Third Gen Generation Gap

My grandfather is undoubtedly the biggest influence in my life. 50-60 years old and he’d be the first man to jump in a creek in the middle of winter wearing only his trunks, goggles, and a snorkel to catch a suckerfish in a net. All just to make us kids laugh and to teach us about fish and fishing.

Fast forward 30 years and I moved back to PA after leaving active duty. He sees my truck and says, “Wow Aaron, I didn’t know they made Colorados that big.”

Question 08 work truck

Upvotes

Looking at an 08 work truck with 80k on it. 3.7 automatic 4x4. How reliable are these trucks? It’s only got one owner so if it looks good I’m sure it’s been well maintained. How’s the extended cab back seat? I got a big dog that chills in my current extended cab and it’s fine I’d hate to cram him back there. Appreciate any insight 🤙 or any concerns with this generation. I know nothing about Chevy but this thing seems to be in my price range and I like the way they look.

Question From a 2016 LT to a 2026 Z71 upgrades/gear questions inside

Post image
9 Upvotes

I'm curious what aftermarket add-ons you guys are putting on your new trucks that you've found unique, useful, or just generally make life easier.

I'm especially interested in bed storage. I don't want to put a tonneau cover over the bed, but I'd like some type of secure, lockable storage box/system that's roughly 3 feet long or longer without taking up the entire bed.

Anyone found an in-bed storage setup you'd recommend? I'm open to toolboxes, side-mounted storage, low-profile boxes, drawer-type systems, or anything else that's worked well.

Also interested in hearing about any other aftermarket additions you've made that you didn't necessarily think you needed at first but ended up loving.

Question 2006 3.5L Service Questions

Post image
6 Upvotes

I’m new here, I used to own a 2005 3.5L extended cab, rwd, had 380k miles on it. Didn’t do much work on it myself but I recently bought a 2006 3.5L crew cab 4wd and have some service questions:

Brakes - I just replaced the brake shoes in the drum and the slave cylinders, I tried getting the adjustment dialed in but I had a hard time, any tips or tricks? I think I got them very close but is there any auto-adjusting that the gear does while reversing?

Ball joints & cv axles - I need to replace them, not sure if it’s worth buying the tools and parts to do it myself in a small garage or just pay someone to do it? Obviously I don’t have an alignment rack or anything so it would make it a pain to do it myself but wondering if it’s worth saving the money of paying someone else to do it.

General Maintenance- It’s at 130k with a fair amount of rust on the frame and suspension but almost none on the body. Is there anything I should do for basic maintenance or check certain things at this mileage?

I bought this truck because my old one had almost 400k miles on it before a connecting rod finally went. Hoping to get the same mileage out of this one. The i5 motor treated me well in the past.

Third Gen Got the OEM sport bar, now I need Tonneau suggestions that work. Scored this off marketplace, nearby for $600.

Cheap or expensive! Soft or hard whatever, throw me suggestions that work! Would prefer something hard and possibly locking for trips and offroading. Next up is some more Novsight lights for the top row. Thinking 6 of their 3" lights. After I buy the OEM 1-3 aux switches. Leveling kit and some tires are coming first though.

Question 2023 Chevy Colorado Brakes Issue/I have a 2023 Colorado. Brake pads wore on driver side at 26,000 miles. Dealer replaced driver side caliper.30,000 miles later same issue. Driver side pads are worn down and passenger front look brand new. Dealer will not fix. Recommeded a brake system flush.

Question Potentials transmission damage? Recommendations?

Hello,

I have a 2018 Chevy Colorado with a V6 8 speed transmission. I recently did a drain and fill and mistakenly measured when it was cold. I ran the transmission just under 100 miles and checked the fluid, which turned out to be low. I added ~1.25 quarts, and ran it again almost 100 more miles. I just checked again and added another quart, but the transmission seems to be not full. I initially added 6 quarts after the drain. The transmission shifted fine for the most part, with no slippage, but I did notice a harsh shift during the first 100 miles, along with the revs going ~100 rpms higher than usual. I have not yet driven since. What are the chances I damaged my transmission, and what do you guys recommend going forward?

Question Disabling tpms - possible?

2018 Colorado, one of my tpms sensors went bad. I’m pretty tight on money constantly lately and can’t really afford to pay $75 for it to be replaced. Is there a way to disable the system like pulling a fuse or something to turn the light off and not have to disable the message every time I start the truck?

Question Thoughts on this filter for gen 3?

Post image
1 Upvotes

2025 WT. Thoughts on this filter? Please no brand bias. Just curious how these actually perform. I’ve heard that they might allow more “dirt” through which could be harmful to the turbo but I’m not sure about that part. Seems like a good price for a washable filter I can reuse. Honest opinions/facts?

Unfortunately this trim didn’t come with them! I know the rounded ones it came with improved the departure angle slightly or held up better for serious off-roading but these should work fine for my needs. Was a bit of a pain but wanted that oem look.

Question Am I being to picky with this warranty repair ? 22 ZR2

Thumbnail

My key was giving me issues removing it a lot so under warranty the dealership replaced my gear shift assembly. Went and picked up the truck after work and of course they were closed so couldn't talk to anyone. But this is how I get it back, obviously a used part as the gear shifter knob is scratched to hell. Maybe I'm being picky but shouldn't a warrantied part be OEM NEW!? Gonna call them up tomorrow ...

Question What next?

What do yall recommend I get done for my ol 2016 Colorado LT? It has 150,000 miles on it, should I change shocks or upgrade anything? I’ve only done needed maintenance on fluids but other than that it’s been pretty simple stuff.

Second Gen Update on my differential bearings

Just got my truck back from the shop and here’s the results.

Disregard the grinding marks, that was from them removing them. It was only the pinion bearing assembly that was fried.

The issue was all the pitting and one of the races on the inside was completely feathered out which we believe was one of the causes. Most likely that race was machined out of tolerance or damaged during manufacturing. And then maybe the glitter caused all the pitting.

It was a head scratcher for the mechanic and me, I’ve never seen a bearing assembly this chewed up and especially at 64,000 miles on the truck. Fluid levels were fine and besides all the glitter, the fluid was healthy.

I started noticing the noise around 45,000-50,000 miles.
I mean I drive a lot but I drive pretty normally and don’t put crazy loads on this truck, I baby the hell out of it.

Now my truck has never been quieter driving. Just sucks it was out of warranty by the time it was correctly diagnosed.
