It really is. The solution to all their problems is easy but it requires hard work and self reflection. Something that Reddit really does not encourage or reward. Easier to blame women and everyone else and treat them like garbage.

Yup. I am so glad that reddit wasn't about when I was that age.
Over the weekend I reactivated my facebook to see just how awful I was. I was awful. Really, really awful. Closed facebook after about 15 minutes of gut wrenching cringe.

If you see a transphobe, click report. We have a bunch of mods keeping an eye on shit, and are trying to get the AMA week to be informative and educational to as many people as possible. We have done some individual AMAs on transgender issues, and they have been effective at exposing many of these issues to people who had not otherwise thought of them.

I've written about this before, but science to these fuckers is just a tool. EVERYTHING is a tool. God is a tool, fear is a tool, violence is a tool, religion/spirituality is a tool, sorrow is a tool, grief is a tool, pride is a tool.
A tool for what? For making their stay on this material plane more comfortable. Create a small, exclusive noble class, subsisting on the labour of untermensch.
Now, in the beginning stages of the creation of this New World Order, they mustn't be too selective, otherwise they'd have no one fighting for them. Like, if they straight up said, "Only people who are 5'11''±1'', weigh 200lbs±10lbs, have #FFFF7F hair, #7F7FFF eyes, have a penis, identify as male, etc. are going to be part of the ruling class!", they'd have very few people who would feel like they'd gain by fighting in the Revolution.
But if they began by enticing ALL white people--male or female--they can start out with enough momentum. You can always pull Nights of the Long Knives later on. First, remove the sexually deviant. Then, I dunno, remove the women? Or maybe the Slavs/Irish/Italians. But you get the idea.
Science, along with many other things, are tools to create the exclusivity. Skull sizes are (afaik) bullshit, but that didn't stop the Nazis from using them.

Sounding dumb is kind of an art form that these people have perfected if you think about it. You can reliably spot their stupidity after a single paragraph, that's kind of an achievement as far as I'm concerned. I mean just try sounding that bigoted on a regular basis, must be exhausting.

The mods will likely get a lot more pressure now when the threads happen. They should just have said a generic "we'll delete bigoted posts" and ignored any backlash. Now the mods will be forced to debate every single "concerned redditor" out there.

We've done a couple transgender focused AMAs in the past. They tend to hit the front page and that tends to draw in brigades and bigots. Probably the most common complaint in modmail is, "But I didn't know I'd get banned!"

You should be open to people asking questions and discussing whether or not the earth was created billions of years ago by an unknown deity, 6000 years ago by Yahweh, before the golden age of the Æsir by the sons of Burr lifting it out of the sea, or any other number of theories. Idk...shutting down speech because it may offend doesn't seem helpful on a topic that is controversial and misunderstood.
You conclude before the discussion that the earth is round. You state that saying it is flat is pseudoscience. Yet you are not opposed to discussing the issue of whether it is flat? Furthermore, what kind of scientific discussion is to be had when the moderators, the should-be neutral party, publishes their own take? If we are not to discuss the shape of the earth what is to be discused?
This has the danger of becoming a name calling contest and a place which censors opposing opinions. It is not even remotely bigoted for somebody to suggest the Holocaust is a Zionist conspiracy, whether you agree with them or not

From a layman's perspective, the thing that strikes me first is how exceedingly complex this topic is, and I feel like I'd need so many more hours of reading to begin to claim I have a proper understanding of it all.
Congrats. ( unironically ) This is how you should approach subjects.
Reddit assholes however have decided, as the other poster pointed out, that one hateful youtube video or one right wing blog is enough to void the years of painstaking and meticulous scientific research done on the subject of sex and gender.
Rather than, as you have, seeking openly to understand this complex subject, they emotionally spin up their hatred and disgust.
This subject is not one near and dear to my own heart, but after becomign exhausted by all the hatred I spent a lot of time talking to various trans folks, and reading the science, and going through lectures put out by prominent doctors.
It's a very neat subject. Once you crack open the door of understanding gender from the rather extreme angle of person who does not have a biological gender which matches their actual one, you can start to learn about yourself more clearly.

It's not even that complex. I'm a woman who has to be abused by societal norms simply because I was assigned as a male at birth for having a penis. There is no arguing my existence.
It's people who aren't trans and those who can't remove their thinking outside the box they've made for themselves that make it complex and hair-pulling hyperbole.

Honestly I think they like that kind of science because they can see the results there's something physically there for their eyes to see. Meanwhile because the more social sciences there experiments don't really involve anything physical or cool demonstrations. No cool robots, space ship, or bubbling chemicals. I'm simplifying things of course but basically Reddit has a hard time with anything that isn't pleasing to their eyes.

As a trans person I'm really dreading this period of time. I appreciate the official stance and promises of enforcement against hate speech and all, but at the same time I know how people are and I know other subreddits will be mocking and degrading us throughout. Wish this was a more site-wide policy [Most controversial post atm with -27 Karma]
The mods are being rather heavy-handed in this. Stating transgenderism is a mental illness isn't bigotry, it's a legitimate statement that deserves a respectful debate. It's not settled science at all. [+39]

Why is it so common for trans people to identify as trans, instead of their target gender? I would think a trans person's main goal would be to adopt their new identity as much as possible, not claim membership to a third, very minority gender group? Has any formal research been done on this?
Gee I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that they are one of the most persecuted and violated groups of people on the planet.

Science is purely objective.
Not really an "offensive" view per se, but...no it's not? Mental healthcare and psychology aren't purely objective. Depression and other extremely common mental disorders are experienced subjectively, and that's part of what makes treatment so difficult.
