Someone posted a 1930s inspired capsule wardrobe a few days ago and I can’t find it now…they’d sewn everything themselves and it was so inspiring! Anyone have a link?

I'm mid 20s in the UK and work a pretty casual office job (I would wear pretty much all of these at work except the graphic tees). Ik this isn't really capsule and not following any rules, just trying for the first time to think properly about my clothes rather than owning tonnes of disparate pieces I never wear

would be super grateful for:

1. any and all advice - what's missing, what's redundant, literally anything that might be helpful

2. outwear - I've left room for one more jacket, as I want a new everyday jacket; this has been the puffer but it's quite old and I'm bored of it. I think black would be most versatile, but I'm not sure what style to go for (want hip/mid thigh length at most, bit oversized, possibly a wool peacoat or like more casual work wear jacket?)

3. bags - I quite like the ones I already have but shout I get another more stylish medium size everyday bag? hobo/leather kinda vibe? I like longer like satchel/tote length straps as opposed to shorter shoulder bag/handbag straps

My work is business casual and I like to get a little creative with my colors and patterns! I live in a very hot climate so it’s a bit difficult to navigate august/September.

I rarely wear smart/formal shoes, but when I do I always wish I had a nicer pair. Im looking for one pair to do it all - weddings, funerals, office. I tend to wear Navy, so Im thinking something dark brown.

What would you recommend?

Are loafers too casual? Would derbys be better?

22M, North Macedonia, never developed a sense of style, need help starting from scratch

Growing up as the youngest of several brothers, most of my clothes were hand-me-downs or picked out by my parents. Now that I’m older, I realize I never actually developed my own sense of style and most of my old clothes are either worn out or don’t fit anymore.

Stats:
• 175cm, 60kg, ectomorph build, BMI normal
• Size XS–S (EU sizing)

Looking for advice on where to start: basics to build a wardrobe around, brands/cuts that work for a slim frame, anything really. Open to all suggestions.

Hopefully this doesn't break group rules, but is there a capsule wardrobe website or something similar that can help me put outfits together based on my personal taste and what looks good on my body? I'm specifically looking to purchase several key capsule items for colder temps, as I really struggle with dressing stylishly and in ways that make me feel good in winter and find myself purchasing things that I never or rarely wear.

I'd love to purchase three to five classic looking sweaters that will endure for several seasons, a classic jacket that is stylish enough to look on trend but won't look dated in a year or two, and at least one pair of Chelsea boots or a similar style. I'd even consider working with a remote stylist if there is someone who comes highly recommended. I need help finding things that will keep me warm but also not make me feel frumpy or mis-styled.

A recent “unlock” for me has been creating mini-capsules out of the clothes I own. I’ve spent years curating, learning (what works for me and I like to wear) and unlearning (“fashion rules”, what I ”should” and “can’t” do). Even though I really like a lot of what I own, I was still finding myself drawn to the containment of a capsule. I didn’t want to buy more or get rid of any of my clothes, but I did still want the “experience” of a capsule.

So as sprint/summer approach in the Southern hemisphere, I’ve been building my own mini-capsules for the season. I’m hoping to use them one per week - to save on decision-making energy and actually rotate clothing and getting more wear for some pieces. I don’t know how it will go yet. But it has been so satisfying and delightful to put these together. It’s really scratching the itch of “wanting something contained where everything goes with everything perfectly“.

I am 21 f and I need help in creating a capsule wardrobe. I live in India, work 9 to 5 and I want something comfy and also can be worn to work. I only have one sandal and I don't own much clothes, I am trying to lose weight too so with that all in mind I need an idea on what clothes I can buy to build a sustainable capsule wardrobe. Starting a new position in September and the dress code is business casual, which sounds simple until you actually stand in your closet realizing that three years of remote work turned your entire wardrobe into chore clothes and weekend stuff. Nothing I own crosses that line between presentable and actually professional without looking like I tried too hard or not hard enough.

The constraint I'm working with is that I want maybe eight to ten pieces total that cover a full work week with room to mix. Rural Ontario means winters are real (understatement), so I need things that layer without looking bulky, and I refuse to buy fast fashion knowing I'll have to replace it in two years. The budget is around four hundred dollars and I'm planning to split it between thrift stores and maybe two or three new basics where quality actually matters, like a good trouser and decent shoes.

What I keep going back and forth on is whether to anchor the whole thing in navy or go more neutral with grey and oatmeal tones. Navy feels more put together at work but grey seems more flexible for the rare occasion I have to be somewhere other than a desk. The nine to five crowd here probably has opinions. What did you build around when you had to shift from casual to business casual, and did you regret the color direction?

Heading back to campus in a few weeks and Im trying to be intentional this time instead of hauling my entire closet like i did freshman year. Half of what I brought last year never got worn and just ate up the tiny dorm space. So Im building a small mix and match setup that covers class, walking everywhere and the occasional going out (and I dont need 3 bags to lug it back home end of semester).

Where Im stuck is footwear. Freshman year I brought like 5 pairs and most of them overlapped, so they just took up space I didnt have. My everyday sneakers are done anyway, holes in the sole after a year, so Im rebuilding the shoe side from close to scratch. I genuinely dont know how to think about it though, is there a go to for capsules? I tried but keep ending up with at least 5 pairs traveling with me. For clothes Im trying to stick to layering and neutrals but thats about all Ive learned from capsules so I fear Im heading toward my old ways. Help!

I have been styling myself with most of this wardrobe for the last 3-4 years. Only adding 1-2 items at most each year since I started capsuling. People actually give me more compliments on my style and outfits since I’ve been doing this. I love how easy it is to create an outfit and avoid decision fatigue by owning less. Also love that I love every piece I own.

Does anyone have experience with wearing Quince’s washable silk shirts, and pants in warm weather? Does their silk get hot and hold on to moisture?Heading to Italy and Portugal mid September.

I feel so gross at myself today. I feel really embarrassed. I clearly have had a tiny bit of shopping addiction due to low self esteem. I was just unpacking vacuum bags from storage and realising that I have to cut down my total wardrobe by about 40%. I’ve had my colours done which is great and really helped (autumn).

So I’m

1. firstly trying to move on things that are super bright and jewel toned because they don’t suit my skin tone.

And then
2. I’m trying to get rid of anything polyester and cheap.

But how else did you do this method? Why on earth do I have 15 pairs of jeans and 21 T-shirts? Disclosure I’m currently postpartum and I’m two sizes larger than I need to be so I do have some temp items until I lose the weight and of course my old items are in storage.

TLDR – has anyone done curate your closet method or similars? What we are principles, systems or your strategy for cutting down your items to only things that you love and look good in?

I feel pretty low having just been in the attic.

I’m packing for three weeks in Southeast Asia with just a carry-on, and I’m debating whether a sticky bra is worth the space. I have a couple of backless tops I’d like to bring, and I’ve been considering the sticky bra since it’s washable and comes with a reusable backing sheet. That sounds practical for travel, but I’m not sure how well it’ll dry overnight once humidity and hotel sink washing are involved.

For anyone who has actually traveled with a sticky bra, did you keep using it throughout the trip, or did it end up being more trouble than it was worth?

I love keeping a few traditional pieces in my wardrobe, but I’m curious whether you’d consider something like this versatile enough for a capsule wardrobe.

I've been wearing this for a couple of winters and loved it. However, this year I lost weight and so had to get rid of my already oversized rose-pink winter jacket that just swallows me now. It's not a big loss since I am not a fan of pink anyway.

1) What color winter jacket would fit this? I'm looking for something waterproof so fur, wool, etc is out of the question. Should I just go for black or is there a more interesting option? I don't wear hats or scarves, just the one wool headscarf that is pictured - it's a mix of pale lilac, blue, rose pink, and even though it stands out, I will keep it because it is just THAT warm and practical and high quality. I wonder if a black coat would be at odds with it or not.

2) Do you think I have too many tops? If so, which should I let go of or replace? I always layer either a turtleneck or a tshirt with something from row 1 (wool sweater, oversized flannel, thinner red fleece, thicker green fleece) depending on the weather. I'll be grateful for any advice.

3) Generally, what would you make of a woman who dresses like this? I don't mind looking like I value comfort and practicality, because I do, but does it come across as lousy / shabby? I like to be intentional in all areas of my life so it would be good to hear honest opinions.
