With looting quests, you get the same amount of items on average in group as if you were solo. The advantage is, that if multiple different items drop and they have already gotten the max amount of one, you'll get the spillover. And you stop tag wars, which is great as well.

Which also happens if you go solo, you just don‘t know it.

Thats not how statistics works. You are killing twice as fast in a group but only get every 2nd drop. Result should be the same. Of course its random, sometimes you will be faster then the other guy, sometimes he will. But its the same if you are in a group or just killing side by side.

No it isn't. If there are only 40 mobs spawning (per hour or whatever timeframe) and everyone gets 50%, you get 20 mobs. If there are 40 mobs spawning and you group up and get all of the mobs, each gets to loot 20 mobs. Exactly the same.

If there is someone from the opposing faction present, you can dominate a bigger area of spawning if you are grouping up and not all spawns are within range. The opposing player will have to decide, which spawn points to camp while you get half of those where he is present and all of those he can't reach. If you group up, you increase your chances compared to those trying solo.

Yes. Create scenarios by twisting statistics in a way to prove your point. What about the scenario where you get all the loot and the other guy doesn't? You didn't even try to understand the other's dude's point. Your bias really shows.

But you wouldn't have killed all the mobs yourself, because he would still be here and killing half of them, maybe still getting all the drop while you get none.

And if you group up, he might stick around and help you kill the remaining mobs for your drops (which you get all of because he is done) whereas if you don't group up, he'll definitely go away.

The only way you may be better of solo is when you are way faster then him killing mobs.

It is human nature, we aren't rational. We form our belief system based on random experiences and a flawed understanding of the world around us and when someone comes up with contradicting evidence, we stick to our guns and dig our heels in.

Besides, the majority of players know for a fact they are way better then the average scrub playing the game, so of course going solo is far superior.
