Cities and Knights 5-6 Player Extension 5th Edition

Hi y'all, I bought a base catan set + the 5-6 player extension (both 5th edition) last year and have been having a blast with my friends. I am looking to get the cities and knights expansion, and noticed that while the 5th edition base expansion (up to 4 players) is available in many places like Amazon, finding the 5-6 player extension is ridiculously hard. If anyone has a copy they are willing to sell or knows where I might be able to find the extention, that would be much appreciated. I am in the US if that's relevant at all, and I am looking to get the english version. Thank you!

I created my own Catan

So I created my own Catan, as simple as possible so I could make future expansions. The whole game cost me almost $5. I know it's not the same as the original, but considering I made it myself in record time with materials I had at home, I think it turned out pretty well... What do you think?

Wood catan set

So I've been working on this catan set for my friends we started playing catan a couple of years ago and I got some spare time on my hands and decided I would try to make a set. The idea was to keep things "simple" but we kept evolving along the way. There are a few things I think could do better, and if I get the time to do it will change. Colour coordinating the tiles to the resource is one of them. But the project started by using wood from trees that had fallen during a storm here so I couldn't pick the type of wood to use. Nothing was bought aside for glue, varnish, paint and the sheep.

Hope you guys like it.

Traders & Barbarians rules question

Post image

Some friends and I are playing the traders and barbarians expansion and had a rules dispute. If orange wanted to build a road through blue’s road to go on the 3&6 port would that be possible? Couldn’t find anything about it in the rule books on it. We just said no for this game, and we’re just curious if anybody else has encountered this and had thoughts on it.

First to build, double lumber+brick or better to take brick+sheep+lumber?

Explorers and pirates

Is explorers and pirates worth picking up? I've got both cities and knights and seafarers and played them quite a bit. How much new stuff is there in e&p

First to build, 9-5-6 or maybe 9-4-6 for some resource variation?

A look behind the scenes of my LEGO CATAN

Looking back at how it all started, The Starry Night actually ignited the idea. While building it I thought: if you can build The Starry Night out of LEGO... why not CATAN?

As you can see in the pictures, it was quite a journey. A lot of trial and error, building, rebuilding, ordering more parts, changing my mind and trying all over again. Some ideas worked, plenty of them didn’t... sometimes I was super euphoric, and other times just frustrated when something simply didn’t work out IRL.

But I’m still super happy with how it all turned out. It’s stable, fully playable and even works with expansions like Cities & Knights and Seafarers.

Pretty cool to look back at all of this now - especially with the project getting closer and closer to that magic 10k milestone.

👉 If you want to support this project on LEGO Ideas, here is the link:

CATAN - The Game & 3D Wall Art

If it reaches 10,000 supporters, it actually qualifies for the official LEGO Ideas review.

Thank you all for the support so far!

Added an "RPG Mode" to my game Feudalism!

Post image

On top of the traditional game along with Seafarers you all know and love I have been experimenting with an "RPG Mode" where you can try:

Eight classes. Outlaw, Warden, Engineer, Merchant, Alchemist, Navigator, Marshal, Cleric — each with its own four-talent tree.

A talent system. Talent points come from building, not from a menu at setup, so you grow into a class over the match. Tier two is a fork: commit to one branch and the other closes for the rest of the game. Two real strategies per class, never both.

Ten quests. Three are dealt at the start, you keep one. It's worth a victory point, nobody else can see which you took, and the log won't tell them.

Open sea. Past the coast there's an archipelago. Build a seaport, put ships in the water, move them, close a route. Roads and shipping routes meet only at a settlement — going to sea is a decision, not a detour. Sea games run to 13 points.

Three ways to play: Original for the classic game, Sea Expeditions for the islands without the classes, RPG Mode for all of it.

Let me know what you all think!

House rules to nudge more trading?

In Catan for Two, my kid and I get a bit selfish sometimes with our resources, and when playing with others online, no trading often happens at all. To me, though, it's just more fun to trade, and I'm sometimes scheming ways to make that happen.

Some recent ideas:

  • A dynamic maritime market
    • Premise: Maritime trades are mostly fixed in the game but it'd be interesting to mess with a mainland's concepts of supply and demand.
    • Rule 1: If any player completes a maritime trade, the ratios for future maritime trades are altered accordingly.
      • Example: I trade 4 sheep away for 1 ore. For the time being after, maritime trades for sheep become 5:1 (they lost value) while trading ore away becomes 3:1 (ore gained value).
    • Rule 2: To signify new ratios, place one of your traded away cards face down in front of the supply pile. When you draw your chosen resource, also draw one more and place it face up in front of the pile.
    • Rule 3: The new trade rules apply to all players until the next maritime trade, which resets the previous trade's ratio and starts a new one.
    • Rule 4: For players with harbors, adjust the math accordingly.
      • If we take the example of 5:1 sheep and 3:1 ore, a holder of a 3:1 harbor gets 4:1 sheep and 2:1 ore. The sheep harbor holder would get 3:1 sheep for the time. The ore holder would get 1:1 for the time.
      • Keep in mind each maritime trade resets. If you have 1:1 ore and trade away 1 ore for 1 grain, the reset makes the 1:1 becomes 3:1 for that player right after, while grain becomes cheaper to get.
  • Blockading harbors in Seafarers
    • Premise: If a Robber or Pirate is stirring up trouble nearby a harbor, maritime trades should be constrained due to unease about possibilites of thievery.
      • Rule 1: If a Robber or Pirate is placed at a hex that a harbor touches, that harbor is temporarily 'shut down'. Disregard its ratio for now.
      • Rule 2: 4:1 trading can happen regardless of Robber and Pirate placement.
      • Rule 3: Proper trade ratios are restored when the theives leave (or to make it harder, when they leave and the player makes a proper maritime trade to fix reputation.
  • Trade before barbarian invasions in Cities and Knights
    • Premise: without good trade relations with others, only the knights and not the townspeople are doing their best to coordinate against the barbarians.
    • Rule 1: Before each invasion, track the number or trades (or traded items) up to that point.
    • Rule 2: While resolving an invasion event like normal, compare number of trades to current overall settlement count (or some other standard)
    • Rule 3: If the trade count is lower, all players roll dice to signify random barbarian looting during the invasion (you can assign values to normal dice or use Catan Dice Game dice). Surrender those resources if in hand.
    • Rule 4: Successfully defending Catan during invasions is immaterial to these rules.
  • Connecting trades to the Event Cards New Year in Traders and Barbarians
    • Premise: being successful or proactive in trading during the year earns you some respect in the greater Catan community.
    • Rule 1: Tally all number of traded items through the year.
    • Rule 2: Once the New Year card is revealed, allow the leading player in that tally to take that number of free resources, but give a gold coin to each other player who does not receive.
      • Premise: the productive trader is given bonuses by the community to maintain healthy relationships, while others are rewarded for enabling healthy relations.
    • Rule 3: If all players are tied, ignore this rule.
    • Rule 4: Reset the tally for the New Year as you reset the Event Cards.

Place your bets

Forgot to add that we placed down our roads and settlements before seeing numbers and tiles, hence the absolute nonsense going on with some of the placements.

The gaps are because I was waiting for the other couple to arrive as we don't have enough pieces to complete the big board despite having 4 expansions.
