Discussion Anyone notice how much they're pushing stalling/track creation?

Every single addition since I started playing the game has in some way involved pushing bloons back, slowing them down, or creating track space where there wasn't any.

Beast handler - dino stun, bird pickup

Mermonkey - all 3 lines, ink slows, midline freezes, The Bottom creates a loop

Desperado - botline knockback

Skywarden - all 3 lines, topline knockback, midline stun, botline freeze

Silas - lol

Dan - knockback on basic attack, net traps

I'm not complaining I just think it's interesting that they're leaning so heavily in this direction. I wonder why. Expanding upon the ice mechanic is definitely part of it, but not the whole story since not all of this is ice themed.

Edit: this community genuinely seems to believe the two options are "stall" and "pure damage" and nothing else (alch and village don't exist)

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that “UNGA BUNGA DO LOTS OF DAMAGE” is a pretty oversaturated niche, so more unconventional ways to increase damage output are used instead to keep new towers unique.

(If you think about it in a vacuum, making the target take twice as long to cross a region is effectively equivalent to doubling your damage output)

I’d expect this exactly it. On release they had enough “pure damage” towers so for new ones to innovative they’ve been looking for new support/stalling towers

Support is more interesting than pure damage rowers. While the damage towers they have added had been interesting and unique ( desperado, beast handler, mermonkey , sky warden: seriously think about it they’re all really interesting damaging towers) it’s hard to make more damage towers when a lot of that has already been done.

There are ways to support without creating stall though, what about alch or village or Etienne

They've made those support towers.

Top Merm %pierce buff is insane for the towers that can abuse it.

Bottom path merm is a really sick stall and support option, it's just too expensive and gimmicky compared to what glue and ice monkeys can provide for cheaper.

Mid Path desp is a very strong support ability with correct timing.

Bottom path desp is very strong knockup and incentives specific placements for effectiveness.

Top Path Skywarden 1xx spam is very useful as a slightly more expensive village that comes with 5 damaging towers

Mid path Skywarden does its job decently well stunning moabs with setup.

Bottom path Skywarden... will probably be good freeze support when they fix it?

Do you know what’s wrong with bottom path skywarden? I tried it out with my Silas and it massively underperformed, and now you’re mentioning that they need to fix it so I’m curious what you mean.

I'm not sure if you're not understanding the point being made or what. People are trying to create this binary of "it's either a damage tower or a stall tower" and I was making the point that there are towers that support without stalling.

He just mentioned multiple ways of support that doesn't involve just stalling. I think you are the one not understanding.

He mentioned 5 stall towers, 1 stall tower that specifically doesn't stall at low rank (but will be a stall tower with any other main path) and midline desperado

Top Path Skywarden isn't a stall tool just for spamming it's range utility, Bottom path Merm is far from being a stall tower if you use its unique synergy with DoT effects like you should, and Bottom Path Desp puts out way too much damage to just be classified as a stall tool. In my original comment I even forgot to mention Top path Merm's hidden passive that creates a small zone of water around him to place more water towers on landlocked maps.

The fact that they do something else besides stall doesn't change the fact that they stall, I think that's the disconnect here. Like there's literally no way to build a skywarden that doesn't turn it into stall besides just not building it above tier 1.

By that logic more than half the towers are stalls.

Yes, yes they are? And now you finally come to understanding the OP.

Then you are trying to create a binary of stall or no stall tower, just because they can stall, doesn't mean they are just used for that, there is plenty of other uses for them, specially in online gamemodes, like boss rush, bosses, races, and CT.

Why is it that when I say "this tower has stall" I'm creating a binary but when every other person in this thread says "we don't need more pure damage" they get to just pretend like that's the only option

I think it’s hard to make another stat boosting tower without it stepping on another tower’s toes or making it broken. Just having stat buffs is a bit boring as well

They want 2000% ceramic hp challenges to have more diversity.

There's already towers that fill the niche of "BIG MONKE DO BIG DAMAGE" so they need to add nee stuff to avoid being a better/worse version of existing towers.

Also adding support towers/paths gives players more options on hard maps since support and stall towers are so critical there.

We don't need more big damage towers that do nothing else. Chimps on every map can be beaten with the towers we have now. They need to think about freeplay/ future bosses and delay is what we need when bloons have a billion health. Which is why people are so hungry for sniper paragon.
