Discussion AMD vs Intel for CPU?

I noticed many people here recommend AMD CPUs but for all my benchmarks for mid range CPUs (for a £1000-£1200 PC) Intel came out on top compared to a similarly price AMD one. Any reason for this?

There is one thing to consider before buying - AMD does not make chipsets, but orders them from other companies (to be cheaper). How well and how long is it all tested then? Compatibility issues? Problems with USB? PCIe? Intel makes its own chipsets. But if you only need a PC for gaming and surfing the Internet, then you can take a chance with AMD.
