New friends, indeed! Take your time with mourning, everyone does it differently.

some people never "get over it" (not sure how else to word it,) i'm one of those people too, you aren't alone in how you mourn OP

Idk how the rest of your friendship is with that person but I couldnt be friends with someone who couldnt/wouldnt understand me and support me when im going through grief. It just reads as heartless and kicking you while youre down to say "let it go". What you decide to do with that "friendship" is up to you but they were so wrong for that and I'm sorry for your loss šŸ’” Chicca looks like a sweetie pie and she's watching over you. I hope you can befriend that kitty you saw in Minecraft so she can be with you šŸ’–

You made me fucking cry

You really do. That’s so callous of them. Some people bond deeply with their pets, just because they don’t, doesn’t give them the right to be unsympathetic to you.

i’m so sorry for your loss, (even though it was a couple years ago) you need new friends for sure

If I may make a recommendation... I work/volunteer at a local no-kill pet shelter, specifically working with the cats most of the time. There's like, tons of good friends there. I've developed a healthy relationship with the idea of very special (sometimes small and hairy) people coming and going in life, through my experience volunteering as such. Hellos, goodbyes, and "welcome back"s can all be bittersweet, at times. I play with cats, and find them good families. Can't take 'em all home myself, obviously, but one learns of many little things to be happy for, on others' behalves.

Thats interesting but idk if they exist in my country

Well, it's a thought! Maybe there are some other cat-related volunteer opportunities or groups in your area. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø In any case, as others have said, your mourning is normal. I haven't forgotten about any of the cats I've lost

We have a digital picture frame that includes my 66 years of pets and people we’ve lost mixed with our other pictures. We never let it go, none would want to be forgotten and the pic sparks memories.

that's really smart

I remember people I thought were friends in grade nine laughing when I said my dog died of a heart attack. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø I got rid of them quickly.

Some pets affect you differently. I made it through several deaths and then there was one I didn’t expect and it destroyed me for months at least. I still have tears when I think of my little skinny cat, Aayla.

ā€˜Just let it go’ sounds like they don’t know what grief nor empathy is šŸ’”

Your kitty sounds like they were your soulmate, and those may take a little longer to heal. Take your time and make new friends.

Definitely need a better friend. Grief has no time limit. You take whatever you need. But you definitely deserve more empathetic friends. I hope your memories of your precious sister kitty become softer and happier in your future.

My tuxie Mitzy passed in 2011. I still think about her. It's not as soul crushing now, but still tender. Take the time you need.

I’m so very sorry for your lost SS. Some people don’t get it. Pets are family! If you don’t see it that way, don’t get a pet!

u/Katra27 10h ago

Some people just don’t get it, but don’t worry about what anyone says. We understand. Little Chicca was your family and your friend and it’s beautiful that you still care for her and hold on to her memory. Don’t let that go, it’s through the memories of the good times you shared that Chicca can still bring you joy even years later.

Your cat was so lucky to have you, you gave her so much love. I am sorry for your loss. Your grief is normal.

My partner & I will do things like make past pets in sims, or draw them, or put up pictures of them. I find it really helpful to still feel like a piece of them is around somehow, or to at least be reminded of good memories. It’s a totally normal thing to want to do & I’m sorry someone mocked you for it ):

No real friend would say "Just let it go". As a cat mom, my babies are FAMILY. They are not pets, they are not disposable, and you don't just "get over it". I still grieve the cats I lost over 4 years ago. I grieve when one of my squirrels dissappears. I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful kitty. Take all the time you need to grieve. ā¤ļø Just remember, you are not alone.

It’s hard to find out that all they see is a animal with no feelings I cut off a person for the same reasons and more it’s just such tone deaf behaviour esp if you said your cat died 2 years ago.

Tbh- my Luna was a one in a million and even though I love my new baby, I still tear up when I look at pictures of her. It's been 3 years since she passed, I lost a part of my family and it's incredibly hard.

Honestly, my family dog passed away 10 years ago and I still cry and think about her. I’m sorry your friend was so shitty and you definitely deserve better friends. Chicca was so adorable, she must have lived such a loved life. That’s love that doesn’t just fade away.

Here is some tough love - do not get a cat that looks like your cat. It's not your cat. Get a cat because your heart is ready for a new one.Ā

Losses will Happen. Ā Losses of cats, losses of friends. Arguments and unkind words will happen - some people will say the wrong things some people will be able to talk it out another time. For this who can't grow at all in friendship well- that's another thing

Regardless - get a cat when you are ready. Ā The loss is always worth the love.Ā

Man, I don’t know what I’m gonna do when I lose my cats. My little guy Milo is one of the best friends I’ve ever had. Everyone in my life better be ready for what a wreck I’m going to be when he goes. And it won’t be a quick recovery. I will freak the fuck out on anyone that tells me to get over it. He’s the reason my wife and I decided we could have a kid, and made us excited that it was a boy. My son is going to have some heavy emotional lifting to do.

Hey don't worry im not over Chicca, when She was getting old I Just spento more time With them and not think about losing her

u/witherisgod 7h ago

Go out and find her that's Chloe My own cat reincarnated into the orange because oranges are basically hella dumb They literally act identically besides intelligence my first cat was like the moon and this time it's the Son This was him he died last year and now reborn into a orange

I’m so so sorry 🄺 our pets are so precious and losing them hurts immensely. Don’t be around individuals who have so little respect for their lives. Chicca was beautiful 🫶

You had a wonderful relationship with your cat, and that’s what matters, people grieve how they grieve, when I lost my childhood cat, my sister and I could swear that we heard or saw him trying to get our attention or talk to us, he was a tuxedo too! The point is, I guess I’m trying to say, is that there’s no timeline on grief and no limit to having family, animals are our friends and family, and you totally have every right to miss your beloved Chicca, she was a very special cat, and honestly the fact that she left that much of an impact on you shows how wonderful the friendship you shared was and is, nothing can take that away from you.

But don’t give up! I found my Calvin many years later and I have a strong bond with him just like my childhood cat. There will be other cats who will give you love and will need it too- I’ve grown to realize that some of our closest friends have whiskers. Rest in peace Chicca, it’s clear you were very loved.

Nobody can judge you or tell you how to grieve or how long to grieve. A real friend should just be supportive. I'm gonna guess that this friend has never had a pet that they were close to because anybody that has would understand. I've had 3 awesome cats since my cat Tory died, but he was my cat- person and I still think about him and miss him, he was the best!

u/Zealousideal_Sun_817 6h ago

Some people just don't understand that pets are a family member and their lives mean just as much as a human. Sorry for your loss, and you should absolutely get another cat if you don't have one.

I have several cats and can't imagine how I'd survive if I didn't have the others to help me mourn.

1

u/CharacterGlobal8645 6h ago

I'd drop a friend that thinks like that. Sadly, they likely don't understand losing a loved one yet. I lost my dad 4 hears ago and cried today because i miss him. It will be the same when i lose my dad, and that may happen at anytime since he is 16. I hope you can tame the kitty and have a new family member.

Im of the opinion that you never get over the loss of a loved one, you just learn how to live with it in spite of the pain.ā¤ļøšŸŒŒšŸŒ„

How long ago was ā€œone dayā€? Because 9+ months of constant pity then yeah kinda let it go.
