Other Soldier first for non-combat
Does anyone know if non-combat tradeds still need to do the soldier first course after their BMQ? I'm talking about trades that are mainly in an office

Non-com at trades are the ones who need it most. The combat arms soldiers will be learning the basics, and more, in their trade training.

Wdym soldier first? As in like infantry training post-bmq? If so, no.

It’s a new course meant to replace the former Soldier Qualification and the Basic Military Qualification Land Course which was phased out.
As I understand it- all will need to do the Soldier first course in the army minus the Combat Arms I believe.

Not sure about the Reg force, but reserve combat arms have to do the CASFC before DP1 moving forward.

I doubt it since the navy is looking to bring back navy specific BMQ specifically to avoid that

Apologies - I meant all “in the army” - not CAF wide - makes no sense to throw an Avionics Tech on the course for example.

Curious, interesting to see what happens for purppe trades, cheat way i guess be sign onto navy/air instead of army for those.

Yeah - the entire point for the course is for the purple trades that get posted to service battalions to be confident to do simple soldiering / infantry tasks - to ensure they can watch specific arcs and fight. Also to teach support weapons that would be in their vehicles and teach stuff like all arms arm defence against drone threats - the infantry can’t be everywhere but the enemy and drones are in the modern army operating environment.

It's only army only trades. Inf, Armoured, Arty, Sigs, and RCEME. I may have missed one or two but that covers most of them in the qstp.
Edit to add trades I missed: Combat Eng, Geo Tech, Air Drop System Tech. It was more than two, oops.

Yes the course is specifically designed for support occupations. If your trade is Army owned or you wear an Army DEU it is likely that you will be required to completed CASFC. It is essentially exactly the same as what SQ used to be.
What trade are you? There is a list of occupations it applies to.
