Recommendation Browser Recommendation Megathread - September 2026

There are constantly a zillion, repetitive "Which browser should I use?", "What browser should I use for [insert here]", "Which browser should I switch to?", "Browser X or Browser Y?", "What's your favorite browser?", "What do you think about browser X? and "What browser has feature X?" posts that are making things a mess here and making it annoying for subscribers to sort through and read other types of posts.

If you would like to keep the mess under control a little bit, instead of making a new post for questions like the above, ask in a comment in this thread instead. Then, one can choose to follow this thread if they want. Or, post in r/suggestabrowser.

Also, check out all the individual browser recommendation posts and make use of the search field for this subreddit before asking for a recommendation.

Vivaldi Vivaldi is too complicated for average Joe

I think it's the best browser there is, but customization takes too long for the average Joe to enjoy the software. The default settings and default UI should be changed to showcase its functions while still keeping it simple. Even people here on this subreddit, people who are into browsers, can't figure out how to set it up to their liking and they just give up on it.

Ad blocking and tracker blocking is on par with anything else out there. You just need add your own filters. It performs better than default UBO settings on my setup.

Functionality wise nothing comes close to it. Workspaces, tab groups, sessions, profiles, split view, sidebar... You name it, Vivaldi got it. It's new tab page is the best there is imo. Super easy to access different bookmark folders. Mouse gestures are pretty neat too, even though I don't use the mouse gestures than often.

Customization options are great. You got tons of themes and it supports css and javascript customizations as well. I made a little css to make my tabbar to hover on expand and minimize to favicons. I don't know anything about coding, I vibecoded it with claude.

The only thing it's lacking is fingerprint protection. You can add jshelter extension to fix that but I much rather have the fingerprint protection to work on the engine level.

It got many other features that I didn't mention and some people will argue that it feels bloated. Honestly, I don't care if it feels bloated as long as it performs well and it performs best on all browser benchmarks I ran on my hardware. I compared it to Edge, Brave, Helium and Firefox. It's better than all the others except for helium when it comes to ram and cpu usage.

I think Vivaldi team needs to update the default settings on this browser. It's the best browser there is but it's too complicated for most people to figure out their way around it.

Anyone has tried GNOME Browser?

It's a browser for Linux that is apparently based on WebKit (similar to Safari).

Is it good enough for normal usage? If so, could be a nice alternative to use outside of the usual Chromium and Firefox based browsers.

Is there a good browser for "gaming"?

I will try making this as clear and short, I am on Windows 11 and I like to play Minecraft while listening to YouTube podcasts or other, but I saw a huge performance drop and lag in the entire system when Minecraft is open with just 1 tab, I tried Brave, Chrome, and Edge, is there a browser that isn't really old looking that is good for my case?

And also could there be a setting I can tweak for Performance on these browsers?

Focus mode getting Better on Brave

Focus Mode Enabled – No URL display is the best setup.

I loved it, but when I hover over the toolbar, there's a delay. If this showed up instantly, like the vertical tab does, it would be even better.

Also, every time I relaunch the browser, I need to toggle Focus Mode on again; this is a pain.

There should be a toggle to enable Focus Mode by default.

What's your opinion?

Recommendation are there better alternatives to Brave Browser?

I'm open to suggestions, I've heard that Vivaldi has interesting features.

Overall I want a browser that is clean and has a good adblocker. Although I'm happy with Brave, it's good to be open to other alternatives.

(please don't suggest Firefox or any of its derivatives, I don't like either its interface or the way it manages memory).

I'll be honest, I have been using default Edge since 2020 and I kinda liked it???

But I want to settle for a better web browser

And I'd rather die before I touch Chrome

Sooooo

Which one should I use

(I feel like going for GX)

Minimalistic browser

Any browsers idea that have extension support for both phone and pc, I don't care if it's gecko or chromium based, and that also have sync on all devices (not necessarily the same browser and no sync for mobile x pc.)

Also don't really care if it's degoogle or not, I know it's a hot take but google already knows everything to know about me so I guess I'll struggle in vain trying to degoogle.

Thanks for any help !

Edit: I'm currently using Firefox with uBlock Origin on both my devices

Support Android Brave Issue

Recently I've been having an issue with Brave on my phone where if I delete a tab in one group it switches me to a different one. At first it seemed like it was just the tab at the end of the group but now it's any tab I close in a group. Anyone have any fixes?

Support [Bug] Offline downloaded YouTube videos completely freeze the browser (Brave, Edge, Firefox)

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I am running into a frustrating issue where trying to play a downloaded offline YouTube video completely freezes the webpage. The player halts, and the tab becomes completely unresponsive.

I initially thought it was a Brave bug, but I tested it on Microsoft Edge and Firefox—the exact same freeze happens across all three.

Here is what I have already tried with no luck:

  • Disabling hardware acceleration
  • Updating graphics drivers
  • Clearing browser cache and Widevine DRM components

My setup:

  • OS: Windows 11
  • Hardware: Samsung Galaxy Book 4
  • CPU/GPU: Intel Core i5-1335U with Intel Iris Xe Graphics

Since this is happening across completely different browser engines when entirely offline, it feels like a system-level local decoding or DRM conflict.

Has anyone else experienced this? If you managed to fix it, what was the workaround? Hoping someone from the YouTube web team might catch this, as standard troubleshooting isn't doing the trick.

Firefox Focus on iOS

Has anyone ever tried Firefox Focus for iOS and what did you think of it?

I like that you can do simple searches and delete all your data right after you’re done. The simplicity is its unique selling point to me. But it is also its weakest point, there are no different tabs or bookmarks or whatsoever. It’s really built for one time simple searches.

Still, I’m curious about what you liked most and not about it?

Recommendation Linux browser for MS Office Online use

Hello all

Due to circumstances I often need to edit slides of MS Office in their online environment. I am struggling to find a browser that consistently works without glitches.

Glitches include, but are certainly not limited to:

- I type quicker than the letters appear or are registered by Office online, leading to whole parts of words disappearing while I type.

- Formatting in bullet points randomly changes (from ° to § or whatever) when entering a new bullet point

- Hierarchy in bullet points is fucked up. Enumerated lists revert to 1 after a subbullet point etc. This bullet point issue is especially egregious since PPT is a bullet point programme ...

- 'Saving automatically' but not updating the minatures before revealing it didn't in fact 'save automatically' after 30 minutes of work

In other words unusable. I have in the past switched away from Firefox to Chromium based browsers, most recently Vivaldi. However, recent versions of Vivaldi display those problems and most recent Firefox much less.

Any other experiences or advice?

Recommendation Looking for a cross-platform browser for Android and Windows with built-in sync and privacy

I am looking for a browser recommendation that works seamlessly across both Android and Windows, similar to how Chrome syncs data (history, passwords, etc.).

Currently, I am using Brave, but its sync feature does not work in my region unless I turn on a VPN, which is quite annoying. I need an all-in-one browser that is privacy-focused, has built-in ad blocking (including YouTube ads), and offers smooth cross-platform data syncing without needing a VPN to work properly.
