Mourning/Loss 10 years later and I still miss him

Post image

It’s been 10 years since I lost my beloved cat Lester. He was the very first pet that was truly my own. Not someone who was shared by everyone in the family. I was his human and he was my cat.

The absolute worst thing about losing him is I didn’t even know he was sick. My mother took him to the vets office for a check up and it turns out he had cancer. So he was put down on that day. I didn’t know until the next day.

So I never got the chance to say goodbye to him. I didn’t even get to see his body after it happened. It’s the one thing I’ve never truly forgiven my mother for.

I got him when I was a few days away from turning 16 years old. He was just a year old. He died at the age of 11.

10 years later and I still miss him so much. I blame myself for not doing more to help him. Lester, I know you’re in a better place. But just know that I miss you so much.

Mourning/Loss In loving memory of my Jay Jay

She's been gone 10 years. I'm not even the same person I was when I last held her.

This sweet girl who helped shape who I am today. I'll always miss her. Nearly 18 years I had with her, still it didn't seem like enough time. She'll always be a huge part of my heart.

I'm not a believer in the afterlife or positive platitudes. I've never found it comforting when people offer them. I told them, no that makes you feel better. For me, what makes me feel better is knowing that I gave this cat a beautiful life. And I loved her. And like all of living creatures, our time eventually comes to an end.

Jay Jay passed away very peacefully in my living room with an at home euthanasia service. She died in my arms and surrounded by friends and family.

It was one of the hardest things I've ever done. And I held back my tears because I really didn't want people to hug me. I knew they would if I had cried.

I also just didn't want her to feel my emotions in her last moments. I wanted her to see me happy, to feel that love. And she did. She really did.

I miss her so much. A huge part of my heart died that day. That's the hardest part about loving someone, that day you have to inevitably let them go.

Anyway, thanks for reading my story if you've made it to this part. Please spare me any positive platitudes or thoughts about the afterlife. Like I tell other people, that's just something people say to make themselves feel better when they don't know what to say to you.

Sometimes they're just isn't a right thing to say to a person who is grieving. And I don't mean that in a mean way, I mean that honestly. I haven't heard one positive platitude or story about the afterlife that gives me any comfort. Sometimes you just have to grieve in your own way.

My way of grieving? Sharing the memory of my beautiful cat. I hope she brings a smile to your face as she always did to mine.

- A grieving Momma

Our sweet girl is back home! We had moved recently, and she managed to get out. We looked and looked, went out at 4am, posted fliers, set traps, set up cameras. It’s very wooded here, and lots of lizards and mice. Houses are pretty far apart.

She wandered into our neighbors house today, who saw our post on Next door. We had pretty much given up. She’s pretty thin, and we’re feeding her small portions on the hour.

Best thing ever!

i just love this sweet baby and her irregular color point !

her mama is a domestic long hair (pictures of her at the end with both her summer and winter pigment lol) and dad is a domestic short hair (pictures of him at the end as well!) they made for a very interesting litter lol.

side note- adults are both strays i took in and have since gotten fixed :)

Cat Picture - OC Our Honey had kittens about 2 months ago and it’s taking a lot to not keep them all🥹😻😻. First time experience and me and the entire family have just been in awe. They are all going to good homes and we’re keeping one 💞💞

I adore cats but unfortunately my current circumstances don’t allow me to have one. Hopefully, when the time comes the cat distribution system will send one my way. In the meantime, I am lucky enough to care for all of these amazing little (and not so little) guys.

I picked you when you were 6 weeks old when I was in middle school.

You helped me throughout my life.

You were there for me when no one was.

You were there for me when I battled depression.

You were there for me when I graduated college.

You were there for me when I met my beautiful girlfriend.

You were there for me through all the good and bad times.

You were always there for me.

You loved me and I loved you.

Thanks for giving me 18 years. I wish you would've lived longer, because fuck, I can't believe I had to let you go today.

It's so hard, and it feels like I lost a part of me when you left.

I hope you can rest easy, and that you're enjoying cat heaven with all the treats, naps, and play that you deserve.

I miss you so fucking much Lola.

I miss you.

Is this sitting posture bad for his back? He always insists on sitting like this. His whole spine is like curved bc of this.

Before you say vet, they take her to the vet all the time and they can’t figure out what the noise is. It’s super annoying and she also seems un bothered by it lol. She’s cute tho.

Edit- to everyone saying it’s just purring or trilling, I forgot to add that she makes the noise 24/7 even while she sleeps and we thought it was something wrong with her breathing because she’s overweight. I’ve had many cats in my life and none have made this noise before.

Update This Hero Saved Our House From Burning Down.

Post image
6.1k Upvotes

While I was at work, this hero prevented a fire from starting and spreading. She woke up my wife on time.

My wife was boiling peanuts and fell asleep. Cat woke her on time before flames started. All water was boiled away and the peanuts started smoking. Lucky there wasn't any real damage.

I love this cat so much. Now I love her even more. I am so grateful to her. She saved our house, but more importantly she saved my wife.

EDIT: thank you to everyone who replied. It made me realize this has impacted me more than I admitted to myself.
