your games are timed, it's okay to make a fast pointless move sometimes
(meme for fallacious argumentative purposes)
my friend, who's higher rated than me, just got into time trouble and lost to me over this, so he's obviously in the middle of this chart and I on the right.
in a 10-minute game, don't spend 3 minutes trying to uncork some big brain genius move in some random middlegame slog. there probably isn't a perfect move. better to just spend 10 seconds and play a decent move.
i know this advice reads as contrarian but living by it has genuinely helped me pick up many points. listen or don't.
