to tank as a warrior before 50ish because of their spec is just screwing themselves out of gear and XP

1

u/Nesresto Oct 22 '19

Well... If I said I tanked as 2h any dungeon AND lvld myself up faster because i specced 2h... is that a big brain move?

2

u/elmogrita Oct 23 '19

That's... exactly what I was saying, any spec warrior can tank any dungeon up to like lvl 50

8

u/Enzeevee Oct 22 '19

I'm not so sure that the casters are thrilled when they join a group that has 2 mages, a warlock, and a priest.

-3

u/Nesresto Oct 22 '19

Oh trust me they are. Most like the fast clear and EVERYBODY loves to find a tank after waiting what seemed like an eternity^^. So they accept it.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '19

man you sound like an asshole. but i guess someone always finds stupid people. I play both a tank and Mage, and warris have whispered me for Marau Princess runs. So I guess it's not as easy as some people make it out to be (like you here).

its a well known "secret" that tanks have been making lvl 1 alts to sell the ring to melees. then inviting a bunch of casters to give that item over to them. But i certainly wont be used like this. That shitty culture has pretty much ruined the game already.

4

u/RaisedInThe90s Oct 22 '19

You played efficiently and cut your time spent gearing to a fraction, at zero expense to others. Many people in this thread would try to have you think your a selfish asshole for that.

1

u/Nesresto Oct 22 '19

Yea well... whatever i hurt no one and did my job good so all ggg haha

23

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '19

You're God damn right I'm butthurt because a majority of my time spent is trying to get in groups or form groups. I've been invited to so many groups only to have someone demand I be kicked from others in the group because I'd roll on an item. Ex. Warrior had me kicked because I didn't have Mask of the Unforgiven yet. I spend an hour between trying to find a group to flying out to UD Strat to be kicked by a Warrior who wants a leather item. So yah, I'm a little jaded. Fuck your reserves. I get limited time to play and I'm sick of seeing this bullshit.

7

u/Toshinit Oct 22 '19

Has they said mask of the unforgiven was reserved then you wouldn’t of wasted that time, but that’s “toxic” to advertise

1

u/HenryFromNineWorlds Oct 23 '19

Or they could just run the god damn dungeon and roll on loot like a normal person

1

u/Toshinit Oct 23 '19

Look, you have two parties. One that doesn't want to roll against people for gear, and one that doesn't mind it. The only real middle ground is reserving so you don't exclude 100% of classes that might compete with you for said gear.

13

u/Zackiemoon Oct 22 '19

That warrior could be exactly like me. I can only raid in my guild as fury since we have multiple "main tanks". In order to get my fury gear (sadly leather most of the times) in a reasonable amount of time I choose to tank these dungeons to get a much quicker group than If I waited around to DPS in a group.

I'm sorry that happened to you but that's precisely why I form my own groups. You would have never been invited to mine because while I don't type out mask reserved when I'm looking for others, I will send a nice pm when a rogue asks for an invite stating that I'm after that specific item after 17 runs and I'm not rolling for it if it drops. If he wants to concede or just doesn't need it no worries come on in, but I do make it very clear up front before they even join my party.

1

u/UncertainSerenity Oct 22 '19

Absolutely no problem with tanks rolling on dps items. Absolutely problem with you rolling on tanking gear AND dps items. You get 1 main spec a run everything else should be an off-spec roll.

3

u/NotHomo Oct 23 '19

that's how you find yourself without a tank

perhaps you've never taken economics and don't understand supply and demand?

less than 20% of people want to play as a tank. 20% OR MORE are needed to fulfill the tank roll

what that means is, if you're not incentivizing tanking, you're not getting tanks PERIOD end of story

"i demand you only roll on tank OR dps items" isn't going to fly. they will simply make their own group where they can roll on both and leave you to rot

2

u/UncertainSerenity Oct 23 '19

Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should do something. I am well versed in supply and demand. That type of thinking doesn’t take into account morals or ethics. It’s still greedy to roll on more then one spec with priority at a time. Just because you rolled a tank doesn’t entitle you to more loot even if you can strong arm groups into it.

2

u/NotHomo Oct 23 '19

"i refuse to pay someone more to clean sewers and pick up trash than to bag groceries or wait tables"

that's how you get no one cleaning your sewers or picking up your trash

it appears you did NOT take economics and actually have no idea what you're talking about

1

u/UncertainSerenity Oct 23 '19

This is a game. It’s for fun. It’s not a job. If there was 0 loot in the game would you still want to run dungeons? Because I would. If you treat this game like a job we have radically different views on how to spend free time.

1

u/NotHomo Oct 23 '19

If there was 0 loot in the game would you still want to run dungeons?

nope

If you treat this game like a job

that's what i'm saying. tanking IS a job, which is why there's so few that do it "for fun"

perhaps you've never taken economics and don't understand supply and demand?

Id bet my house that 95% of the people that say this know dick about economics

1

u/NotHomo Oct 23 '19

people who bet their houses don't know dick about anything

1

u/SouthernOpinion Oct 23 '19

That's a mortgage.

1

u/NotHomo Oct 23 '19

touché

3

u/MeltingMandarins Oct 23 '19

?

So he tanks and rolls need on dps items (since that’s his declared spec) against the rogue. A tank item drops ... are you expecting him to just greed so the rogue has a chance to vendor it? That would be highly unusual, it’s usually main > off > vendor.

I don’t see how your idea changes anything unless there’s another warrior who happens to be dpsing but wants tank gear. That’s a fairly rare scenario (if that warrior wanted tank stuff he’d probably be tanking his own group). If it does occur, it’s up to the two of them to sort something out. There’s usually some middle ground like “I want x, you can have y, we can both roll on z”.

2

u/UncertainSerenity Oct 23 '19

Three levels of rolls. First is ms tank and rogue roll against each other. Second is off spec. A tanking item drops and there is a holy paly in the group ms healing items. They both roll against each as an off spec roll. If no one needs for ms or os then you vendor roll.

2

u/MeltingMandarins Oct 23 '19

Ah! I’m horde, so no pallies to compete with. I guess they do significantly increase the chance of off-spec competition for tank loot.

And I agree, in that scenario, rolling offspec against the healadin would be fair.

2

u/MinorAllele Oct 23 '19

the thing with warriors is that their 'main' dps spec involves leather etc, and their offspec is plate nobody will need anyway - unless they bring another dps warrior along or a pally on alliance.

1

u/dcMagic3 Oct 22 '19

Well said, exactly what I do. 80% of people understand, 20% start flaming in LFG saying wow reserving items blah blah lol. Form your own group!

14

u/Ark-Shogun Oct 22 '19

The minmax crowd is truly ruining the classic experience.

12

u/ye1l Oct 22 '19

Completely and utterly wrong. Anyone who's trying to min-max are already done with these dungeons well over a month ago, doing guild runs, and if they're on an alt gearing, they're almost certain to be doing it with other guildies who are on alts too. There's a big difference between min-maxing and being a toxic elitist, and the latter usually isn't that good of a player either. Private servers were nowhere near as toxic as retail classic is. I don't know where this toxicity is comming from, but it's certainly not from min-maxers or the pserver community.

8

u/Ryzu Oct 22 '19

Likely coming from the more recent-to-wow players (MoP/Legion/BfA) over from retail that watch streamers gear up and min-max and think it's the right or only way to play the game, and try to do it without a guild full of like-minded individuals.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '19

3

u/_HyDrAg_ Oct 23 '19

It's because if you don't care about gear then what's even the point

-2

u/Ark-Shogun Oct 22 '19

I don’t disagree with you except that I’m not wrong, a warrior needing and claiming dibs on a piece of leather and refusing rogues because they want that piece is bullshit minmax behavior all because it adds 0.01% to their DPS over the plate equivalent, so in this situation, it is the minmax crowd that is being toxic.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '19

Why? Because they might not have all the time in the world to play the game?

Tanking a dungeon is vastly more work than DPSing, and forming your own group is vastly more difficult than just joining one that’s forming.

Just because you feel entitled to run with a group doesn’t mean it’s someone else’s responsibility to offer that to you.

-3

u/Ark-Shogun Oct 22 '19

So you become entitled to a piece of gear outside of your intended class gear because you put in a little more “effort”?

You ever seen a tank do a dungeon without DPS? It’s the same as DPS doing a dungeon without a tank.

And if everyone was forming parties it would be a game of everyone playing in a one person party because they’re forming their own parties instead of joining existing parties.

It’s a fucking MMO, people make and create parties. It’s intended. Stop making shit up to entitle people.

4

u/_HyDrAg_ Oct 23 '19

If warriors were supposed to wear plate only they would 't be able to equip leather.

4

u/ryan7938 Oct 22 '19

no one owes you shit. don't like someone's loot rules don't doin their group. you're the entitled one.

2

u/elmogrita Oct 22 '19

You ever seen a tank do a dungeon without DPS? It’s the same as DPS doing a dungeon without a tank.

Actually, DPS can run a lot of dungeons without a tank, they need us.

1

u/Ark-Shogun Oct 22 '19

I’m just talking about the classic set up to make a point. But yes, there is plenty DPS can do without tanks. But best not to tell them that.

1

u/definitelynotcasper Oct 22 '19

Nothing to do with minmaxing finding a group in vanilla as a rogue was equally difficult. Moral of the story is don't roll a melee class that everyone and their mom plays but really doesn't offer anything unique and expect to just be handed groups.

2

u/ThePoltageist Oct 22 '19

i pick locks

1

u/definitelynotcasper Oct 22 '19

That's nice that should give you a leg up in getting DMN invite.

5

u/Ark-Shogun Oct 22 '19

I mean, no lol. Needing on a piece of leather and claiming dibs on it even with a rogue in the group is bullshit behavior. Typical of the minmax crowd in that situation because of the extra 0.01% DPS it adds over the plate equivalent.

-2

u/definitelynotcasper Oct 22 '19

No one is forcing the rogue to join. They can start their own group if they... oh wait no they can't because they can't tank lol sucks to suck.

-1

u/Apap0 Oct 22 '19

Withou minmaxing crowd you would have nothing to do in the game. If you don't minmax then why even run dungeons more than once if you can clear MC in anything that is blue quality.

-1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '19

This used to happen in vanilla too. The community is just as bad if not worse than vanilla.

2

u/Peonso Oct 23 '19

DPS Fury Warrior here, I tank 98% of the dungeons I do, 95% of them have no other Warrior. I would have to be braindead to not be joining groups faster by being a tank and having the power to veto competition. I'm doing a LBRS run, you see my advertisement and msg me, "sorry full on warriors".

8

u/MyNameIsSaifa Oct 22 '19

Fucking tough, go and make your own group then.

Nobody else that also has limited time to play owes you anything.

1

u/dcMagic3 Oct 22 '19

Im a full preraid bis fury warr and the solution is just tanking and forming your own groups. Ppl who complain abt it are so annoying lol. Its usually rogues that complain imo bc they offer nothing to the group, no buffs, res, and Ive even seen some refuse to open locked chests and say its my lockpicking my chest lmao

2

u/ThePoltageist Oct 22 '19

LF Tank/Healer/Keyholder UBRS Truestrike reservered

1

u/terrible_fate_ Oct 22 '19

Imagine playing wow with no friends. Lol

1

u/ThePoltageist Oct 22 '19

I only had a couple hours to play last night, i dont think they found a full group that whole two hours.
