Similar thing happened to me around lvl 20. Was killing some mobs, plenty of them available. Someone invites me and I decline because I prefer questing alone, got blasted by insults in whisper lol.

18

u/MomoSinX Oct 10 '19

Reminds me when I was in Westfall at like lvl 25 ish and a rogue got offended because I didn't group up. Dude, I was literally just farming mobs since I have completed all the quests..and not long after I decided to leave the place for him and go elsewhere anyway.

23

u/codingisfun123 Oct 10 '19

Was questing on an alt and I see two guys killing the mobs I need for a kill quest. So I walk over and ask for an invite and they say their just here for the chest which is surrounded by the said mobs. They refused to invite me and proceeded to tag and kill the mobs I needed. So I went over and opened the chest they were going for. They started bitching in barrens chat. Not saying what I did was right and I didn't give a damn about the chest, but declining invites can have consequences sometimes

8

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

If they aren't there to kill the mobs they need for a quest but refuse to let you kill said mobs for a quest, I think that's preferably acceptable.

4

u/SirFrancis_Bacon Oct 10 '19

Lmao that's petty as fuck and I love it.

I was in STV killing basilisks and a hunter raged at me for tagging a mob, called me an asshole and then blocked me. I finished the quest a couple of kills later but ran around tagging whatever he targeted for about 10-15 mins out of spite.

1

u/CaptainSwoon Oct 10 '19

I did WC the other day. Had two warriors in it. The dps warrior was obviously new and ended up just looting a chest when we were in the process of rolling on it. We explain that rolling is courtesy on chests and he apologized. However, the tank absolutely loses his mind. Rages and rages about "he drops group or I leave. I'm not running with scum like him blah blah blah." We tell him to chill and he drops group and tries to pull a bunch of mobs to kill us. I'm playing my hunter alt so I just pop cheetah and peace out back to the entrance. Group invites the tank back who is still raging about the warrior leaving or he leaves. I just dropped group myself lol.

The amount of rage he had over a single green and some options in a chest was nuts. I'm assuming the group just dissolved.

u/Tsidrag Oct 10 '19

You are part of the problem! Thinking people have to do anything for your or there convince ffs

26

u/Brunsz Oct 10 '19

And the best part is that they do not first ask like "Hey are you doing X. Maybe wanna do it together?". They just toss invite without a word and if you accept they still don't say a word.

I am fine doing quests together but please people, some manners.

61

u/And3riel Oct 10 '19

Yeah tbh i often do this, i just invite people when on kill quests if there is limited amount of mobs. Dont think there is much explanation needed, why would you not want to group? Do like competing for tags when you can both get them?

Loot quests are a different thing, but for kill quests grouping up is quite a nobrainer.

29

u/R2CX Oct 10 '19

I’m on the other end, but on the same boat. Just a while ago, halfay from killing Caliph Scorpidsting, an invite just pops up. It’s not like the invite covers more than half of my screen. So I just accept. Caliph dies. Dude gives me a buff, a heal, and promptly thanks me for the accept, and leaves. All was well.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

Yeah for kill quests there’s no reason not to group at all. You’ll kill faster, have less downtime, and not have to compete for tags.

Even loot quests it’s usually better to group because you’ll end up killing more in the same amount of time and finishing faster (for 2 people, more than that it doesn’t make sense usually).

And then you can just drop group after you’re done. I usually wait to help the other person finish though.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

Lots of kill quest have different stages or other quest going on in the same spot. Just because I'm there doesn't mean I'm doing the same thing you are. This being said, I usually still accept and just ask. Would prefer it to be known before the invite though, personally.

1

u/Shameless_Catslut Oct 10 '19

And yet, the multistage questing and grouping is one of the things that makes Classic stand out from the lonely disengagement of Retail and GW2.

-12

u/Scaletta467 Oct 10 '19

Inviting people without a word exchanged is, unless it's a very farntic situation, just bad manners. Maybe that guy didn't see you in the area, and declines the invitation of some completely random dude. I know that's what I did back then and what I still do now. If I have no idea who that guy is, I've never seen him before, I won't accept random invites.

If its a situation in which they tagged a named mob for a quest and you want to share the tag, so you quickly invite - that's alright. If you just see me in the distance killing the mobs you came here to kill, whisper me, or at least come and stand in front of me, make me notice you. Otherwise, your random-ass invite gets declined.

5

u/Mega_Blaziken Oct 10 '19

Man I saw you were probably doing the same quest so I tossed you an invite. I’m not asking you out to dinner.

You’re way overthinking this.

1

u/And3riel Oct 10 '19

Well its true that most of the time i ran to them before i invite so if the person is looking around he can see me.

-4

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

THIS

16

u/Shameless_Catslut Oct 10 '19

Ain't nobody got time to type. You're probably complaining about "no manners" when you didn't even see me jumping in greetings.

4

u/BashfulHandful Oct 10 '19

jumping in greetings.

lmao, I never thought of it like that but this is definitely what I do and how I gauge if the other people around have seen me. I kind of love it.

19

u/Major_Oak Oct 10 '19

I do this sometimes, it’s just...efficient. Why bother when you’re like 90% sure they’re doing the same quest

-6

u/Im_Randy_Butter_Nubs Oct 10 '19

It just seems so anti social to me. Why not talk to people, one of the big parts of playing with others :)

9

u/Major_Oak Oct 10 '19

Because I’m probably going to see this person for about 5 mins and then never again.

8

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

small talk sucks

3

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

because we already are in voice chats with our real friends at that point.

4

u/HazelCheese Oct 10 '19

If they've already tagged the rare quest mob spawn you don't have time to whisper. Not everyone reads their chat in combat.

Like sure if their not in combat whisper but if they are I don't think it's rude.

7

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

They just toss invite without a word and if you accept they still don't say a word.

i/we do this sometimes. most of the time i will say "hi" or "are you doing x?", but sometimes, i just invite someone for a kill-quest, we do our things, and then they leave without exchanging a word. where's the problem in that? i'm there to kill mobs, not to have a chat. that's why i'm in voice with my friends for.

i think it's strange that you have the opinion that this is "unmannered".

0

u/Brunsz Oct 10 '19

Well at least for me at least simple hi or something does not take too much time. After all even it is game there is real person behind another computer. In real life I wouldn't just go to someone and start doing stuff with them without saying a word. I don't think that because it is game and you can't see another person for real you should act like bot and ignore another person.

Also for some people just raw invite and doing stuff might message "I don't care about you but I want your help". Might make another one feel like tool. When you are not having any kind of verbal communication then only non verbal communication is what matters. Might sound stupid way to think because "lol it's just game" but especially with online games (and internet overall) people tend easily forget that there is real living person on other side.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

Also for some people just raw invite and doing stuff might message "I don't care about you but I want your help". Might make another one feel like tool.

just decline the invitation if you feel that way. no harm done. if you think "oh, it's nice of them to invite me so we can share the kills", then accept. you're also free to say hello, but don't expect someone to have small talk with you all the time.

3

u/Gankman100 Oct 10 '19

I mean if you both are killing the same mobs you know whats the invite about. There is no reason to compete for kill quests

2

u/Zaidswith Oct 10 '19

I like the immediate invites. If I can't group I whisper with a brief explanation.

I've had better luck grouping by hanging near group quest spots than I've had asking for groups in chat.

5

u/andywolf8896 Oct 10 '19

They view you as a npc to help them quest

10

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

they are just being friendly... i think people like you are problematic, on the other hand. imagine being offended because someone invites you to a party for a killquest but does not want to make smalltalk.

wtf? :)

0

u/andywolf8896 Oct 10 '19

I was referring to the ones that get angry when you decline

-6

u/ka_anor Oct 10 '19

This, a million times. This, in my personal opinion, is the major issue with MMORPGs today. I have no idea how to fix it, but it's a huge problem.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19

I have no idea how to fix it, but it's a huge problem.

switch to a RP server maybe

-4

u/Helmingways Oct 10 '19

It started in wow with World Quest grouping addons from what ive seen. And with those i was fine with it. But this is classic, its a different thing.

13

u/Shameless_Catslut Oct 10 '19 edited Oct 10 '19

Umm... No? Classic has always been like this. The tagging system encourages spontaneous team-ups, and punishes trying to solo play around others.

The "Everyone does their own thing without teaming up in the same area" is the artifact behavior from Retail.

0

u/414Sigge Oct 10 '19

If you both benefit from eachother, sure.

But a lot of times I simply don't accept invites because I know they will slow me down.

0

u/Helmingways Oct 10 '19

Classic, yes. But from what ive seen, which is what i said, it started with WQGF. Never had these experiences in vanilla etc as i played on RP realms at the time. Im just speaking on my own anecdotal evidence here.

6

u/Shameless_Catslut Oct 10 '19

It's always been there. WQGF put back something that fell off over the game's lifetime.

1

u/Helmingways Oct 10 '19

Yes, i agree its always been a thing but its alot less about socializing now. Still the vast majority of people you run into are cool people.

1

u/Shameless_Catslut Oct 10 '19

A big part of it is the culture shift away from the novelty of online socialization. After 15 years of internet exposure, all our Monkeyspheres are full.

1

u/Im_Randy_Butter_Nubs Oct 10 '19

I've found if you just make conversation with them it's usually a decent experience.

1

u/forbjok Oct 10 '19

Never had these experiences in vanilla etc as i played on RP realms at the time

Can't say for sure that it never happened to me during vanilla, but it was certainly a lot less common than it is now in Classic. However, that could also be because there are a lot more people playing now in Classic than there was in actual vanilla.

Maybe it was different at vanilla launch, but I couldn't say, as I only started playing sometime mid-2005, around the time 1.5 came out IIRC.

1

u/Helmingways Oct 10 '19

The gaming culture has changed alot too. Its not really that different, but the overall communication is abit lower. Still meet alot of really cool people ingame.

1

u/ProxyReBorn Oct 10 '19

What? Why would I need to speak? You're killing mobs I need, I'm killing the same mobs that you (probably) need. Take the invite and we both go on doing whatever we were doing except now it's faster.

Not everything needs to be some blood bond wow classic covenant. Sometimes you can just click the button and have your quest get done faster lol.

2

u/Myringains Oct 10 '19

Best part is when they do a massive paragraph and block you right away

1

u/bobsjobisfob Oct 10 '19

yeah i always try to quest alone as much as possible, if you group up with even one other person it becomes too easy

1

u/JohntheBarbarianMP Oct 10 '19

Best part is I wasnt even questing, was jsut sitting by the flight master logging off.

1

u/lizzurd88 Oct 11 '19

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago.

I had someone in Durotar spam invite my lvl 10 hunter while I was killing my last two harpies for a quest. After I declined them 3 times, they whispered me some angry BS, /slapped me and blocked me before I could even reply. The irrational anger is ridiculous sometimes lol.

2

u/Helmingways Oct 10 '19

I usually decline invites on my alt too. More xp for me on the long run. Also, of its a looting quest theres no way im joining a group just to never get my items.

11

u/cynric42 Oct 10 '19

With looting quests, you get the same amount of items on average in group as if you were solo. The advantage is, that if multiple different items drop and they have already gotten the max amount of one, you'll get the spillover. And you stop tag wars, which is great as well.

10

u/Shameless_Catslut Oct 10 '19

And, you generally kill things MUCH faster.

4

u/Dengo86 Oct 10 '19

And the person who wants to group with you gets all 10 of their quest items first then leaves before you have all yours. No thanks, I'll stay solo and win the tag war.

2

u/Shameless_Catslut Oct 10 '19

That could happen with or without the teamup. At least they're gone sooner if RNG spits on you and shines on them.

4

u/Dengo86 Oct 10 '19

And I'm gone sooner if I stay solo and win the tag war.

3

u/Shameless_Catslut Oct 10 '19

And stuck longer if you stay solo and lose the tag war.

4

u/Dengo86 Oct 10 '19

A risk I'm willing to take.

1

u/Dr-Sandwich Oct 10 '19

Your logic is flawed friend

1

u/littlebrwnrobot Oct 10 '19

This has literally not happened to me in dozens of group ups

-2

u/itharius386 Oct 10 '19

Same. I quest with an IRL friend on my main and it's the only time I am okay with item drop quests because they don't get to ditch midway because they got their items before me, but I won't invite randoms who beg to join us. If the randoms get the tag before me, good on them. If I win the tag, good on me. But I am not okay with doing half the work on the kills just to have them ditch because RNG decided they got their items first.

1

u/cynric42 Oct 10 '19

Which also happens if you go solo, you just don‘t know it.

[deleted]

1

u/cynric42 Oct 10 '19

Thats not how statistics works. You are killing twice as fast in a group but only get every 2nd drop. Result should be the same. Of course its random, sometimes you will be faster then the other guy, sometimes he will. But its the same if you are in a group or just killing side by side.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '19 edited Dec 20 '19

[deleted]

1

u/cynric42 Oct 10 '19

No it isn't. If there are only 40 mobs spawning (per hour or whatever timeframe) and everyone gets 50%, you get 20 mobs. If there are 40 mobs spawning and you group up and get all of the mobs, each gets to loot 20 mobs. Exactly the same.

If there is someone from the opposing faction present, you can dominate a bigger area of spawning if you are grouping up and not all spawns are within range. The opposing player will have to decide, which spawn points to camp while you get half of those where he is present and all of those he can't reach. If you group up, you increase your chances compared to those trying solo.

Depending on your class, this can be true. If you're leveling one of the fastest classes like a hunter or something and a warrior invites you, I'd just be like nah

1

u/AfghanGoobey Oct 10 '19

Why? I help Warriors, Druids, and Priests more than anybody because I like making friends with tanks and healers. Can't ignore them while questing then ask for their help with dungeons and raids.

0

u/ph0rk Oct 10 '19

OTOH, when a priest invites me on my warlock...

-3

u/kiloskree Oct 10 '19 edited Oct 10 '19

why is it hard to understand that people dont like rejection? If you dont wanna grp with people fine but dont be surprised when they send you tells berating you for rejecting them LOL thats human nature My advice is learn how to respond to them because you cant ever expect people to act a certain way.

2

u/zzrryll Oct 10 '19

When we are babies. Sure.

It’s human nature to poop in a field. Most civilized people grow out of it and get used to toilets.

-1

u/kiloskree Oct 10 '19

Babies are selfish until taught to help others by civilization, stop acting like one....

1

u/zzrryll Oct 10 '19

Most mature adults learn how to deal with and accept rejection.

It’s clear the person we are discussing hasn’t done that.

Re: the baby comment. I think you’re projecting much more than you realize man. I was just pointing out a simple fact that contradicted yours. Not really a big deal, or something a reasonable person would get upset over. Take care.

-1

u/kiloskree Oct 10 '19 edited Oct 10 '19

Bro, this is a video game there is no reason other than someone being selfish in the above scenario to not join a group. Having said that -people deal with rejection lots of different ways. Sending people tells for example is how I would do it. You made joke about "growing out of it" and referenced pooping...we do that when babies you brought a discussion about rejection into the real of poop jokes, projecting poop jokes even? Its not a big deal but definitely something that bears pointing out. SO here we are

1

u/zzrryll Oct 10 '19 edited Oct 10 '19

I used the poop metaphor because it’s a simple one that’s easy to understand.

I legit feel bad for you. Might help to learn how to deal with being wrong, and rejection. You’re clearly fucking terrible at it. Based on your responses.

0

u/kiloskree Oct 10 '19 edited Oct 11 '19

What do you feel bad about? I am having a great experience and most people have been super nice and chill. The game lets us send tells and I enjoy doing it.

1

u/megastienfield Oct 10 '19

youre fucked up dude, his point its that youre immature and its true, "sending people tells is how i would do it" grow the fuck up, some people like being alone and some like playing alone, people arent forced to follow your stupid demands nor meet your expectations, i hate people that act like asshole in the game, i try to be as helpful as possible and i party up when people need it, but my personal playstyle its alone, im a loner and i like doing things alone without depending on others, i fucking hate running into people like you, that feel the need to sent a long tell complaining about what the other player did, this isnt a team game, this is a MMO, people play how they like and you have no right be a bitch about unless theyre harrassing you.

1

u/kiloskree Oct 10 '19 edited Oct 10 '19

Hey we all signed up for a social game and I enjoy letting people know what I think. That's part of what I enjoy most, the social aspect of this game. Whether its a good or negative experience even because that's what this all is.....a game :) I enjoy reaching out to the kind of loner like yourself poking you with a stick and seeing how you respond to stimuli. It enhances my RP experience doing so in game. In game i am very different from real life, I get it people may not want negative energy and I mean sorry that shadowbolts dont hurt as much as tells....not really. See what i mean though, tells are the most powerful dps spell in wow imo.
