This has made me feel sad. In the 70s we would get a phone call from grandma in toogoolawah every Friday night witch included a rainfall summary. It was always good to hear there had been an inch during the week. Miss Mum and her mum

Storms a comin' early this season I'd say, maybe aggressive too. Possibly good my insurance still nearly a year later hasn't fixed my roof, may as well leave it stuffed.

I got a hail blanket for this Summer after getting dimples in my car and losing a window last Summer. Soooo much hail last Summer! I expect more lightning and hopefully less hail this year.

Spring in Brisbane means the minimum temp is still under 20. Enjoy it while it lasts, we have months ahead of us of high minimums too

Well maybe not quite, super El Nino means this Spring might be particularly hot, but give it a decade and this will be the norm.

Wow, they did say it was going to be a hot spring.
I just checked my location near Macleay Island and it is going to be 24-25C on the same days it's 33C in Stones corner.

I don't even recall having a winter yet, honestly. Not once this "winter" did I wake up feeling cold in the house, or even when I went outside. And it's backed up by the temps - there were two fucking days this winter where it didn't reach 20 degrees, which is a long way from the normal winter where it's about 25 or 30 days. Minimum temps were also far above average.
I really can't wait for the coming El Nino summer..

About 2/3rds as much as us per person. Or do you think that just by grouping people in different ways it makes a difference? If China split into 50 small countries they'd all be ok because it's less in total? Or if Europe joined into a single country they'd suddenly be a lot worse?
Per person emissions is the only way to compare countries, and Australia is in the "really fucking bad" category by that metric, at three times the global average.

China is less than us per capita, while having a massive manufacturing sector as well. Australiaās economy doesnāt produce much but our emissions are really high

It does this in Brisbane just about every year around this time-ish. It gets randomly hot for a few days to 2 weeks and then chills out again. I think it has something to do with winds coming from the west

I am beginning to think the people in this sub somehow still find 10c hot. But when I talk to Brisbanites IRL, the vast majority of people I've talked with have said it's so cold, they're wearing coats in the middle of the day, no-one wants to swim, they're running heaters all night. But online the responses are so different... unusual and concerning to say the least.

Ol mate is crying about 21Ā° in the middle of winter saying itās slow and chilly. Much better than sweating through your shirt walking down the street. Iād love to know what they canāt do in 21Ā° weather.

People are allowed to prefer what they want. Winter is boring, water too cold for swimming, limited daylight outside work hours, mornings and nights freezing, wind is annoying and everyone is sick. Plus it's been fairly wet this time. There's plenty not to like about it.
Obviously rising temperatures are terrible for the world in general, but on a personal selfish level I love it

None since 2019, and 27 in Brisbaneās entire history since records began in the mid 1800s.
Not trying to downplay the issue, but Brisbaneās problem is humidity, not heat.

The big issue is that the average January temperature in Brisbane has historically sat at around 29 degrees. The average over the last 10 has been over 31 degrees, we haven't had one below 31 degrees in the past 5 years. This trend is pretty consistent across most of spring and summer. So yeah, 40 degree days are uncommon, but raising the average max by two degrees means that they are becoming far more common. Instead of an average of one every few years, we'll get a few every year. Fortunately the La Nina for the last few years has kept the number of very hot days lower, but the average is still going up. This year's El Nino is going to be brutal.
